Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Yes, but that's a completely insincere description of it, so that's hardly fair. I watched the Hajimete no Gal dub and didn't find anything wrong with the scene in question at all. It's debatable if it's a problem in that specific case, but in a general sense you could definitely do what they did with that HnG scene to get the point across. I think this discussion has been had in this thread a few times now, but there's a wide range of what goes into localization and what is acceptable 'localization'. In the end it boils down to 'did it make the audience react the way the audience was supposed to, and did they understand what they were supposed to understand'.
You don’t find anything wrong with inserting a reference to “Make America Great Again”? Because that’s another thing they did to that show.

I just thought of something:
How many conventions have Vic Mignogna and Scott McNeil been guests together at?
I wonder if this includes the one @MarzGurl attended?

Shared conventions listed:
2004:
Anime Central 2004 - May 14-16, 2004 in Rosemont, IL
Oni-Con 2004 - October 22-24, 2004 in Houston, TX
OtakuCon Miami Beach 2004 - December 17-19, 2004 in Miami, FL

2005:
Ohayocon 2005 - January 14-16, 2005 in Columbus, OH
Kunicon St. Louis 2005 - March 4-6, 2005 in St. Louis, MO
Anime North 2005 - May 27-29, 2005 in Toronto, ON, Canada
Otakon 2005 - August 19-21, 2005 in Baltimore, MD

2007:
Metrocon 2007 - July 6-8, 2007 in Tampa, FL
Oni-Con 2007 - October 19-21, 2007 in Houston, TX

2014:
Anime Weekend Atlanta 2014 - September 26-28, 2014 in Atlanta, GA

2015:
Anime Blues Con 2015 - July 10-12, 2015 in Memphis, TN

Metrocon 2017 - August 3-6, 2017 in Tampa, FL

2019:
Kameha Con 2019 - April 12-14, 2019 in Irving, TX

And that is not taking into account smaller conventions not listed.

Only non-diabolical reason I can think of is that Glass might not like being reminded of her birthday (which would be kind of weird, because she's not that old).
You guys are kinda being autistic about this. I don't like a lot of birthday attention on myself, maybe she doesnt put her birthday out there to Funimation. I admit tho, no coworkers wishing her happy birthday is kinda weird. Is her birthday public on social media?

Haha, I was mostly just speculating. Kind of a moot point anyway, since Funimation did tweet out a "happy birthday" message eventually.

Okay so I asked a friend of mine who's been doing cons for 20+ years about Scott and Vic and his experiences specifically w/ Scott.

Apparently Scott got bit at NDK 2002 and that's why he didn't come back until 2015. Otherwise generally he said his experience with Scott was if he wasn't doing a panel or signing or hanging with fans he was at the hotel bar.

Okay now that was actually hard to tell until i read the post.

Honest to god what I am hoping will happen is that some of the KVers that genuinely thought they saw vic do what it was scott doing will actually think for themselves and maybe realize they might have been mistaken. Optimistic I know but maybe some of the ones not too deep in will see it now.
It actually lines up with what @Nontransferable and @Bender were trying to figure out about Armzgurls drunken elevator ride with "Vic". From what I'm seeing, the vast majority of the conventions that Vic appeard at in Houston as she claims it happened at also hosted Scott McNeil as a guest.
Edit: Cougar'd hardcore

So, I saw this on twitter:

Didn't think it was real at first, so I scrolled through Funimation's FB myself, found it and took this screenshot. It is real. Funimation associated with Momokun on their official FB page.

This post is from October 2017. I'm not sure when the whole Momokun debacle happened. (for those of you who don't know: Momokun is a fat cosplayer who went through a convention actually grabbing guys' asses without their consent, filming it in the process. She later blamed it on her ADHD.) Even if the debacle happened after this was posted on their FB, that doesn't excuse them leaving it up. They remove Vic from credits, remove interviews with him from DVD's, basically trying to unperson him and erase him completely from their history, but leave this post up. There's no evidence regarding Vic's supposed harassing behavior, but there's clear evidence when it comes to Momokun.

I suppose harassment only bothers Funimation when it happens to women.

We don't condone harassment of any kind (unless it's directed toawrds men.)
uh, moomookun. Beetus Asuka.

So, it turns out that Vic's team asks for a continuance of the hearing. I guess their team needs more time to prepare for the hardcore sperging that will come from that hearing?

Ha! The glasses belong to a fan - the one he took a pic with while wearing them. It's a thing he does for fun interactions.
You know I like pictures of Vic's wardrobe as much as I like the pictures of the lines he still gets. It's like "what fabulous thing will be on display this time: the pants, shirt, or perhaps both?"

Do be sure to let him know that he, and his clothing, are genuinely loved.
