Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

How in the fuck is Rey, Palpatine's granddaughter?
Because JarJar likely wanted people to do something dumb like this, but then Ruin decided to live up to his name and snip all the frayed threads he leaves in his plot-hole riddled sweater of a film. This is him forcibly having to finish it while still listening to what Roundhead did with the minimal level of acknowledgement.

Yaaaah, not sure I can blame JJ here. His mystery box idea does work on a basic level, answer the questions necessary to make the first film work, then answer those questions as the series goes on to provide audience incentive to invest their minds in it.

While I disagree with how much Abrams uses it, it does work if you know you have films after the one you set up your box in.

The problem here is that Johnson just ENDED it all. Johnson left absolutely nothing to work off of, he left no plot points that can be reasonably answered. Abrams is left with the fact he somehow has to make a third film in a series that by all means should have ended at two. That leaves no room for setup, no room for growth, just... nothing. He has to create a final antagonist, a compelling conflict, a climactic resolution, and all of this has to be done in a single film.

* Previous leaks mostly confirmed by alleged Test Screeners. Sith Dagger is a major MacGuffin and leads to C3PO being deleted to translate.
* Rey uses force lightning at some point. Because of course she does.
* Final line in the movie: "Rey Skywalker."
* The entire film is an even bigger disjointed mess now with at least 3 major reshoots and almost a dozen alternate scenes filmed, then pieced back together without coherence.
* The destruction of the Millenium Falcon is, purportedly, removed.
* Kylo supposedly runs into Palps early into the movie and he's been quietly gathering power in the fringe for years. Nothing is explained.
* Movie "worse than The Last Jedi" according to the pre-screenings.
* This movie is going to be a fucking dumpster fire.

The sheer amount of handwaving is astounding. They expect you, the audience, to just BELIEVE and it'll be OK. Don't question, OBEY AND ENJOY! This is seriously some TLJ level shit where Roundhead wove together set pieces and said "Well I guess I can make a story here somehow." and JJ said "hold my beer bro.."

Borderlands has a more cohesive plot than ROTS

Calling bullshit on that. There's MASSIVE amount to work from if you are creative enough, clever enough, and willing to drown in hookers, cocaine, and bourbon for a weekend you can write your way out of ANYTHING with a canvas as big as a fucking galaxy. JJ was lazy, took the cheap lens flare option and shitfisted his way out of this pickle. Any of us here could've written better with less and we have.

Johnson fucked the pooch with dildo the size of a tonton, JJ petted the lil fella, threw him in a woodchipper, and said "I made a thing! LENS FLARE!"

How in the fuck is Rey, Palpatine's granddaughter?

Palpy got the money through politics, then he got the power through all the scheming he pulled to overthrow the Republic, and once he was in charge, he got the bitches!

Seriously speaking though, Rey being Palpatine's granddaughter is the least objectionable thing here. That was one of the theories being thrown around way back when TFA was released and it could work...if they had continued the story in a way that would have played with the idea of Rey being an Anti-Christ like figure in the eyes of many or some shit.

But no, this is just JJ and Lucasfilm cleaning up Rian Johnson's "They were nobodies!" reveal...and to be (kinda) fair to RJ, they let him do it. If they had a solid plan in place to begin with, they would have told him what it was from the start instead of giving him free range to blow it all up.

To quote TFA "A good question - for another time."

lalalalalalalalala... And it will either never be explained, or will be explained four years from now in a twelve part comic book series nobody reads.

To me, this feels like he is effectively trying to make the second film of what he had planned, while cramming it into the third film he actually has to make.

It's like a company of aliens trying to understand human culture.
Honestly...In comparison to you or me they kind of are.
What truly human experiences have the gaggle of overly privileged limousine liberals who vomit this garbage out had in their lives?
It explains why they're absolutely baffled when empty Girl Power tripe is utterly hated by the general public and not viewed as uplifting and empowering and shit.
It explains why good and relatable storytelling and character moments are apparently impossible to get right.
Putting aside all the greed and awful ideology, people in Hollywood really need to get some life experience.
it would help a lot in improving their output.

Or watch the Alien(s) movies for how you do a badass woman in a movie.

Spoken like a nigga who never watched Lost.
JJ doesn't care Ruin killed all his plot points and smashed all his mystery boxes, because he had no idea how to deliver on them and would have fucked it up. Now he doesn't, so he gets to just make a bunch more mystery boxes for other creators to deal with.

Again, you assume JJ had any plan to execute on his mystery boxes, or that if he did it wouldn't be complete shit. History says no. He likely was hoping that he's set up his mystery boxes, and over the course of two movies other people with actual talent would come up with how to execute on them. He then gets all the praise for the MASTERFUL SET UP with none of the work that he's proven himself unable perform.

He likely left very vague notes, and then Ruin johnson subverted his expectations by deciding that naw, he wanted to go his on r-tarded path.

Is it sad to think that it doesn't matter whether it's sad or not to think the outside media (including films) are just going to be better than the trilogy at this point?

I just wish I still had a machine that could run the KOTOR games. I've been jonesing for a run-through ever since the first 20 minutes of Last Jedi.
