KingK did a recent retrospective on Gen 1 and he pretty much covered what Pokemon did to take off in the opening of his review- the Game Boy had a large market, it came at a good time, was marketed very well and they basically sold the game twice through Red-Blue.

So Jeff released a video in November that was pretty much ignored, so I thought I would contribute and bring it up. The video in question is about a relatively new anime called No Guns Life, which stars a detective with a gun for a head in a setting similar to Blade Runner from my understanding. In the video Jeff tries REALLY HARD to project communist ideas, specifically the idea of late stage capitalism, a Marxist term, which I find very ironic considering he runs a channel about fucking anime.

Jeff doesn't understand that corporations lobby the government to create policies, which range from subsidies to protective regulations, which in turn create barriers for new competitors, effectively killing most competition and funneling wealth up the rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. It is not capitalism per se that has funneled the wealth to the top, but the state and its regressive regulations.

The bottom line is that Guns No Life is just like any other cyberpunk world. Jeff is retarded if he thinks the issue is fundamentally economic and not socially rooted. Shortsighted consumerist retards like Jeff is exactly why it seems like we are moving towards that kind of future IRL.
