Bioshock falls under Razors list of "Its an inferior copy to something i like so I will act disinterested in it while also shitting on it"

He also claims System Shock 2 is overrated because it's got more RPG elements than the original. Which Bioshock is a spiritual successor too (also the SS2 spergs that bitch about Bioshock are seriously annoying and pretentious as fuck, and I prefer SS2 to Bioshock myself).

I personally think comparing Bioshock to System Shock instead of judging it based on its own attributes is kind of unfair. But that’s just my opinion. Back to the topic, what do you guys think about his hate boner for anime? Is it justified?

Razorfist's hate of anime stems from multiple different sources: First its more accurate to say he has a hate boner for all east asian media. He accuses multiple manga, anime, etc. of ripping off western media. Notably he called Beserk an Elric ripoff and GITS a blade runner ripoff. He also lives in denial that many Hollywood films are inspired by Akira Kurosawa. The Magnificent 7 and A Fistful of Dollars are western takes on Kurosawa's 7 Samurai and Yojimbo, this can be confirmed easily on the internet, yet Razor believes the former is horseshit and retorts to Fistful being a western Yojimbo by saying "Well Yojimbo ripped off a film noir so i don't care." Razorfists is a pundit for western superiority and he should be called out on it.
2. Razor is a contrarian. Anime has been popular in the west since the Internet's inception into daily life. not to mention bash modern anime for using computer animation

3. Razorfist wants everyone to believe that hes an alpha male chad badass, despite the fact hes spent over 10 years yelling on the internet about video games. The western anime fandoms has its moments of never ending cringe and often gets associated with very unsavory groups, therefore Razor can act like hes superior to such a bet subject.

4. Razorfist doesn't understand what pacing is. Apparently spending your life listening to nothing but loud heavy metal reduces your attention span to that of a goldfish. Razorfist bashes everything with slow pacing because he thinks only Noir and Silent Hill are suppose to be slow. He also throws this criticism at modern movies because he thinks being longer than 90 minutes is a problem. Anime naturally is drawn out and has slow moments thus draws his ire.

His hate for it is not jusstified and is why he'll just write it off as not worth his time, because Razorfist can't argue against it.

The whole obsession with originality and things being a "rip off" sounds like a bunch of artificial bullshit to make himself look cool and intellectual. Possibly quite insecure because he dresses like a 13 year old boy into metal when he's nearing his 40s now. Also if he is really ADD with how he can't stand slow stories that's just odd since I thought he liked RDR 2, which is super slow paced. Sounds like he's just got a badly thought out opinion so he defaults to "It's slow/it's a rip off of something".

I've said this before and others have but I think he has to have Bipolar disorder with how his opinions fluctuate all the time. His attitude at certain times seems to imply this (how he sorta sounds cool and likeable and then sounds spiteful and angry at random, with a hint of irrationality.)

In his most recent live stream, he kept referring to Eve as “my girl.” Never said her name, kept saying “my girl.” This would imply they’re still in a relationship, but it could also be a flex

There’s plenty to haha with anime, and a lot of it can definitely justified, but I don’t think that’s the case with Razor. He has claimed many a time to be fluent in Japanese after studying it in high school and college(no proof or test has been given). And he also has a hard on for Ronin Warriors of all things, proving his taste in anime is beyond shit. Now this could imply that he’s an old school weeb who is just hating on the modern weebs(ive met many old weebs irl who swear by vampire princes miyu and Fist of the North Star over everything else). He could also just be doing it as a diversion. He name drops random shit like Burst Angel And Bubble Gum Crisis on the fly, which would mean he went out of his way to watch Burst Angel. So maybe he is just a weeb and is pretending to hate anime to hide that fact? His only criticism of Evangelion was “its pedophilic and shit.” Neither are arguments for quality.

It’s been an ongoing trend that the man can’t distinguish between inspiration, homage, and plagiarism. You can borrow elements from something you love and have it not be a direct rip off. Magnificent 7 and Seven Samurai is a great example. Magnificent 7 definitely borrowed heavily, but it’s still very much it’s own movie. He’s also over stating the popularity of things like Elric and Blade Runner, which are not as big as he thinks they were, even if the nerds like us are aware of them.

Razor doesn't seem to know the difference between something taking inspiration from something else vs something being a blatant ripoff.

Take his constant "this thing rips off Blade Runner" mentality. Blade Runner is one of the pioneers of the cyberpunk genre, it's one of the movies that invented the cyberpunk aesthetic. It's a very striking movie visually, so of course people will get inspired to make something similar. That's where movies like Ghost in the Shell come in because Ghost in the Shell takes inspiration from Blade Runner to make something totally unique. Now I haven't seen Ghost in the Shell but I do know it has story elements and technology that you don't see in Blade Runner. But to Razor, it's ripping off something he likes and therefore it sucks.

It's an utterly unhealthy position to take because it prevents him from enjoying things that are somewhat similar to things he already likes.

You know, I just finished saying this almost 2 hours before your post. It wouldn’t hurt to read the thread before replying

>Evangelion Pedophilic

What? I mean the characters don't look like Lolicons is it because Asuka and Rei are sexualized is that his argument?

speaking of which, has the dude said anything about the recent autism coming from Gab regarding porn?

He did not elaborate. It was during a mechwarrior 4 stream and someone superchatted what he thought of it.

no word on gab

Agreed, a way I would describe how dumb the mentality is - Mozart's 40th symphony isn't bad because Haydn wrote similar ones before. If anything it contextualises why it is good. Nor is Shakespeare bad because Marlowe came first.

It's also bizarre that he likes metal, a genre that exists to be stagnant, derivative, and formulaic of the 'pioneer' bands.

No no, remember, consistent is good. It’s experimentation that’s bad. He criticizes albums and acts that shy too far away from a similar sound in his mythos series all the time while less interesting albums are perfect because they sound the same from song to song

Hmm...rigid taste in things.
Sounds like autism to me folks.

I don’t think he’s autistic. If he is, it’s extremely mild. I just think he’s a hipster contrarian with outlandish insecurity issues the likes unseen outside the “games are or are not art” debate

Can you really brag about her being 'your girl' when everyone is getting whatever they want from her for the right price?

His strained commitment to that shock jock persona can't be helping either. If you're a shock jock then subtlety can only act as a stumbling block for pushing simple, bold positions. You have to have the same kind of detached confidence regardless what the topic is, and since his tastes have ended up being a big part of his whole thing, he has to treat them the same as any other opinion he puts out there. If he ever lets himself genuinely enjoy a single piece of Japanese cinema for the work it is, his strong prior position gains an asterisk, and it becomes harder to bark out the same opinion the way he did before. Easier to just keep things as is.

But then again, is any of that mutually exclusive from autism? No.

So basically he wants to keep being a shallow and overly consistent person? Makes sense as he wants to keep his persona consistent to a fault.

He's stated the anime and manga he's into, and its all thoroughly things from the 80s and 90s, like Akira, or Dark Fantasy like Claymore and Berserk. it seems to be newer anime that he has the hate on for.

Burst Angel wasn't even good even for it's time.

I mean there's so much better stuff within the same time period like Dai-Guard, Escaflowne, and even stuff like Godannar. There's also the original Code Geass and TTGL.

Bubblegum Crisis atleast the original OAV goes is really rough, the series that came after refined what the OAV started. But Megazone 23 stands way above Bubblegum Crisis if you're going for a Cyberpunk type series.

He also has never mentioned Nadia(and outside of The Island story arc in the series) it's probably one of the best long series that Gainax put out because it didn't take a quality dive like Evangelion.
