I skimmed through the new Youtube harassment policy that went into effect today. I think it will definitely impact the haydur community. What do you think?

YouTube really needs to update their policies to remove trash from their platform. Sorry but a 600 pound land whale pointing at shit with her brown beetus sausages and using the same 3 words to describe things is not exactly primo content for advertisers.
Instead they want to go after the people calling out the trainwrecks who provide 10x more entertainment than the land whale. (some exceptions I know)

What a time to be alive.

I understood it to be geared more towards attacks based on gender, race and sexuality. Apparently this stems from journalist Carlos Maza being called things like “lispy queer” and “gay Mexican” by another YouTuber. So people put pressure on the company for not doing anything about it.

I’m not sure what the equivalent comments against a fatty would be to warrant calling it harassment, or if YouTube has even established that yet. A reaction channel like Charlie Gold could just label it a “mental and physical health discussion.” Until an army of fat “creators” start coming out with stories and get support, I don’t think they’ll do anything. We’ll have to see. Wait till Chantal gets wind of this!

I think the channels that make varied content will be fine. Actually I think all their channels will be fine. I mean it does seem like their content does fall under violating these new guidelines somewhat. At first glance there's an emphasis on things like targeted threats and hate speech but...
Beyond threatening someone, there is also demeaning language that goes too far...We will no longer allow content that maliciously insults someone based on protected attributes such as their race, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

is where the haydur channels (mostly) fall under this umbrella. While I don't think peppering in a few crocodile tears or "it's because she's a horrible person" is going to balance against 1) the overall tone of the content and 2) the sheer volume of the content... it's still a bit of a stretch to say the haydur channels violate the policies, but they still do, if that makes sense. Like it's not unfathomable but I don't think this is who youtube means with this policy.

Very often new policies get blown out of proportion and don't affect as many people, or not to the degree that we first assume. Maybe worst case scenario is a hit to their pay because their channels will get low-tier ads instead. I would be very surprised if any of them got their channel taken down.

the implication that some of them have a life or interests outside of ALR is heartwarming. Or the use of the word "lately" like this outrage is a new and recent thing. As if their emotional investment in ALR isn't a product of the state of their lives and not the other way around. I love the energy of all that. I bet that person crochets tiny hats for homeless kittens. Bless them.

for sure. that and her mental illness. it's just a bit of a harder sell than let's say, Crowder's "lispy queer" videos...which I believe is what sparked these changes to begin with.

we're really just going to have to wait and see if this policy touches them. It technically should, but that doesn't mean it absolutely would, is all I'm saying.
