I'm waiting for any kind of proof that even "legitimate" diagnosed DID cases actually have alters/systems in the way these people describe that weren't suggested and created by their shrinks. This whole thing reeks of the satanic panic false memory scandal all over again.

There's a lot of information in the Finders thread about how the people involved in pushing the false memory theory during the McMartin case were funded by the US government to spread misinformation and cover up that McMartin, Franklin and the Finders were all government gay ops. Satanic panic was government gay ops too so that people wouldn't believe any of the whistle blowers at the time. I've posted Paul Bonacci's depositions here before and I legitimately think he does have DID but then again he was was kidnapped and abused for most of his life so he fits the criteria for trauma induced DID.

They don't have alters like its shown in any of these things. And the real way to treat it is to not go "oh Patty nice to see you wheres good ol'Jim today?" It's to treat them as one person and not give power to their ideas. They also don't magically become another person when asked to either....

Honestly you dont see the ones that act like these people unless they for one came from a therapist who pushed the notion of multiple idenities on them, or they saw what the media says they should be. For the most part yes they do react differently at times (like EVERYONE does in diferent situations) and they do have memory loss of events and react as someone with PTSD does. The important thing is not to let them live and act out that memory, but to orient them back into the current time.

I don't think I've ever seen a DID case I'd call legitimate. With the caveat that I don't work in psych.

As far as I know, the typical route for severe childhood trauma is BPD + PTSD rather than inventing alters at the urging of a psychologist.

At first I was thinking the same thing...but then it was minute 6 out of 25+ minutes and it started to feel like I was watching munchie masturbation. I mean, I would understand a five minute awareness video, but does she really think her medical problems are going be entertaining for ten minutes, never mind almost a half hour? Maybe her challenges are/were related to her psych disabilities, but she’s not going make any progress towards change with that level of verbal diarrhea.

She has schizophrenia and is on antipsychotics, wonder if that is contributing to the the "bizarre front" you see?

Apparently she asked for swabs to be taken several times and was refused....

I actually enjoyed her story and wondered if her psych dx contributed to the dismissal of her original symptoms?

I worked in a community based geriatric psych unit in the mid 90s when we were pulling some of the last out of state institutions. We had one with what they called multiple personality disorder back then. She lasted less then a week before she was sent back. I never worked directly with her but I can say no one else failed that quickly. Of the handful of cases we sent back to more restrictive care it typically took months.

She's only shared pictures of her father and brother -- no sign of the mom anywhere, but she was involved in the past.

Ever since she started claiming massive weight loss, she's been holding her arms out at weird angles to try and emphasize her fragile widdle girl status. She likes to show off her muscle wastage as if it's a sign of her impending death. Yeah sitting in a hospital bed doing nothing for a year and a half and pretending your legs don't work will melt your muscles, imagine that. When she actually shows body shots she's often kind of dumpy around the middle.

I mean I'm sure she's also starving herself right now (although also sure that when she's not being observed she eats just fine). Hell, maybe she'll step her game up, stop drinking liquids, keep "accidentally" puking up her tube and fucking with her PICC when they try to save her, and I'll win the death pool.

I was poking through this thread after looking at the “Are They Dead Yet?” thread and I’m just mind blown, what fucking doctor is giving full spinal fusions to munchies?! And why?! And why would you fuse someone into a position where their spine is still curved to that degree? I know they will still correct to whatever degree they can if you are at risk of being crippled, but the angle they fused her spine at is fucking ridiculous. Maybe I’m MOTI now.

When you have scoliosis and need corrective surgery, they will begin by taking as many xrays as possible if you in contorted positions specifically so they can measure the degree of movement that they estimate they can adjust your spine. If you aren’t horribly off they may refer you to some physical therapy to try to stretch the muscles so they can get a better degree of movement, but they usually won’t rush something like that unless you are progressively worsening and they don’t want to lose mobility.

the munchie said they called her X-ray “unremarkable” as though that meant anything other than that her surgery went perfectly, so clearly the surgeon was skilled even if they significantly depleted the quality of life of an idiot.

edit: then again they are totally cool with brain surgery so maybe I’m the idiot for thinking there would be a boundary they wouldn’t cross.

edit2: the fact that she is “unremarkable” means that even if she legitimately injured her back again, they won’t operate on her. If she had an excellent first surgery, even if she had some kind of injury where she needed to go back under the knife again, no doctor will touch her. Kind of for the same reason no one will operate on troons again after they have failed SRS. That was a one time trick she’ll never get to play again
