Also, losing a kid can really do some damage to your mental state. Unlike Onion and Lamey, Shiloh strikes me as someone that would actually give a shit about her child, so of course losing said child would make things worse.

After what he put her through even post breakup it makes some sort of sense. She lost her lucrative career and all self esteem and sense of self. It took her nearly 10 years to get to this strong, confident woman she is now. That alone should tell you how insidious and abusive he is.

For those talking about motels, when you hit some of the rural areas (west of Gig Harbor is considered rural), you aren’t going to find hourly or even half-day motels anywhere outside of Seattle. That being said, it’s entirely possible he is actually staying at a weekly rate, many of the motels are used as temporary residencies in this way up until Spring when they switch back to daily rates. Also done because of WA’s current dire lack of (affordable) housing.

e: about ten pages back there’s discussion on divorce in Washington too. Not as hard as you might think, much easier if you have been separated. In fact you don’t usually need court at all to divorce if you have been separated a certain period of time (6 mo I believe) and it’s in the bag if you aren’t going for any assets in the divorce. Obviously this doesn’t apply to Kai, custody of the children means auto going to court, but if she moved back with her family and had proof she wasn’t with him for a certain period of time divorce would actually not be very difficult at all.

edit2: weekly motel rates are for one or two weeks and run between $400-$600 on average. If he was telling the truth (doubtful) then that $200 for the motel could be for the night...or that’s the weekly rate
