Diabetic neuropathy - Symptoms and causes
www.mayoclinic.org
For the life of me I could not understand how AL could have an infected toe for so many weeks without feeling it and not noticing until it spread from her pinkie toe, over her foot, then high enough above her cankle roll so that she could SEE that it was red. Cellulitis is painful. Any infection is painful. If the cellulitis started in her toe, her toe would have been painful. Unless, her diabetes destroyed her nerves.
Diabetic neuropathy causes pain and numbness at first, eventually they lose sensation. She didn't realize she was cooking a festering infection of death that was almost septic because she can't feel. Probably why she's falling so often as well. That could be what her layg pains have been all this time. They stopped because her nerves died. Most of her care is courtesy the ER. They don't test for diabetes and I seriously doubt she ever fasted before any ER blood work.
That insulin resistance must be full blown beetus at this point. If she is losing weight as she claims, it's probably due to her pancreas packing up and moving out and her raging uncontrolled blood sugar her body isn't storing as fat. Since that's what insulin does.
Give her a bottle of booze, something to bite and go full walking dead old school style amputation??
