You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

student portal
Call me a Luddite, but I don't like doing any school online. Even if just relying on a portal for announcements or submitting assignments. All online classes are much worse though. When I took one, I somehow missed major things, and I didn't really learn anything from it. Now I can't even recall the subject.

Meh, I had an online class last summer and it was fucking awesome. Easiest A ever, and I can actually recall a decent amount of the material despite being a gen ed.

People that does something shitty, and get offended when you call them out for that. Look, I appreciate that you wanted to save me the effort of drying my clothes, but please, put them in the clothesline, not the TV or the floor, that's disgusting.

Online dating takes a somewhat different mindset than IRL dating, dewd. IMHO the way to do it is send the same copy-paste hello to every girl/boy/Jewish furry Scientologist (depending on your preferences) you think you might be interested in, then see how many reply to you and how many you can actually maintain a conversation with. The ones who don't or barely engage you ignore because you've got half a dozen others in the wings. You cast a wide net and gradually narrow it down. IRL people would think you're a slut or player for doing this, but the whole advantage of online dating is that you can do that shit and people don't really care about a few text messages and you don't have to go to the expense of buying someone dinner before figuring out if they're a dud or not.
I tried my hand at online dating a couple times but no one engaged with me for long and the process of finding anyone to actually engage with was so painfully slow that I decided it wasn't worth it.

That and I started to realize I absolutely suck at keeping up with people I'm not in constant physical contact with (this happens with my real life friends too), so I don't think an online relationship's gonna go anywhere for me.

I'm also getting really tired of bicyclists who ride on the sidewalk and give no warning when they come barrelling down the walk right by me. No slowing down, no warning of any kind.

It's even worse when you get to the crossing.

That's why I just go on the grass. There's no way I'd ride in the street though near cars. I already got hit by a car while on foot before, thank you very much. I get more annoyed when cyclists yell at me to "go left" or "go right."
It seems to be a bigger problem when the person has headphones on and I try to warn them, in my experience.

How do incompetent drivers pass drivers ed in the first place?
Because driver's ed is a joke, at least in the US.
Driver's ed can be a crap shoot. Some schools offer it (and even offer a unit of elective credit towards graduation for it), but the roadwork portion -- at least when I was a student -- consisted of little more than driving around on a circular or oval track with little to no actual on-road experience.

Other places that offer it, such as drivers schools or courses through the YMCA, tend to have students driving on the road almost right away once the course starts. My class through the Y, for example, required us to successfully demonstrate competency with freeway, main road, and residential street driving along with a combined score of 70% or better on the written tests before we could receive our permits.

I'm not sure if it's still true since driver's ed laws changed in my state subsequent to my taking it, but it used to be the case that anyone who was 18 or over when making their first application for a driver's license didn't have to first complete driver's ed; they simply had to pass the same 15-question quiz anyone does and take a brief road test in lieu of what would be learned during driver's ed.

May or may not have mentioned this before, but people that ride your bumper because you aren't doing 60 in a 30 but won't pass you when they have a clear chance to do so.
My drive home from work often includes a stretch where the speed limit is 25 MPH (40 km/h) with random speed traps in a particular location. Despite this, I get countless cars that want to ride my bumper when I'm going the maximum 25 MPH. A few have been so impatient that they've passed me in the center left turn lane when I'm ready to turn right onto the next road because they can't wait the extra second or two for me to complete my turn and be out of their way.

If they're in that much of a hurry, they should take the main road four blocks away where the speed limit is 35 MPH (56 km/h).

Do "events" or "happenings" count for this thread?

Cause I just randomly remembered the Yaser Abdel Said case and have become livid.

I lost a friend in high school in a car accident; he was speeding. Because of this and having incredibly gorey safe-driving videos screened at school every year since 7th grade I started driving later and am also a really safe driver (or I believe I am). The most I'll do over the speed limit is 5 MPH, I usually drive under, I always drive under at night, etc. I get mad on the internet IRL when people actually pass me in no-passing areas, going up hills, etc. Not to be a white girl in 2013 but I "literally can't even" when it comes to drivers.
