Completely agree with posts upthread, this dog is WAY too thin. Especially for a lab mix. (I rescued two labs - one full bred and one lab-ish - and both were VERY food motivated)

Regarding the shoes: while they look totally OTT, there are actually legit reasons to use them:
1. To protect doggo, either from extremely hot surfaces or from snow/rain
2. To protect home/self from everything that the dog steps in. I take my shoes off at the door for the same reason, I may have picked up any number of disgusting germs or chemicals on my shoes and don’t want to bring that in to my living space.

We had a rescue foster for a while that had to wear booties for a few weeks to hold antibiotic balm onto his feet because he'd worn away his paw pads living on hot concrete, so there's the third option.

The dog with no paw pads was less skinny than that lab. That's straight up animal abuse.

Her hair is clean, yet she manages to still look grimy. That’s the real mystery, and it’s not medical.

I think it has to do with her coloring and clothes/makeup/hair color. She looks Pale and that taupe color she’s wearing and smokey eye doesn’t do her any favors. Also it possible she turned the saturation way down à la Onision.

I know someone whose lab got diabetes, and he looked like this poor dog very quickly despite having good care. The owner gave him daily insulin shots once he was diagnosed, and that helped him put weight back on. Seems like if a SD has diabetes or another serious illness, it would not be working anymore, though. Regardless, this pupper needs better care.

A dog with its own chronic illness is usually retired. But if it was something that was easily handled through medication and didn't get in the way of it working it might be able to work with diabetes.
