In the most pragmatic sense, you're absolutely right, of course.
I'll make this my last word on the matter, as I don't think that either of us are going to change each other's views, but the important difference is one of dedication. Rightly or wrongly, deludedly or not, a genuine transsexual needs to spend years pondering over whether or not transitioning is really the best way forward for them. They have prolonged discussions for a good period of time with psychotherapists to ensure that it is the right decision for them, rather than some vapid fashion statement. If they then decide that it still is their best option, then there's all the fun of intensive hormone therapy and invasive surgery to look forward to, and without even the assurance that they'll even look conventionally good at the end of it all. Agree with them or not, I can at least respect someone who thinks about that carefully and then still decides to go ahead. Not all transsexuals are poseurs.
Chris...well, if he just claimed to be a transvestite and left it at that, then I'd have no trouble with that aspect of his life. But he is not and never will be a transsexual in my eyes. He's just not committed or principled enough. And just too goddamned lazy.
Anyway. Here endeth the ranting.
