Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I also have to wonder what the movie would've looked like if Carrie Fisher hadn't died. The whole "Rise of Skywalker" thing could've referred to her originally maybe? I deliberately avoided reading much about the movie before going to see it precisely because I didn't want to either be too hyped or too negative going in

All of the articles that keep lowering projections keep the shill veneer up, which is fascinating.

Why write for deadline if you're still going to carry water for the rat?

Saying something is the "x most z since y" is bullshit if it isn't #1. No one cares who had the third best four day box office of a winter solstice while mercury is in retrograde.

As someone in a much better film than ROS said, if you aint first you're last.

From what I understand, Kennedy originally wanted Carrie/Leia to be the actual last Jedi and apparently the last surviving OT character, but Carrie's death threw a wrench into her plans.

Intersecetional feminist she may be, but Grace Randolph has deep Disney connections and always does a very solid and fair analysis of the box office.
Those interested would to well to watch her weekly breakdown for an insight into industry thinking.

What will be interesting to see will be the second weekend drop. TFA had a really good hold only falling 40%, TLJ had a steep 67% drop and I suspect this shitheap will also see a 60% plus second weekend drop.

That still wouldn't make the last movie any better. But knowing Leia's character, she would have felt that she wasn't worthy of being the last Jedi. So, unless Disney thought it through and had Ghost Luke tell Leia she was worthy of being the last Jedi, it would be a huge blow to the movie.

Kylo Ben killed them at the end with the help the new "now you see me now you don't" force teleporting trick that they now do. He does that lil shoulder shrug like "Ooops now I gots a lightsaber?" and then hacks them all apart. They were as useless as tits on a bull and their weapons were pulled straight out of a Bezerk anime, that giant cleaving sword was straight up useless.
What was really stupid was the portion of the fight where he blocked the cleaving sword. Fucking hell, Disney has billions yet can't afford to choreograph worth a fuck.

Pretty much, yeah. I don't pretend to understand Kennedy's logic in regards to any questionable decision she makes. She's baffling enough as it is. Also I tend to think they may have put too much pressure on Carrie.

Keep these edits coming, I just can't get enough right now.

Unpopular opinion:
Not the worst main Star Wars movie.

I'd rather watch TRoS than ever watch The Phantom Menace ever again.

That's not a high bar to clear. TRoS is definitely not a good movie, and I think its worst points are the worst out of any Star Wars movie

I second this opinion. Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones still remain in my top spots for worst SW movies... Last Jedi is a close 3rd with Rise of Skywalker a slightly more distant 4th. Apart from a small group of decent action / SFX setpieces, the first two prequels are just mindfuckingly dull and wooden. The cast is soooo bored and lifeless, like the craft services tables were nothing but piles of valium and xanax tablets. I guess I can understand them being held in higher regard if you were a kid when they came out... but that's about it.

Each to their own, but me personally the prequel movies at the very least felt like they were Star Wars. The new movies, while carrying the name Star Wars, to me they don't feel like Star Wars. Unlike the new movies who used the same themes from episodes 1-6, episodes 1-3 felt new and exciting. I remember being so stoked to see episode 3 in theaters I couldn't contain my excitement. The last time I felt that same feeling was for the first Avenger movie.

Also I love the Clone Wars lore that came from the prequels. Because the Clone Wars were mentioned in A New Hope, by Obi-Won.

I thought EP3 was a pretty solid recovery considering the first two... still a little bloated and clunky in places... we probably didn't need 25 minutes of lava acrobatics before Obi-Wan defeated Anakin... but generally speaking, I liked Ep3. While I kind of drifted into and out of the Clone Wars stuff, I generally enjoyed it.

But in general, I felt TFA nailed the SW universe vibe much better than the prequels did. From the get go, the prequels looked cheap. Nobody was fooled that this was anything but Lucas sitting in a greenscreen covered warehouse outside of San Francisco filming his actors read banal dialogue. They just felt lazy from the get-go. There were exceptions obviously, with TPM returning to Tunisia and such... but just way way way too many obvious digital matte paintings sucked the immersion dry pretty quickly. It just didn't really pass the smell test at the time and today looks dated as fuck. Lucas was more worried about advertising for ILM then he was in telling an engaging story or getting his actors to wake up. But I will give Lucas credit where it is deserved, the prequel trilogy slowly improved over time while Disney shit the bed and crashed with their 2nd entry.

Yeah, sure it made $175 million, but it’s below expectations.

You know though, the movie was so edited in such a rushed manner it makes me wonder how much content they cut out that would’ve made the film better or worse.
If those deleted scenes actually makes the RoSW movie much BETTER I would be so surprise. Because then what's the point in cutting out scenes from the movie, if it made it better.

John wick and a bunch of asian films have great choreography and the had no budget, so whats disney excuse again?
