Animal abuse laws are pathetic for the most part. Aside from most offenders only getting a slap on the wrist, the vast majority of states have not enacted an animal abuser registry- meaning that someone who got convicted of burning puppies alive can walk into a pet store or animal shelter and come out with a new victim.

You don't have to be a bleeding heart animal lover to want stricter consequences for animal abusers. Animal abuse (especially torture and killing) is highly correlated with antisocial behavior. Inflicting pain and suffering on animals for one's own pleasure is the biggest of red flags, as it indicates a severe lack of empathy. Infamously, most serial killers have a long history of torturing and killing animals. Aside from that, mass shooters, domestic abusers, arsonists, and violent criminals in general often have a history of animal abuse.

There is nothing more frustrating than hearing a serial killer or other criminal talk about how they used to torture animals and nobody stopped them. Maybe if their crimes were taken more seriously, at least some of their human victims could have been spared.

the animal torture isn't really the silver bullet. Its the sexual deviancy. Prosecution has to play it out like he's a depraved menace to society that will uncontrollably jump on anything. But yes, I'm rather optimistic on this one. Pending I see the charges of course. I'm expecting a few to drop more than likely.

I guess I am one of your "bleeding hearts" because, to me, the torture of animals is per se heinous enough. I appreciate that pointing out that it leads to harming humans is probably instrumental in campaigning for harsher penalties, but to me that eventuality is less important. In any case you are right that penalties need to be harsher.

Again, 30 felony child abuse charges is a lot so it really isn't a surprise that it took over a year for him to be re-arrested after his devices were seized.

Depends on the prosecutor and how seriously they take the case. If it gets assigned to a specialized prosecution unit (e.g., one dedicated to sex or animal crimes), we might get someone a bit more hawkish. If it gets mixed in with the other felonies, it will get treated like other felonies. We (people on KF) are interested in this case because we’ve followed closely it for about a year, but the DA who gets this case might not be as interested.

The thing is, this guy is likely gonna plea out, and no one pleas out to their maximum exposure. If he’s looking at 20 if he takes it to trial, the offer will probably be half that. After that, sentencing is almost totally up to the judge, and who knows what the judge will do.

I hasten to add though that prosecutors do seem to care about cases more if they perceive the public is paying attention. So perhaps we should learn which prosecutor the case has been assigned to.

Aye sure, been asking friends about their expeirences with him since this shit resurfaced, since I never wanted to talk to the guy myself
truth be told he always seemed just a bit past cringy for a while there, that low functioning annoying kinda vibe, and you could tell the kid was fucked but it never clicked fully till shit started happening
One such thing was when he raped my ex girlfriend and managed to dodge the the bullet from that, because of his autism, the lack of concrete evidence, the lack of witnesses, and the fact that she waited a solid while before reporting it, the case would've been impossible to pursue. Small town so everyone knew about it too which sucked for her.
