Oh don't take this as pity, mind you! Just looking at the fact that Phil's parents are pathetic to allow this kind of shit to happen. They have a son who's damn near 40 years old and is begging to children while a $100K debt hangs over his head. They're failures as parents. But if I was in their position, I'd kiss the end of a fucking shotgun.
I hope all this leeching off his parents money in turn means there will be nothing there for inheritance.

They're a different generation... I'm Phil's age, a single child and my parents are loner friendless losers without much family like the Burnell household seems to be... they're so clueless about anything to do online despite giving them computers and they have good internet access. I'd bet they honestly have no idea about anything Phil does online.
If I'm bailing my adult kid out of an unpaid mortgage or his tax issues (or any other reason I might be cutting him a check for four figures) I'm looking into why the fuck he needs it. Mainly because I want to be sure he's not ten large in the hole to some loan shark that's gonna shake him down for more once he realizes he's paying out or shank him when he doesn't come up with the rest of the money, but I don't think that's a generational thing, that's a Good Parenting thing.
Its funny cause i was watching a recent tevin video where dsp talked about getting calendars from Lana.... Lee... Lea... I forgot her name... Anyway, tevin said he hopes dsp will get a calendar from kat.
A calendar is such an ironic gift for Phil. Why does he need to know what day it is apart from when he needs to take several hours to wheel out and wheel in the garbage? Every day and week and month and year is exactly the same for him. It'd be like getting a day planner for a prisoner.
He has trash day written on his dry erase weekly calender in his kitchen. "Wednesday - take out trash. Thursday - bring in trash"
His gaming schedule is written on his giant yearly wall calender.
Can you blame Kat for not caring enough to put thought into her gift? Last year she bought him a brand new electric razor. Phil would go days without shaving because his razor was old and broken. So she gets him a new "not top of the line but also not cheap" model. He proceeded to only shave like once a week. Why? Because now "shaving hurts his face".

Being from Somaliland I'm not too familiar with US tax law, but would he be able to write gifts off as a business expense? I.e. do you think he'd insist in getting the receipt with any games he was given for christmas so he could write them off for tax purposes?

What about any potential gift certificates etc. (Nintendo EShop or whatever it's called) that he later used to purchase games with? Unsure what the consequences would be, but as far as I'm aware the accounts he uses for on his Switch/Playstation are all personal accounts that he just so happens to also use for his business (and would of existed prior to him becoming and admitting his business was a super srs bsns)
