This is why I despise what passes for 'crafts' these days. That things is neither beautiful nor useful, is poorly constructed from mass-produced bottom-tier materials and is simply the kind of function-free ugly clutter you'd expect a child to bring home from a class where they did something like that to develop their motor skills and produce something only a doting parent will pretend to want.

I feel for real craftspeople with their hard-won skills, having to compete in a marketplace where the word 'craft' has been devalued to relfect some SAHM making utterly pointless shite as a way to pass the time.

Ali, you said he hadn’t assimilated into our culture yet, and you described some rude examples. Unfortunately, plenty of born and bred Americans snap at waitresses and double dip. Sounds like he’d be an ill-mannered jerk in any country.

I guess I’m still curious about ways he hasn’t assimilated. Did you notice any attitudes that women are 2nd place(including Amy)? Seems he does a lot of the stuff around the house and childcare since she’s too fat, and don’t those cultures think that’s woman’s work? Can you think of any examples of this? Does he comment on other women and clothing? If Amy wanted to take her head covering off, would he care? In many Muslim cultures women don’t drive but Amy is in her van all the time. Do they go to the mosque? Did she have to convert or was marrying a Muslim guy enough?

Seems like the religion is just for show but hard to know for sure.

The effort she puts into her hijab is basically carried over into her clothing, she wears things that most observant Muslim women wouldn't wear and/or their husbands would not be happy about them wearing, and he doesn't care. She wasn't Muslim when he married her, so if she decided not to wear hijab I don't think he would say anything. I never heard of her attending any gatherings at the mosque and she did not go to the group prayers for the holidays, I assume because she didn't have the mobility necessary, and because it's not mandatory for women. Other than wearing hijab and not eating pork or drinking alcohol I'm not sure how observant she is.

There was a period of time that she suspected he was cheating on her, but this was never confirmed and she dropped it after a while and never confronted him. If they went anywhere together he would drive, but alone he didn't care if she drove herself. They live in a total shitheap so I doubt she ever went through the home inspection necessary to get licensed. If she was pulling as much as she says she was, there is no way she was only minding 3 children at a time, which is the legal limit for an unlicensed provider.

I found an article that seems relevant to Amy's case, it's about an unlicensed daycare provider, also in Oregon, who copped multiple fines and warnings for exceeding the limit of children, but was allowed to continue operating until someone made an allegation of abuse. It was then that the provider was properly investigated, and was also banned from providing licensed or unlicensed care in the state of Oregon.

So it takes a complaint with some heft to get them to come knocking on your door.

I was kinda hoping that the prize would be one of Amy’s handcrafted treasures. After all, I’ve always longed for a three-tier snack dish that was constructed with a glue gun, and adorned with candlesticks, plastic bowls, dollar store stones and large plastic flowers.

The best part of this particular video is at the very end, where it completely falls apart. The fact that this woman home-schools is mind boggling.

The first minutes of this astonishing display, before she obscures the screams of her unattended children with music, (but without speeding things up as is the norm) she clips tags and throws the trash on the floor. The floor next to her bed.... she's crafting in bed.

As you say, it's mind boggling that she claims to home school. This reminded me of the cake making debacle where we saw her teach the children to tear open the bag of cake mix like an animal, and then sweep the inevitable spillage onto the floor.

The way it falls apart at the end makes it clear that this cheap pile of crap will bear the weight of nothing whatsoever, as it can't bear the weight of the decorations, and its no where near level.

So there you have it--follow these simple steps and you too can have a lopsided stack of crap that is neither use nor ornament for your very own.

As a stay at home mom who does make pointless crap to pass the time, I'm not going to disagree.
