And funnily enough, if you get talking to people, there are lots of people making money doing things contrary to that tweeter's predictions. I have friends with science degrees who work as mechanics, writers, fishing guides, all sorts of shit. I was going to yoga for a while and the instructor spent ten years as a mechanical engineer, but said fuck it and has spent the last fifteen teachig yoga instead. I was chatting up a bartender in Toronto last summer who got her business degree, didn't like it, and bartends part time and is apparently a very talented musician, so part time does music classes for autistic kids. You can still find work with degrees like that. For instance, with a history degree, you can work as a researcher, teacher, paralegal, lawyer, writer, editor, or curator. Of course, these usually require more specialized certificates and training to get some of these jobs. The history degree is merely meant to be a stepping stone, not the end goal. This problem of not finding a job isn’t really the fault of capitalism, but the fault of not utilizing and applying what has been learned. Higher education is useless if you have no plan on how to use the degree in the first place. The degrees listed aren’t exactly known for clear cut career paths, but that doesn’t mean they’re useless in a capitalist society.
The tweeter just isn't imaginative enough. If anyone can make a living from a Women's Studies degree, then it's possible to find a path to make money from virtually anything.
