Also, just talking FTMs, the effects of testosterone are almost all permanent - voice deepening, facial hair, more pronounced jaw muscles. I'm not sure about MTFs, but I assume there are plenty of physical consequences of HRT for them as well.

HRT definitely isn't something that should be taken lightly either.

MTFs increase their risk of specific cancers, and also blood clots. Both sets of hormones seem to come with the side effect of altering mood when taken in such high doses.

Even the ones with gender dysphoria should probably try therapy for a few months before getting on titty skittles. Medicating yourself for mental issues can be super helpful, but it should be a last resort.

Late to this thread, and didn't really read through it. Familiar with the story since I heard about it as soon as the news broke, sorry if most of what I've said has been said before.

As someone who lives in an incredibly blue US city, and someone who spends a lot of time on left leaning spaces on the internet, I have a lot of transgender friends. Hearing stories like these bum me the fuck out, and it's incredibly disheartening. One thing I've learned over the years, from watching second hand is that bottom surgery almost never works. It's a solution for a very small minority of the trans population, and the amount of people on the internet that actively encourage people into SRS (most of whom haven't even done it themselves because fucking surprise, most internet trannies are unemployed NEETS) is incredibly frightening. The last thing I want Remilia to become is some sort of statistic or posterchild for botched surgury, but it really makes me fucking upset to watch fuckers actively encourage young people to not only get a dangerous operation, but to insist that said operation will magically fix all of their fucking brain problems. That's not even including the stupid fucking people who encourage trans people to get SRS in some shithole 3rd world clinic, just because it's cheaper. Why the fuck anyone would think it's a good idea to do a life changing operation for cheap is a fucking mystery to me.

Here's my soapbox. I think hormone therapy is fine. It's been tested, it works if you start at the right age, and with a proper endocrinologist and psychiatrist, it can work incredibly well with helping people who suffer from gender dysphoria. Bottom surgery is nothing anyone under the age of 30 should be getting, even then, it's a fucking barbaric practice that hardly works and it's something that most people immediately regret afterward. No one talks about how fucking painful it is to dilate your fucking axe wound. No one ever talks about how transphobic people will still treat you shitty after SRS. No one ever talks about the downsides, it's just put on a stupid pedestal by an incredibly toxic online trans community that brainwashes people into thinking it's a cure all for a mental disorder that we as a species barely fucking understand.

Most people who start to transition or troon out are constructing their new identity at the same time that their friends are being goth or huffing paint. Not a lot of real maturity.
