Singapore is actually wealthier/more developed than the UK (or even the US and Canada by most measurements). He is -- sadly -- getting the better deal in terms of citizenship.

I'd wager this is more a case of two damaged people allowing linguistic/cultural differences to act as rose-colored glasses. Neither one can see how messed-up the other one is. But they will eventually. Hopefully they'll learn and grow together. But somehow, I'm not optimistic.
