If Naziism had one defining moral, it was "be kind to everyone, even if they aren't kind to you".

Hitler is seeming pretty cool, in retrospect.

There's no overlap between the people who support New Guy's wholesome image and the people who are actively attacking the author. That would be known as "cognitive dissonance" or more aptly "blatant hypocrisy." Absurder still is saying they're 1 to 1.

And no, saying the original comic is bad and criticizing the author is not "attacking the author."

It's like these people cannot comprehend that not everyone who disagrees with them hold the exact same opinions as each other.

Or even those of us who are saying Jess created a pretty cool character and maybe she should embrace that and try to create more instead of just chimping out that people liked her strawman more than her self-insert. Couldn't this be one of those learning experiences we hear about so much?

It's also incredible how that guy jumps in to give his two cents, and then dips the exact moment somebody questions his logic, being immediately. People with good points they can actually prove don't just run away the moment they get a response.
They also started the conversation to say they’re not continuing it.

Jess has the ability to create likable characters. Most cartoonists would kill for this. And you're chimping out instead? Wtf bitch?

Yeah, I would enjoy a comic where the main character is your usual self-important jerk, but it's self-aware and most of the side characters are likable. Maybe have one be even worse than the MC, so you have a little sympathy for them.

I was surprised they didn't use the transphobic card on this specific conversation. I was expecting it.

You remember the first seasons of Spongebob Squarepants? Squidward was such a good character because of that. He is a deuteragonist, he was arrogant, he was basically a dick. But everyone else around him was likeable, and sometimes he noticed bad things he said and did and tried to correct them. He would grow as a character.

I would like to see that, and I believe Jess could do that, but right now she's too much of an asshole to admit.

I think they just want everyone who disagrees with them to stop and they come up with reasons for why after to justify it.

I liked it except for the date; it needs an edit for a more recent time, which is pretty low effort but this is the one circulating so it's too late.

tumblr's hard to navigate without having an account but I liked this recent find:

can someone explain who that one black girl with the hat character is because I see her everywhere and she's wholesome?

Listen, person who I will never talk to, the main problem with Jess is that she's not just a dick to cishet white dudebros. She's a dick to anybody that argues with her, and her scumfuck asskissers encourage this bad behavior, and then Jess wonders why she hates herself so much and is depressed all the time. It's 'cause she hangs around people who pull these exceptional mental gymnastics to justify them being allowed to be bitchy because OH HOW THEY SUFFER! THEY SUFFER SO, MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!

It's why every single person defending Jess brings up Pewdiepie and him being rich. They can't comprehend that the way the comic is set up just makes Jess come off as petty and antagonistic. If you're only nice to people who agree with you, then you're not a nice person.

Even with all that said, compared to Sophie Labelle and Bria, Jess is practically an angel. She just hangs around terrible, miserable people who in turn, make her terrible and miserable. Unlike a lot of cows, I think she has the capacity to not be bitchy, but she won't change unless it's forced upon her. I think the only thing that could snap her out of this would be to be cancelled by the very people enabling her, but she's already an emotional wreck.

IDK, I have a weird soft spot for Jess just because I've seen where she started and how she keeps falling into these bad behaviors but then shows the faintest glimmers of self-awareness or resentment for where she's placed in her "community."

I don't see how anybody can look at this and not think "this is a cry for help."

I don't know if it's just my cynicism and autism talking, but it feels like those intermittent SOS blips Jess hides in her comics are becoming dimmer with each update. It's like, she's slowly being consumed by her social media personality (like most devotees of social justice), and all that's left is an uncomfortable caricature that isn't a reflection of who she wants to be.

I refuse to agree with the idea that this isn't wholesome, especially since often the claimers definition of wholesome is screaming a long drawn out "X IS TTTTRRRRAAAANNNNSSS" and unironically invests in a shipping involving 12 year olds in a cartoon.
That's always the go to defense for when some lefty content creator gets called on their shit. Criticisms on poor behavior somehow always turn into;

"You're personally attacking me for being trans/minority/sexuality/gender! This is literally assault/murder/violence/rape/harassment! How dare you attack ME for being -insert any mix of the aforementioned social labels here-!!! That makes you a Nazi/bigot/whateverphobic! Now my Twitter/Tumblr/Facebook mob is going to dox and get you fired/arrested/molested!"

Now Jess has never been this bad, but I feel like she is going to get there sooner or later. Which sucks because I actually like Jess and her comics and she has shown signs of major burnout with troon culture online.

Jess is actually the one artist we focus on that I do genuinely think I like. Not for her art or writing, but I think (if I understood your post correctly) there's this certain sincerity and sadness behind it all that I think you pick up on as well. Unlike Labelle or Bria she doesn't pretend she's always right or that her word is The Word of God, I honestly just think she's a it naive and caught up in her own problems and audience, which can make her a bit short sighted and yes, at times, unempathetic and socially awkward.

I love New Guy, but by no means does that mean I hate Jess. In fact, I think this whole thing would be a GREAT way to start a dialouge in her comic and have her character grow a bit. People like character's with flaws because they're relatable and I mean, I know I've said some shit stuff in the past without thinking and had it come back at me.

Finally, one thing I actually LOVE about Jess is that she, unlike Labelle and Bria, is always actively trying to improve her art. I don't always think she's going about it in the right way, but she changes up her style and tries new things and that takes A LOT of guts.

That said, I'll still rag on her a bit for things like this, and some of her more egregious art errors but legit I'd be stoked if she ever reached out to me in some way and wanted to talk art and finding a way to work WITH this New Guy stuff rather than against it. This is great exposure, and I really think she can spin this positively if she embraces it and takes the ribbing rather than doubling down on her own, admittedly immature, original comic.
