I think the new year turning over was the biggest reason it dropped.

I think the most basic reason it dropped (and will continue to drop) is that it appears none of that money made it to the forums proper, despite it being a "money for Something Awful" fund. There was clearly some expectation (as the drive started during) that some of the money would go to Lowtax's medical situation, but it's now going to anything but the forums. Lowtax has been using it as his own personal fund (or his "cheat on my wife" fund) and people are realizing that it's kind of pointless - he's never going to fix the forums in any capacity (tech wise or posting wise) and frankly he doesn't give a shit.

Lowtax hasn't even written an article in months and rarely finds time to post/participate in SA but finds time to constantly post on twitter (between bans), facebook, and (previously) Kiwi Farms. He also finds time to skip out on his families on Thanksgiving to fuck his life up even further. Also the forum still has all of the technical issues it has always had despite $10,000 a month being well more than enough to bring someone professional/competent on to actually fix it - this being after he fundraised ~$15,000 to do exactly that and it never materialized. If you call him out on any of this, he's just falls back into his "b..b..but my spine" defense - despite the fact he was well enough to travel a mere few weeks ago.

People are going to realize that the patreon isn't the "SA Improvement Fund" but rather "Richard Kyanka's personal divorce lawyer/second alimony/third child support/perscription drugs with no insurance/spinal surgery fund" and that even if Lowtax was making $100,000/month that SA would still be entirely neglected.

Something I always found sad is how he never seemed to accept that, to a point, he can't be friends with his users, to some extent you MUST remind them you're the boss or they will show you contempt if you never reinforce that lesson.

Because they demonstrate how they're trying to push the envelope for what gets you banned even further. "Acting in bad faith," a meaningless statement which almost invariably translates to "not agreeing with me" needs to be a bannable offense. Not only that, we need mod guidelines with how to deal with people who skirt on the mere edges of disagreeing with me. What's that? We have a whopping two mods who are just centrist? Get them out of here, and replace them with mods who think exactly as I do rather than mostly. There's an entire subforum of people who disagree with me, you say? Forget it, chop the whole thing off like a leg with frostbite.

This is absurd to the point that I'd applaud this as satire perfected if it weren't done with the utmost seriousness.

These people are insufferable. But something I want to point out before looking at these rules:





Site begins by acting like an obnoxious scrote and whining that their demands, which the mods already caved in to, haven't been met quickly enough, of course only after saying they need to start outright permabanning people instead of temp banning them. They then have the audacity to talk down to the mod helping them when they're asked to clarify by said mod.

The worst part?



The mod apologizes in response to this blatant disrespect. This is bemusing to levels I never thought possible.

Anyway, the stupid rules:



I adore that he calls it "NuFYAD" in complete ignorance of the Nu-male meme, but moving on. These are the rules, and their underlying purposes:

- Slurs are a bannable offense, but made-up slurs are also bannable. What this means is that if mods or users so much as suspect you're using a word which isn't even offensive as an effective censor, you can get banned. This basically widens the trench for what mods can ban you for.

- Mockery of trans users is bannable. This is also vague, and can be abused so that any mockery of a trans user is bannable, even if it isn't related to them being trans. In effect, it makes them a protected class in the forum.

- Complaining about these changes is bannable. Blatant astroturfing so that users can't express their desire for these changes to be overturned, effectively silencing any dissent.

- Asking for users to be unbanned is bannable. Because the above: an effort to quash any dissent.

- Saying something mean even ironically is bannable. This is just pathetic hypersensitivity.

- "Dogwhistling" is bannable. Another vaguery to basically allow any action to feasibly be bannable if there's enough of a push to ban that user.

- Simply responding to a bannable offense done by another user is bannable. Once again, used to prevent people from speaking out against these rules.

In essence, these rules sounds like the spoiled child on the playground making up the rules for pretend so he always wins. The difference is that it's an adult, they're serious, and they're being taken seriously by an authority. It's unquestionable and obvious what their true intent is, and this almost reads like a parody. What's horrifying is that it is not. Worse still is that this isn't even all they rules they had in mind, they describe this as a mere springboard for a more comprehensive list. This is insane.

And to top it all off, this other self-obsessed moron can't go ten seconds without derailing the entire thread specifically to talk about themselves. Check for yourself, this post is apropos of nothing and has zero to do with the matter at hand.
