Iraqi supporters of Iran-backed militia attack US Embassy

BAGHDAD (AP) — Dozens of angry Iraqi Shiite militia supporters broke into the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad on Tuesday after smashing a main door and setting fire to a reception area, prompting tear gas and sounds of gunfire.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw flames rising from inside the compound and at least three U.S. soldiers on the roof of the main building inside embassy. It was not clear what caused the fire at the reception area near the parking lot of the compound. A man on a loudspeaker urged the mob not to enter the compound, saying: “The message was delivered.”

The embassy attack followed deadly U.S. airstrikes on Sunday that killed 25 fighters of the Iran-backed militia in Iraq, the Kataeb Hezbollah. The U.S. military said it was in retaliation for last week’s killing of an American contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base that it had blamed on the militia.

Dozens of protesters marched inside the compound after smashing the gate used by cars to enter the embassy. The protesters, many in militia uniform, stopped in a corridor after about 5 meters (16 feet), and were only about 200 meters away from the main building. Half a dozen U.S. soldiers were seen on the roof of the main building, their guns were pointed at the protesters.

Smoke from the tear gas rose in the area, and at least three of the protesters appeared to have difficulties breathing. It wasn’t immediately known whether the embassy staff had remained inside the main building.

The protesters hanged a poster on the wall: “America is an aggressor.”

Shouting “Down, Down USA,” the crowd tried to push inside the embassy grounds, hurling water and stones over its walls. They raised yellow militia flags and taunted the embassy’s security staff who remained behind the glass windows in the gates’ reception area. They sprayed graffiti on the wall and windows in red in support of the Kataeb Hezbollah militia: “Closed in the name of the resistance.”

Hundreds of angry protesters, some in militia uniforms, set up tents outside the embassy. As tempers rose, the mob set fire to three trailers used by security guards along the embassy wall.

No one was immediately reported hurt in the rampage and security staff had withdrawn to inside the embassy earlier, soon after protesters gathered outside.

The U.S. attack — the largest targeting an Iraqi state-sanctioned militia in recent years — and the subsequent calls by the militia for retaliation, represent a new escalation in the proxy war between the U.S. and Iran playing out in the Middle East.

Tuesday’s attempted embassy storming took place after mourners and supporters held funerals for the militia fighters killed in a Baghdad neighborhood, after which they marched on to the heavily fortified Green Zone and kept walking till they reached the sprawling U.S. Embassy there.

AP journalists then saw the crowd as they tried to scale the walls of the embassy, in what appeared to be an attempt to storm it, shouting “Down, down USA!” and “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday’s strikes send the message that the U.S. will not tolerate actions by Iran that jeopardize American lives.

The Iranian-backed Iraqi militia had vowed Monday to retaliate for the U.S. military strikes. The attack and vows for revenge raised concerns of new attacks that could threaten American interests in the region.

The U.S. attack also outraged both the militias and the Iraqi government, which said it will reconsider its relationship with the U.S.-led coalition — the first time it has said it will do so since an agreement was struck to keep some U.S. troops in the country. It called the attack a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty.

In a partly televised meeting Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi told Cabinet members that he had tried to stop the U.S. operation “but there was insistence” from American officials.

The U.S. military said “precision defensive strikes” were conducted against five sites of Kataeb Hezbollah, or Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq and Syria. The group, which is a separate force from the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, operates under the umbrella of the state-sanctioned militias known collectively as the Popular Mobilization Forces. Many of them are supported by Iran.

Iranians said that they're not going to hand over the black box to Boeing.
I can understand that. Boeing hasn't been doing to well with the Max 8 or their military planes, if the plane crashed because of mechanical issues, I doubt boeing would be honest about it.

I don't discount that Iran would lie either but Boeing isn't a trustworthy company.

In the past I've said I wished the US was on friendlier terms with Iran just so that we could get out from under the fucking Saudi's thumb, but getting any usefulness out of friendship with them is just a pipe dream.

I say our government should just buy on the cheap every older passenger jet that our airlines are going to decommission anyway. Empty them of people and fill them with poison haram food like ground pork and put them on autopilot over Iranian airspace. When every one of them suffers an "accident" that the Canadian government and Twitter aren't willing to let anyone publicly talk about, the war will end before it's began and we can go back to normal.

While I agree that we, nor any other western nation should have any involvement in the Mideast, it still doesn't change the fact that Iran attacked a US embassy, and had high ranking leadership in another country currently occupied by us. Even Russia doesn't seem to be backing Iran at this point.

Edit:
,and she's not getting ripped because she's against a war, she's getting ripped because she's turning an attack on a US embassy into an "orange man bad" argument. Most of the people who've tied into it with her are fierce anti-interventionists.

Yeah, Cosmos seems like a nice person but she acts rather autistic when it comes to politics. Look up her thread about Prager U. She got really ass mad people didn't agree with them being cows. They weren't even defending PU, just said they were typical old boomer conservatives and boring.

And posters want us to worry about a country that doesn't have a proper IFF system that can't make out a passenger jet or a chain of command so bad some sand nigger shit their pants and launched a missile at a slow moving target. (Its actually really easy to ID a passenger jet vs. military aircraft. Military aircraft break the sound barrier, passenger jets do not).

At least the Russians that shot down a passenger liner had the excuse that they were all drunk, what the fuck do these sub-86 IQ cousin fuckers have?

Be scared of Iran. Get fucked. We should take them out on general principle. Fucking incompetents. Be like the petty dictators and join the UN circle jerk. At least they're smart enough to stay in their lane. Iran is too fucking stupid.

Not only were Russians drunk but active enemy aircrafts did operate in the area. What active hostile aircrafts were there in Iran ? Russians mistaked Transport Aircraft for Military, Iranians mistaked Transport Plane for a drone ? or for nonexistent hostile aircraft operating there ? That was DEPARTING IRAN ? It appears Saudi are more competent.

I used to think North Korea was the most gung-ho, trigger happy tinpot dictatorship on the planet. Iran just decided to ignore it's own religious laws on alcohol and handed the world their illegal stills so they could prove me wrong.

But seriously, I knew a lot people would die if this crap went out of control, but I'm kinda disturbed most of them are because Iran is too dense to not attack the wrong targets.

@Cosmos made a post about this in the other thread and got bombed for it, but I completely agree that we should have no military presence in the old world, especially not the middle east. We should not have bases within 50 miles of every border Iran shares with its neighbors.

A primary concern with Clinton to me was that she had previously stated that she intended to go to war with both Russia and Iran. When the Orange-Man-Russian-Callooshun shit started up I made an active decision I'd rather have someone financially involved in making deals with Russia than some crazy lady who obsessively hated Putin.

I don't care what Iran does. I don't care if Iranians are killed by the Iranian government. I don't care if they bomb Iraq or Afghanistan. I don't care. I don't give a fuck about any of these shithole countries. Fuck off.
No one cares if Iranians die off into extinction. Only the Americans lives that they will take with them which in this case attempted numerous times including but not limited to killing American contractors, staging US embassy riots, and destroying American sphere of influence in Iraq. Of course the latter being the least important here but Saudis and Jews would agree. Iran is a fucking problem for them.

Apparently, many of self-professed Muslims have this folklore loophole, that lets them drink and eat as swine, as long as they are inside and it's night time.

I haven't been friends with an actual Muslim myself but many people have reiterated that, so there must be at least a kernel of truth.

Conspiracy Theory: This is glow in the dark ops because Boris and treudeu are both like "not my problem lol" (Which is fair enough. Nobody wants ANOTHER fucking sandnigger fight that lasts a millenium)

You're mistaken, Iran says they didn't declare an emergency. We all know they would never lie.

Ukrainian flight did not declare emergency before crash: Iranian media

DUBAI (Reuters) - A Ukrainian airliner with 176 aboard that crashed in Iran on Wednesday did not declare an emergency, Iranian media said, quoting an official of the Iran Civil Aviation Organization.

The comments were made by Hassan Rezaeifar, the general director of the body’s panel to investigate aircraft accidents.

Foreigners accounted for 32 of those on board, state television said.

The Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport due to technical problems, killing all on board, state media said.

Like the Pilot had any time to say anything to anyone bar "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

You do realize that embassies aren't a military presence, and that the US would definitely have one in Iran even if it kept every single soldier it ever recruited within state borders? The singular difference that not having military bases in the vicinity of Iran would've made in this incident is that America would've had no feasible means to retaliate when Iran had stormed its embassy.

tl;dr: You might not care, but they care very much that you don't care.

I used to be close to a lot of muslim people (Moved away, didnt cut ties for any other reason) and it really ranges as much as it does with other religions. I knew people that followed the Quaran as law, people that followed it closely, people that followed it as a guide to healthy living. Most weren't extremist and were extremely pleasant people.

That's the key term though, extremism. Extremism is dangerous no matter what it is, be it religion or politics. We have a country with an extreme political leader vs one with an extreme religious one, not really a good mix.

Yes I know an Embassy is not a military base, but I did not say embassies for a reason.

Ron Paul not winning the election in 2008 destroyed the entire country. The United States will only continue to wane. It cannot be stopped anymore.

I understand that feel, but do you seriously think Ron Paul wouldn't have been stonewalled, accused of collusion, everything else that's been thrown at trump? Hell, Paul may well have gone harder and got got. It's been too late for longer than that. Enjoy the ride fuckers.

That's actually not implausible. If you look at the ADS-B track earlier, everything was fine, then suddenly it cut off. Even if they weren't busy trying to save it, they may not have had electric power to the radios. Not declaring an emergency itself is an indicator of an incredibly energetic event, which mechanical failure tends not to be.

I also wonder what nation you live in considering your nation has only had 2 terrorist attacks, which is very impressive.

Argentina probably, I wouldn't say impressive, they just aren't as involved in international conflicts as the US, Russian and etc, but have their own history of dictatorship and internal conflicts.

Iran was suspected in the terrorist attack of the Israel embassy and a jewish cultural center in Argentina, this was in the 90s, as more proof of Iran has always been a nation of savages that doesn't give a shit about civilians even in countries that aren't and never were at war with them.

How will those european countries react? will they blame orange man for getting their citizens killed? or will they point fingers at iran for killing them?

or both?

Russian troops shutdown Malasian MH17 and it was decisively proven despite 10 different ridiculous versions that Russia offered. Russia backed terrorists made mockery of the crash, literally pillaging the crash site and selling personal items on media, making funny photos on location. EU, Malaysia, Aussies are fine with it.

EU will lube up and bend over again.

we can go back further in time to Ross Perot running.

1. If you are not D or R, you are splitting the vote and making the "closest ally" loose.

2. Trump DID have a nice suggestion ... "elect more good people into congress". People bet that one person is going to change the course, but POTUS is NOT a dictator and with corrupt congressmen getting elected despite all the scandals, POTUS even theoretically can only do so much.

I'm not a Trump fan and I still think that he could have done more, along the lines of his promises.
