These systems (opioid, excitatory) don't just exist for their named purpose of pain or response to stimulation, but also to modulate other systems of the body including hormone production. So when you're downregulated in your opioid production, it doesn't just affect your normal sensation of pain, but more ambiguous areas like libido, motivation, incentive - and concrete areas like impotence.

Say a person is in debilitating congenital pain, his opioid production is no longer upregulated since he's been in constant pain for months. His previous high production levels depleted reserves of precursors and his diet sucks because he can't get shit done due to the pain. It's not in survival interests to try to usurp a female mate of higher-rank who shows interest in other males. It is unlikely he has anything enticing to offer much less his unfit body, so she can fight/evade him herself, and her prospective high-value male interest would drive home the point simply to have her as part of a harem of prospective mates if she is high value, to increase his own value to attain more high-value mates. So our bodies already know when opioid systems are agonised yet downregulated, meaning there are opiate chemicals in the receptor but not many are being self-produced, that's a really, really bad time to flood the body with constant boner producing hormones.

Creating a new account to post on the DL makes sense. She went from having most of her social contact online to nothing once she left Lowtax. The account was active for awhile before it jumped into the fray on the Vice article.
