The Irish hospital system is seeing its worst overcrowding in history this week, plus it's flu season. Nonessential checkups and visitations are being cancelled in some locations so it's possible that that's why he can't see her at the moment.

I think he's probably too dumb to be faking it. Possibly making it out to be worse than it is. In any case I don't think any of us wish his mother to die if she is on her last legs; I guess we'll just wait and see what happens.

My guess is she is not gravely ill, will probably recover, and our boy is just overreacting and panicking. He's previously mentioned the time she went to housesit for someone, and they wound him up by saying she'd left his da and moved out. That rattled him, he's not good with stress. His mam is clearly his favourite.
