Bit off topic, but I'm not sure if this sort of behavior is solely an ignorance of the rules, and not a genuine inability to communicate online without the comment somehow directly relating to themselves. This isn't haydur-specific, you encounter this in just about any community. Even when talking about movies or international politics, people like that default to responses like "As a Hispanic woman/cat owner/sufferer from anal fissures myself, I think that my husband/vet/proctologist would take great offense to this, because he, too, was verbally abused in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, in 1995!"

I'd call it a type of egocentrism, but maybe that's simplifying things too much.
