Take a look around. First World countries are generally equipped and provisioned to deal with this. Mass communications available throughout. Russia, less so.

As a rule, Third World countries are not generally equipped or provisioned to deal with anything more than a minor outbreak. Problem - any outbreak in a Third World country will not stay minor for long, meaning the health system will be overtaxed very quickly. Mass communications not always the best, and a number of people there won't believe the news anyway. Biggest problem, as previously mentioned - this virus gets to a Third World country, mutates, spreads very quickly. People leave the country, not always screened upon departure/entry. Gonna be a mess, and this shitshow has just started.

Still waiting to hear from CDC re effectiveness of Tamiflu on this virus. Hope they don't blow me off.

I don't know if it says more about me or the state of the world if I could see multiple people not only saying that but honestly believing that.

Asia / the South Pacific absolutely hates doctors.

In the West, we don't see them until we're at an advanced stage with the disease that's going to kill us. In the East, except Japan, they just fucking kill the doctors, modern medicine does not fit with their culture.

Worst example of this principle is Cambodia. The Khmer Rouge decided all knowledge taught in French is evil. They burned all French medical textbooks, reverted back to textbooks from 1911 that included standard practices like trephony and phrenology. They made existing doctors re-learn the Cambodian textbooks, murdered all the doctors who could not absorb all the material and un-learn the other stuff within 3 months.

When they killed the doctors, it mostly happened in re-education camps. They would be strung up at the ankles and wrists, at an angle between two trees. Medical "students" would be forced to do live dissections, upright on a human hammock while that person's guts spilled out all over the ground. This was actually part of the curriculum, Cambodian doctors had a dual-role as healer and propaganda mouthpiece. They would need to pick up those organs and tell witnesses where the fault lied with the patient.

Bear in mind that thus far it is still just speculation. While I have gone on record in repeatedly saying that China is a hell of a lot more fragile and precarious than they like to show the world, the whole "shit they arent telling us" goes both ways and it could well be that they have shit well contained and are just putting on a "show" of mass quarantine and everything that entails to both be 1000% sure and to show off how effective and awesome they are to the population, as well as to avoid any international scrutiny.
