A transgender girl accused of assaulting two students at a Texas high school alleges that she was being bullied and was merely fighting back

Shocking video shows a student identified by police as Travez Perry violently punching, kicking and stomping on a girl in the hallway of Tomball High School.

The female student was transported to the hospital along with a male student, whom Perry allegedly kicked in the face and knocked unconscious.

According to the police report, Perry - who goes by 'Millie' - told officers that the victim has been bullying her and had posted a photo of her on social media with a negative comment.

One Tomball High School parent whose daughter knows Perry said that the 18-year-old had been the target of a death threat.

'From what my daughter has said that the girl that was the bully had posted a picture of Millie saying people like this should die,' the mother, who asked not to be identified by name, told DailyMail.com.

When Perry appeared in court on assault charges, her attorney told a judge that the teen has been undergoing a difficult transition from male to female and that: 'There's more to this story than meets the eye.'

Perry is currently out on bond, according to authorities.

The video of the altercation sparked a widespread debate on social media as some claim Perry was justified in standing up to her alleged bullies and others condemn her use of violence.

The mother who spoke with DailyMail.com has been one of Millie's most ardent defenders on Facebook.

'I do not condone violence at all. But situations like this show that people now a days, not just kids, think they can post what they want. Or say what they want without thinking of who they are hurting,' she said.

'Nobody knows what Millie has gone through, and this could have just been a final straw for her. That is all speculation of course because I don't personally know her or her family, but as a parent and someone who is part of the LGBTQ community this girl needs help and support, not grown men online talking about her private parts and shaming and mocking her.'

One Facebook commenter summed up the views of many, writing: 'This was brutal, and severe! I was bullied for years and never attacked anyone!'

Multiple commenters rejected the gender transition defense and classified the attack as a male senselessly beating a female.

One woman wrote on Facebook: 'This person will get off because they're transitioning. This is an animal. She kicked, and stomped, and beat...not okay. Bullying is not acceptable, but kicking someone in the head. Punishment doesn't fit the crime.'

I'm on my phone so I can't post it, but Anne Lawrence's book "Men Trapped in Men's Bodies" is floating around online. If you really want to get the details about how autogynephilia developed as a concept it's a good read.

For those who haven't been following along, Lawrence is a psychologist who is herself transsexual and self-identified AGP. She believes that for some AGP with persistant dysphoria, transition is helpful, but overall believes that knowledge of AGP and honesty with oneself about it is necessary. She's been around for years as one of the few voices trying to fight the "AGP isn't real" dominant crowd.

Basically, the "two type" phenomenon of MTFs is well established in literature for decades, though researchers don't necessarily agree with either the split along homo/hetero lines, or with the conceptualization of AGP per se. I've just written an effortpost on this paper and posted it on TransEthics thread. Allow me to copy-paste it here:

Contrary to what CNN claims, the study has not yet been published on the journal Pediatrics, but appears on their website as a pre-print (full text here). It is a cross-sectional, retrospecive, correlational study that relied on pre-existing data, and the finding is that youths who wanted puberty suppression and got it have much fewer suicide ideations than youths who wanted puberty suppression and didn't get it.

(Someone please do a study to compare the suicide rate of children who wanted a PS4 and got it vs. those who wanted a PS4 and didn't get it!)

Joking aside, the major flaw of the study is that the researchers relied on a pre-existing survey, instead of making a survey themselves. Hence they can only accounted for some, but not most, of the factors that might affect youth suicide. Adolescents who had access to puberty blockers -- especially when it was first used on "trans kids" back in 1998 -- were likely to come from a higher social class, had more "supportive" parents, and had easier access to psychiatric services. The researchers accounted for family support, but not social class of the parents at the time of treatment (the survey this study based on had asked about the subject's own social class in the year 2015. This is important information to be sure, but less relevant as a confounding factor). Access or use of psychiatric services at the time of transition was not accounted for at all.

And note how I underline the word ideations? because it is the sole thing that the researcher found. CNN irresponsibly claims "if (transgender youths) have access to a puberty blocker, their chances of suicide and mental health problems in the immediate term and down the road decline significantly", but this is wrong. Puberty blockade are only associated with fewer suicide thoughts; the recipients' chance of planning a suicide, or actually committing self-harm or suicide, were NOT reduced (Table 2 of the paper). Block-receivers report less "past-month severe psychological distress" than non block-receivers, but the result did not hold up to multivariate analysis (i.e. when you factor in social class, income, etc).

The TL;DR: GnRH agonists are at best feel-good drugs. They haven't been shown to save lives.​

Prof Selina Todd, a historian who specialises in the lives of women and the working class, said that she has now been provided with “routine security” to ensure she is not attacked.

The academic - who has been accused of being a “transphobe” for her involvement in women’s rights advocacy – was told by her students that she was potentially in danger.

“Two students came to see me and said they were very worried that threats had been made to me on email networks they were part of,” Prof Todd told The Telegraph.

“The university investigated the threats and came back to me to say their intelligence on them is such that they are providing me security for all of my lecturers for the rest of this year. They said 'you're having two men in the rest of your lectures'.”

At her most recent undergraduate lecture, a handful of students arrived in trans activists T-shirts, who she believed had come to cause trouble.

But the presence of “two big burly guys” at the back of the lecture theatre was likely to have put them off from any protests, she added.

Prof Todd said that transgender activists started making complaints about her on the basis that her teaching of feminist history was “transphobic”.

“My research suggests that women who posed as men in the past were often lesbians seeking to protect themselves, or because they want to do jobs that were only available to men,” she said.

“The first complaint that was made against me was to say that I was transphobic because it would be impossible for a transgender student to be taught by me.”

Prof Todd said that the history faculty now receives “daily” complaints from activists calling for her to be sacked, which has left her feeling unnerved.

“I get frightened by the threats in lectures,” she said. “You can't help but worry. It's had a huge impact on me. You don’t expect to be defending yourself the whole time from complaints or threats of violence.”

She said that the history faculty have been hugely supportive of her, including referring her for counselling to help deal with the stress.

But Prof Todd urged the university to take a stronger stance in disciplining students who are making threats and malicious complaints against her.

“It would be far more helpful if the university could take robust action against the people making these threats in the first place,” she said.

Earlier this week an Oxford college rowed back on its code of conduct for a transgender discussion following criticism that it was closing down free speech.

Merton College was accused of adopting a “draconian” stance over its plans to host a discussion about transgender issues which bans “language which denies the validity of trans identity”.

Yet in order to reserve a place at the event, attendees must sign up to a code of conduct which states they must “refrain from using language or putting forward views intended to undermine the validity of trans and gender diverse identities”.

Following an outcry from academics, the College removed the code of conduct from the event page and replaced it with a statement in support of free speech.

An Oxford University spokesman said: “We cannot comment on individual arrangements. However when staff raise concerns with us, the university will always review the circumstances and offer appropriate support to ensure their safety and their freedom of expression.”

It's been shown time and again "suicide ideation" on a survey form means attention whoring and doesn't correlate with suicide attempts at all. IIRC it doesn't even correlate with unprompted self-reported suicidal ideation.

Serious answer: I've seen a growing backlash to the uniform, pornified instathot/Kardashian look. A lot of young girls see the only model of "how to be a girl in current year" is "wearing a pound of makeup daily, with a plastic surgery face + ass, pouting into a filtered camera," and don't want to follow that path.

If they're sensible, they go "wait, that's dumb, I don't have to do all that instagram bullshit to be a girl," and pursue something like the VSCO girl look: comfortable clothes, minimal makeup, etc., but still unmistakably female.
