I'm watching the press conference now and there are some interesting things.

There are 59 hospitals acting as fever clinics in the Wuhan region. Yesterday they received more than 10k patients. This lady then says each hospital had 1174 patients per hospital, which is too many for that 10k figure. Then she says that off those >1k per hospital, a bit over 300 will be kept for observation.

Okay, so the 22,000 and 10,000 from the two Chinese health broadcasts weren't mistranslations: they just couldn't keep their fake story straight.

Idk about other countries, but the CDC stated that they made careful decisions about who to test. e.g. whether or not you've been thru Wuhan or are in close contact w someone who has and have reported pneumonia-like symptoms. so the amount of testing being done seems very conservative. also concerning to me that a number of cases seem to exist in this perpetual limbo of being "under investigation" or "pending" when they should already have access to the results, while they mainly just announce cases which are cleared.

"close contact" has been defined by at least one set of Western health officials as "sitting right next to" a potential carrier, but we know that droplets can travel throughout the plane or terminal: I worry about the lack of testing being done.

However it seems to me that more and more people are genuinely being afraid of new disease or waiting for an apocalypse. I'd understand if all of you lived in China and worrying (as they should, tbh), but people panicking in the US? So much confusion.. are people being dead serious or it's a mere irony? or both?

Is this how this world will end? Not by an asteroid impact, rise of AI machines, coming of the second Hitler or good old nuclear Holocaust.. no. Six thousand years of human civilisation comes to the end because of a fucking bat soup ingested by some random chink..

He's just pointing out the oddities in the data that need resolving. Honestly, given the replies I got regarding my query regarding the "broken arrow" hypothesis ... I wouldn't worry about it. The chances are very low of being true and there's no way of knowing if it is true without a whisleblower coming forward, another low chance prospect.

A related problem is, if this gets any bigger, long term, given the CCP's history of misinformation and spin and the Pollyanna-like attitude of Western authorities will make trust in those agencies harder and allow the correct information they give out be less accepted.

It reminds me a lot of the 2009 Swine Flu pandemic. Everyone was freaking out just like this. But it's important to be prepared and aware and voicing your fear to others can sometimes be a comfort.

Yeah me and my bff are preppers but more “preppers lite” not full on bunker. Supplies, filters, guns, and long range communications not dependent on existing infrastructure for worse case. Have meet up points for certain scenarios and it’s basically like “if there’s shit we need after a month everything is fucked so good thing we have this fuck off land with mines we made after the event” obviously different for say a flood, but you get the idea.

Our SOs know were not crazy just ready and it’s come in handy before (not going to power level of which event). Most people aren’t ready to live for more than a few days. Also as mentioned before never mention shit to anyone because then you’re a target for the unprepared or prepared with only a gun people.

quick edit: you can get away with just an ar15 upper and fire control group if a friend will let you cast their lower. I’ve had quickly casted lowers last me 500 rounds. If you’re 3D printing you could use that but splurge for nylonx and it’s basically what the modern polymer guns are made of. So you’ll be fine or cast the printed lower for more resin lowers. Honestly most people would be good with a pawnshop shotgun if you’re going for dirt cheap and effective.

I agree with that. As some mentioned before, it's just a common sense to be prepared. In some countries schoolchildren are taught to disassemble an automatic rifle and stop arterial bleeding, so majority of country's population would be prepared in times of disasters. It just baffled me that a country who had a way bigger threat for half a century would so easily be scared by a disease.

In some countries schoolchildren are taught to disassemble an automatic rifle and stop arterial bleeding, so majority of country's population would be prepared in times of disasters. It just baffled me that a country who had a way bigger threat for half a century would so easily be scared by a disease

Growing up with that is WHY I stock supplies and learned all that good stuff.

It isn't that I'm scared of a little disease, I'm just prepared for whatever I can prepare for.

I came back to let you all know I got to Target right before closing to pick up my order and decided to grab some milk, eggs and ground beef. I go to the self check out and an Asian guy beats me to it. He sees my gloves and mask then gives me a dirty look and I have to use the terminal right next to him. I scan, bag and pay in a hurry and go to an empty area to shove everything into my pack then douse myself in Purell-my hands, the pack and even my phone before leaving and catching the subway home (I don't even sit down) and douse myself with Purell again. I strip and throw my clothes in the washing machine. We don't wear shoes in the apartment and keep them outside the door.

I'm not doing this again until we get an idea how this affects NYC and the USA. I have enough food, MREs and water to last a month and the cats got a case of Fancy Feast/100 lbs of cat litter last week. I just hope our idiot mayor doesn't kill us all by pandering to his diversity coalition instead of being proactive/quaranting WuFlu carriers until its too late.

The cloud had a significant impact over scandinavia and we were not allowed to eat welsh lamb for a long time after. I think you can still pick up iodine isotopes in the welsh highlands.
