Great, more work

You know what people did way back when this kind of thing happened? People self quarantined, entire cities and towns closed themselves off without a central authority telling them anything and it was surprisingly effective if done early enough. No way the world economy cheerleaders will ever let that happen so let's hope a treatment for this is found fast.

Peruvian and chilean students are stuck in Wuhan, while Peru will activate an alert thingy in the international airport Jorge Chávez in case passengers (from China's quarantined zones) arrive. The links are in spanish:

German update: Three more cases, all colleagues of the first infected German.

Coronavirus - Drei weitere Fälle in Bayern

Updating with abbreviated translation:

Coronavirus - Three further cases in Bavaria (29.01.2020, 00:29 local time)

The health ministry in Bavaria has confirmed that the three new infected persons had contact with the first.

The first was infected during a company training session with a colleague from China, who hadn't shown symptoms at the time, but was diagnosed with the virus shortly after returning to China.

All four German cases work for the same company. First person has been isolated.

Anyone who has had contact with German patient zero is being looked into. This includes 40 people and a kindergarten.

This is the first confirmed case of person-to-person transfer in Europe, perhaps the first outside of Asia.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rest of the article talks about how the company of the infected people is ceasing travel to China for two weeks, a further but unlikely case in some place called Port Bremen, and updated statistics from China.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Personal anecdote: FFP3 (N95 equivalent, I think) and stronger masks are starting to be unavailable in pharmacies and hardware stores online. Shitty eBay sellers are offering "Coronavirus Kits" consisting of dubiously useful masks and el cheapo woodworking glasses.

Kansas City has it.

EDIT: Another article about the same person. (Thanks to @1Tonka_Truck for pointing it out)

Welp, time to check the inventory sheets. I'm low on rice, potatoes, canned meat, flour, bottled water, masks, filters, and everything else after the move and donating. Bummer for me that my stocks are real low and I sold all my firearms so I wasn't transferring them across State lines. Doesn't help that I went boating with a friend at night and lost my ammo.

:*sigh*:

Wish I was better prepared in case this all goes tits up.

Possible virus in Kansas at Topeka

That's two articles about the same patient. The one says Topeka probably because that's where the state health department should be headquartered.

Me? No. I'm just a crazy dude in Oregon.

Welp, it's me. I'm the tard. LOL.

On a more serious note, that ASU tweet thing looks like the first of what we're gonna see. More and more colleges and universities with overly stringent attendance policies allowing infected students to infect the student body during classes and in dorms because otherwise they might miss out the sweet sweet Pollution Goblin bucks. Then, when outed that there's people with it on campus, pressuring students (and probably faculty) to delete the information so that they can keep going on as usual, then <Surprise Picachu Face> when a shitload of their students get sick.

Just doing some old war-gaming thunks, it bothers me to realize that rather than think about public safety, more and more Universities will do the same thing, fucking companies will do the same thing by forcing workers to come in even if sick (That's why sick leave was invented. If Corona-Chan goes from dancing on a stripper pole to ballroom dancing, afterwards, we might see the return of sick leave even in entry-level jobs), and nations and countries won't want to appear racist while they shelter the rich and lucky fleeing China, with the anti-vaxxers deliberately infecting their kids AND unassimilated immigrants refusing to go to the hospital while the generational inhabitants of Gibsmedatstan flood the hospitals for every sniffle and get infected before bringing it back to their community combined with their mistrust of "The Man" and half of this shit might be our own doing. Add in Peach Mints and stupidity infecting the American government, fears of "racist" and wanting to suck Pollution Goblin cock for as long as possible to get the most money by our various Western governments, and it's just looking great for the common person, who the government is supposed to protect.

Might as well play Plague Inc. on Easy from how it fucking looks.

Welp, either way, we'll see what happens.

Gotta give it to Corona-Chan, she's dancing her ass off and working that stripper pole for all it's worth.

Samoa during the 1918 flu pandemic was split into two colonies: West Samoa and American Samoa. The former was recently captured by New Zealand from the Germans, and was home to plantations, while American Samoa was run the US Navy via a nonsense captain. When the flu came, Western Samoa kept the borders open while American Samoa went under lockdown.

The result? Western Samoa was the hardest hit of any country in the world with 20-25% of people dying, while American Samoa was one of the few country not to get hit.

Source 1 Source 2 - "Of course there was a disaster. Some people will think that it occurred in West Samoa. Others will think that the real disaster was in American Samoa."

According to this guy there is fighting in fujian.
Though i'm not sure if the guy in the video is speaking Chinese
This isn't the only uprising happening right now.

The problem is not the plague, it's the lack of food and supplies.

Might see a resurgence of yellow ribbon and "INFECTED INSIDE" signs on houses, along with towns putting up roadblocks with "Keep on going" signs.

Like I said back on like Friday or Saturday...

Gonna be interesting in about 72-96 hours.

See, the world runs on Zero-Inventory principals. The back stockroom is extremely thin nowadays and even the distribution centers in the city are pretty stock thin. Land is cheaper in the country and it's cheaper and easier to run stock via semi into the city to refill inventory than have a huge warehouse where the property taxes on that warehouse are more per year than it would be to buy another whole warehouse 100 miles away.

Most major cities nowadays don't have much more than 3-5 days of food, in the entire city, for the population, and that includes if you rob the vending machines. I remember reading a FEMA report in the late 90's warning that very fact could end up causing problems in the case of a major disaster and suggested several different ways to the Clinton Administration for handling it.

Then the hurricane during the Bush Administration proved that the Clinton Administration, or at least the Louisiana government, didn't pay attention to fuck all.

It's going to be interesting to see if all the money Obama poured into FEMA went into ensuring logistic chains remain tight for FEMA and the US military, or if it all got poured into gold doorknobs and indoor golf courses at Raven Rock.

I'm looking forward to seeing the spin when all this is over.

I think the main line is going to be nonsense like this. "Yes, China stopped the virus, and yes, this was despite the fact that the virus originated there and thus they couldn't have stopped it just by closing the borders to Chinamen, but they were mean and didn't respect the freedom of movement of people carrying a novel virus, so, that's bad."

FINALLY heard back from CDC. Came thirty minutes ago.

Here's the text of the email.

Thank you for contacting CDC-INFO.

We hope you find the following information about coronavirus treatment helpful.

There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for 2019-nCoV infection. People infected with 2019-nCoV should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions.

People who think they may have been exposed to 2019-nCoV should contact your healthcare provider immediately.

This information can also be found on CDC’s website at URL: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html

Well, the question's been asked and answered.

US drug makers are sending antivirals to China to see if and how they work. So people in China and the USA believe there's a chance something will be effective.

U.S. Drugmakers Send Antiviral Drugs To China To Assess Treatment Effectiveness Against Coronavirus
Jan 28, 2020

Wall Street Journal: U.S. Drugmakers Ship Therapies to China, Seeking to Treat Coronavirus
“U.S. drugmakers are shipping antiviral drugs to Chinese health authorities to assess whether the medicines could help contain the explosion of respiratory virus infections sweeping the country. … There are no vaccines or drugs approved anywhere in the world specifically for the new coronavirus, prompting health authorities to explore repurposing untested antivirals in a desperate effort to help contain an outbreak that has been spreading rapidly in China and has appeared in more limited cases overseas…” (Hopkins/McKay, 1/27).

Additional coverage of efforts to find treatments and vaccines for the novel coronavirus is available from Bloomberg and Science.
Knowing China, the anti-virals most likely won't be used for clinical trials like they should be. These things are going to be thrown around the country with no regard to tracking or monitoring who the anti-virals were administered to. Who knows, we many get a new strain out of it.

Imagine a whole generation of gender studies students lost to us. I can see it now "I felt a great disturbance in the farce, like a million xe/xer or whatever reeee'd in terror and were slowly silenced as they drowned from the fluid in their lungs".
