BREAKING: World Health Organization declares new coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern

It's hilarious hearing people on TV abbreviating it as PHEIC and pronouncing it "fake".

I don't think codeine cough syrup contributes to the alleged opioid epidemic at all. You don't even really get high from that. That's horrible.
Look up lean - people do abuse it, but the way shit is in a lot of states doctors are afraid to even prescribe it. Like a lot of hospitals have a policy of no take home opioids at all unless you have cancer with a small bit of wiggle room. Also whoever asked about meds being expired - it depends on the meds, but most are fine expired and at most experience a loss of potency. The military had a large stash of some meds and instead of tossing them they tested them and extended the shelf life on the label.

Obviously every med will be different, but even if you break it down by family you can see some are very stable (I’m talking basically no noticeable loss in potency in 50years) whereas others are still safe, but they’re going to lose a percentage of how effective they are every year.

So about that dude who was in the WHO news conference to declare public health emergency...

Don't got subscription, anyone wanna archive it?

Edit: Also, fucking lmfao. Of all the people you chose to break the news and try to assuage the worries of the people, you had to pick the dude who has a history of lying.

Yeah, this guy is taking big ass bribes from the CCP. Covering up something that was killing his fellow countrymen was NBD. The rest of the world, lol whatever.

The previous WHO director Margaret Chan had a long record of wtf moments and mishandling events including saying North Korea's medical system would be the envy of the world because of an abundance of medical staff and that they were doing great because of an abscence of obesity .... hardly unusual in areas that suffer famines and have ongoing food shortages.

I'm getting real tired of media articles contantly calling it the "deadly new virus"

How is it deadly? Because it killed people?

Announcing the deadly new toyota corolla

Announcing the deadly new heineken bottle

News of the deadly boeing 747 landed safely in new york after it's scheduled daily flight.

The common cold is a deadly old virus?

800 old chinese people dead. That's not deadly, that's below average. Everyone is freaking the fuck out over this because five people died last night out of the new thousand infected, smh.

The WHO praising China? The same China that did nothing for over a month? The same one that has left their doctors and nurses to die by undersupplying them with necessary materials? The China that completely fucking panicked once they realized that their international reputation would be damaged?

How much funding do they get from the CCP?

They really were! - It was in today's WHO-"Situation report" and the proceedings somewhat reek of the process of finding a new pope:

"WHO recommends that the interim name of the disease causing the current outbreak should be “2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease” (where ‘n’ is for novel and ‘CoV’ is for coronavirus). This name complies with the WHO Best Practices for Naming of New Human Infectious Diseases, which were developed through a consultative process among partner agencies. Endorsement for the interim name is being sought from WHO’s partner agencies, World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The final name of the disease will be provided by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). WHO is also proposing ‘2019-nCoV’ as an interim name of the virus. The final decision on the official name of the virus will be made by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. " Situation report 20200130
So they want to call it the "2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease." Do you think they realized that the acronym for that is "2019-nard?"

It may be old slang, but this is why you always double-check your acronyms.

the only good thing i'm seeing is that as the death and infection keep rising so too does the recovery number so at least there's a chance to catch it and come out of it alive.

Are you tellin' me that people have immune systems?

From a provider standpoint, China's been pretty open about what's going on with their infectees. The only thing unusual I noticed is the really low lymphocyte count in the lab work. Otherwise it seems just like particularly virulent hell pneumonia.

This is far to unwieldy to be used in popular conversation, in any language. Probably people will refer to it has the "Wuhan flu/virus" or the "corona[virus]" even if they are inaccurate.

China virus turns Macau into gambling ghost town

"However, the outbreak also coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday during which Macau seasonally enjoys record visitation, prompting analysts to forecast a decline in gaming revenue of at least 30% for as long as visiting restrictions are in place."

Coronavirus update: First U.S. case of person-to-person transmission confirmed, 195 U.S. citizens in isolation and WHO declares a public health emergency

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier on Thursday had confirmed the first U.S. case of person-to-person spread of coronavirus, among a married couple in Illinois."

"The first U.S. residents to be diagnosed with the coronavirus had all recently traveled to Wuhan. There are now 21 people under investigation in Illinois and a total of 165 under investigation in the U.S., according to the CDC."

Gambling is the most powerful addictive behavior on Earth, surpassing heroin in all respects. Plague is the cure to gambling. The House does not win when WuFlu rolls the dice.

Notice the use of the term "under investigation" in the second article and how it differs from "suspected" used to describe patients in other articles. We do Contact Tracing in the United States. Our diseases have been decriminalized, unlike other places in this drama.
