Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I do and what this one tells me is that it's bullshit. Or more concretely, that it's not infections being measured for corona-chan, it's detections. Anyone that's studied statistics can tell you this one. That is too fast for any virus, when you see a graph like this it means they started measuring there but this shit was in the background for weeks, maybe even months. The CCP has seriously fucked up this time and China will suffer from it, infectious diseases aren't to be trifled with.
It’s also that SARS just didn’t infect many people so the jump up the y looks huge. Plot an average seasonal flu on that as well, and maybe if you can find decent numbers for a really bad flu year and see how it compares.
It will be interesting to see what the curve looks like in April or May. It’s going to take us a few weeks minimum to really see what we are dealing with here.

Oh, no! The Virus has won!

We are all going to DIE! (well, except for me, I am NBC protected).

One technically good thing about this whole thing that came at the expense of all these lives is that my relatives finally shut the fuck up on how China is taking over the world and all that r/sino shit.

Had an uncle keep recommending me inhouse legal counselling in China once he knew I was getting ready to migrate after getting my kicks practicing law. Kinda makes me wonder why he didn't come to the family reunion dinner this year.

Das raciss
No seriously, anyone memeing the hazmat suit is a far-right wing troll from 4chan
“A good way of spotting racist dickheads is by looking for the people who photoshopped hazmat suits on their avatars,” EyesOnTheRight wrote.

Reminds me of that study that supposedly found a link between the strength of the disgust reflex and political alignment. Seems pretty spot on, these days.

Nice to see that Germany also has hospitals trying to argue for more funding an manpower because outlier events that happen once in a century.
more as an excuse to get some money since a lot of them have shit funding and personnel getting paid shit with shit work hours. the minister is also a sped. there's a reason why a lot of doctors move abroad.

Same family? Odds on it's a couple of Chinese tourists.
I bet we’ll be seeing a lot more of these types of situation as time goes on. Chinese healthcare is shit, and self-entitled people would much rather go somewhere in the West for treatment and risk spreading the disease to us, than probably die in a Chinese medical facility. It really is unfortunate that the Chinese government is so against foreign help as I’m sure many western countries would be willing to send resources and personnel if it would prevent the infection from coming here.

Just a small update from Germany:

The airforce just got the clearance from China to launch the flight and the airplane launched. They'll bring back around 130 people - 90 Germans and 40 of "other citizenships". They'll arrive on Saturday and will be brought to the barracks in Gemersheim - which is near Mannheim - and have to stay in quarantine for 14 days there. They also have to pay a part of the flight back, the amount will probably be the cost of an economy flight ticket.

From a message I received not too long ago. The source isn't confirmed but the information isn't outlandish.

Feel free it post this in the thread. I don't want it being associated anyway with me even though risk is low being traced back but never know. Chose you because you posted everyone's favorite south African youtuber that comments on China.

The China situation is way worse than they are reporting. I work in the medical device industry, therefore have direct knowledge of order flow. China started purchasing like crazy more than three weeks ago (there is some noise there due to cny stocking)

China is full of second and third tier hospitals. These basically operate as you would expect hospitals in the west to have been in the 70s, I.e. little modern therapies

They are scrambling to buy devices and the accessories.
The problem is that what they need is high level equipment - a good ventilator for respiratory issues costs $10,000-20,000 (avg stay in ICU per day in china would cost about $2k per patient under normal circumstances). Distributors don't sit on stock and manufacturers are obviously not sitting on huge builds (maybe 3 months global supply) and China needs tens of thousands to modernise. The good news is that most manufacturing of reputable companies is still done in the developed world (e.g GE and Philips and German outfits) so assembly won't be impacted by china new year. China has currently suspended their normal import controls on medical devices. If you have a us (fda) or eu medical device license on the product they will let you import right now no questions asked right now. This is a massive concession.
The bad news is that manufacturers are going to get screwed soon as the supply chain has large ties to china that is out of their control (particularly for electronic components and sum-assembly like pcbs) and quarantining will impact supply.
China can build all the hospitals they want as fast as they can but it is pretty useless if you can't equip them and have trained staff operate them.

People that shout about influenza causing hundreds of thousands of cases per year are missing the bigger picture. Influenza is largely contained in modern systems that can support it through modern therapies.
China is nowhere near there - even if manufacturing can meet Chinas most basic needs now it will crowd out purchases western countries currently expect. Replacement capital purchases will have to be deferred, as well as potentially fewer accessories/consumables, that will mean developed nation's hospitals may have to pick and choose who they treat.
There is going to be indirect casualties.

Yesterday I was watching a CSI Miami episode where some dumb cunt gets killed by eating lettuce apparently infected with E.Coli, this made me remember the whole fuzz about "Biosludge". To be brief about this, basically agricultural lobbyists and the US goverment using solid biological waste from city's sewer system and selling them as "Bio-Friendly" fertilizer which contains over 80.000 different chemicals ranging from birth control shit to industrial chemicals. For anyone interested about this, look in here.

I remember a metion that large cities often "sell" their sewage to any fertilizer producers and then ship them all over the country. To give you an idea, someone buying a fertilzier bag in Texas which could end up fertilizing his garden with shit from NY or Chicago.

Wonder if this or ANY type of disease with similar characteristics could grow in any sewage of a major city and then be spread by naive people using that same shit as fertilizer.
The Shanghai Concessions sold their shit inland to make a quick buck in the 1930s.
