What the fuck Vice and Twitter told me wanting to ban the Chinese is yellow peril and Orientalism. It's so sad how Asians have such internalized racist views! Have they even read Robin Diangelo?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the new coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency after the death toll in China rose to 213 on Friday, with 9,692 confirmed cases in the country's 31 provincial-level regions.

An Air India flight service will evacuate Indians stuck in the city Wuhan due to the outbreak of the virus.

The new virus, which is of the same genre as SARS which broke out in 2003, was first reported in the WHO Disease Outbreak News on January 5, 2020.

It has progressively spread across many countries from its epicentre in Wuhan.

Christ, I just got back from the bank and overheard the dumbest conversation regarding the Wu-Flu. Some Chinese lady is in line and one of the tellers leaves his desk to talk to her. The tellers talking to her about how his brother is following the news regarding the outbreak, but Mr. teller doesn't believe any of it, and that it's all just casual racism. I've never seen anyone with such a look of contempt like that Chinese lady.

I think that we won't start to see how effective quarantines, flight suspensions,and travel bans are until next week at earliest. If this virus can incubate 14 days, and the quarantines didn't start until last week and travel bans until this week, the slowdown that would result is at least 10-14 days away. The last of the people who left china before the border closed/travel was suspended will be screen and some will turn up positive, and their contacts traced. This is how we are finding the new international cases, and the limited local transmission in very close contact. By killing the chains of transmission here, the kibosh on new international cases would kick in about a week and a half from now to coincide with the cessation of travel. Then, the focus would be on keeping it in china and controlling it on a province by province basis. Most of the cases and deaths are in one province of China,Hubei. I have cautious optimism a full blown pandemic can be averted at this stage of the game, but in any eventuality, China is going to bear the brunt of it.

I wonder how long until you are considered virus free when you recover, and when are you no longer contangious. I also wonder about how robust immunity is to this virus, as if the recovered people become immune the chains of transmission will start to fragment more because the virus can't be passed to them again. Those can be big factors as to the virus spreads.

I hear you. Unfortunately, don't believe China's statistics at all. Believe things are much worse. Remember, this country is ruled by a regime that puts their image over the welfare of their people.

Another possible source of supplies may be the People's Armed Police, paramilitaries. Not as numerous as the PLA but they are deployed nation-wide. Could have medical supplies stocked for contingencies such as putting down revolts/rebellions, etc. In my opinion at a time like this most governments would say, "Open the warehouses, get as much as we can to the people, get stuff out of deep storage, tell Contracting to activate line items in contracts with suppliers or turn on those contingency contracts. They're three shifts, seven days until we tell them not to, and get the shit out the door as soon as produced." Most governments will have contractual agreements of this type. Not real esoteric. A little power level - spent five years in acquisition management with some contracting on the side. The basic types of contracts are the same anywhere you go. But we're dealing with the CCP here.
