Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

This is all stuff we knew about weeks ago, isn't it?

No. The one we've known about for weeks is the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which is the level 4 lab about 20 miles away and may be a bioweapons lab. This one is a different lab. The Wuhan or Chinese Center for Disease Control. A straight up Medical research lab. It's across the street and down a block from the Wet Market. Is attached to the hospital that first saw cases and had large numbers of staff infected. And is specifically working on SARS type coronaviruses using live bats. And they have recent incidents of people being bitten. People coming in skin contact with bat blood, and people finding ticks on themselves, likely from the bats. At least two staffers did a voluntary 2 week quarantine before the Wu Flu became known.

Hmmm? There are reports that there is a second lab in Wuhan. The Wuhan CDC. The lab works with live bats studying sars like coronavirus. Has had several breaches involving bites, blood or live ticks resulting in staff quarantine, is 200 yards from the Wet Market and adjacent to the first hospital hit.

Hmmmm?

Wow, people are finally catching on, huh?

I mean, you could have gotten a researcher that got scratched, wasn't wearing proper PPE, didn't report exposure or was incompetent and didn't even know he was exposed. I hope it comes out as truth. China's reputation on the world stage would be fucking obliterated.

Wouldn’t surprise me. Animals dont sit still and let you inject them happily. They wriggle, and small animals like mice can pretty much turn around in their skin and bite you. Everyone who works with mice gets bitten, it’s just how it is. No idea with bats, I wouldn’t touch the buggers with a barge pole. It’s also very easy to slip and shove a needle in yourself, or a hundred other little injuries.
No one should be getting ticks or skin contact with blood though in a lab environment. Pulling bats from the wild and being slack enough to have them still have ticks and transfer to humans is not good news. You shouldn’t be using wild caught anything as a lab model. You isolate a sample from the wild THEN infect your lab raised, ‘clean’ animal.
I don’t believe this was an engineered bioweapon. It’s possible, but I don’t think it’s likely. My money is on either accidental release of a studied sample or something brought into the market.
I can imagine a scenario where the early whistleblowers raised the alarm, were ignored and finally when they managed to get Beijing to pay attention someone sent a sequence to the lab/s and got back an ‘oh shit’ response. At that point the heavy handed central response started and we go from there. It’s clear than from early January they were aware that this was serious. The CCP has been aware that this was potential bad news from early on.
I wonder if we will ever know what actually happened?

Especially if they knew ahead of time. No wonder they are strong arming the WHO into following CCP talking points. The pitchforks around the world will come out if its confirmed this was a virus that escaped from one of their labs. That alone is bad enough, but if it turns out they knew back in December that a breach had occured and didn't say anything China is going to be cast out of the good boy club really fast.

Even then, the WHO will praise China for going batshit insane and accomplishing nothing other than implementing brutal authoritarian tactics that do nothing other than pretend to maintain face.

Working with live research animals, even with the best will in the world, accidents can still happen.

There have been multiple deaths after primate researchers contracted primate herpes viruses, including Monkey Herpes B which has a massive death rate in humans. Really nasty stuff. It's carried by macacque monkeys and doesn't seem to affect them that much but it can and will easily kill a human. One young woman died at a US lab in 1997 after an animal carrying it splashed a single drop of saliva or urine in her eye. Primates carry some really ugly stuff that is deadly tohumans, it's part of the reason why eating them or keeping them as pets is moronically dumb. Grow remotely lax in your handling of research animals and awful shit occurs. There was another infection from the same virus contracted by a lab worker in Japan last year:

There have been mistakes made at various labs and universities not in silly places like China that have resulted in deaths. The last person to die of smallpox in the UK, forty-something years ago, was a university-based female medical photographer with an office above a shitty smallpox-handling research lab (that fell far below WHO standards and was due to be closed down) who mysteriously contracted it despite not working with the disease at all. There had been an almost identical incident with a male photographer from the same unit some ten years earlier. although his case was a very mild one. They think the female photographer somehow it got through a crapily-built air system although some contest that, while offering no solid evidence for any other route of transmission. Absolutely frightening how a small error, carelessness, laziness, poor lab maintainance or design can put people in so much danger.

Knowing what I do about the priorities and odd attitudes in China, i'm amazed more hasn't got out of one of those labs. Probably infections are generally covered up there as and when they occur.

Our best friend and ally the glorious state of israel introduces mandatory 14 day quarantine for anyone coming from thailand, singapore, macao and hong kong on top of chinas

The news are telling Thailand have only 34 cases of which 14 recovered what the isrealis know that the goyim doesnt ? :cunningpepe:

You didn't include HK, but I've came across HKers that like to eat fried bugs. Centipedes, millipedes, spiders... ehhh
I like spiders (not eating them!!!) and the idea of eating centipedes makes my skin crawl, hard pass for me.

S.E. Asians have an appetites for all kinds of weird shit. This channel covers some of it. This one is quite gross but there are even grosser things being eaten with gusto on there.

If I had to guess, it's mainly for people after mandatory military service who go around traveling shit hole places in Asia and might caught the disease while traveling.

I've eaten rabbit (tasty), frog legs (meh), tree snails, conch snails, octopus, squid, sea urchin, plenty of smaller animals or weird animals. Squirrel used to be a pretty common meat back in the day in the US; it's the traditional meat used in Brunswick stew. The trick, I guess, is that I'm relatively sure all of the animals I ate were farmed and not just grabbed randomly on the side of a road, and aren't traditional carriers of whole legions of diseases. If the opportunity arises to eat some gator or rattlesnake meat, I'd take it just to see if they're any good. But again, alligators and snakes aren't known for triggering plagues throughout humanity. You don't have to only eat cows and chicken to be safe when consuming meat, you just have to be dealing with actual competent people who prepare it safely and aren't just some asshole running a shack on a street corner.

This is quite incredible.
Paper out of a Chinese institute, or am I reading that wrong? They are basically saying it’s from the lab near the market. Interesting that it’s from within China - I assume that CCP has control over such publications? So CCP has allowed this to be published...

Wasn’t the Prime Minister of Thailand making a big show of “masks are for wusses” and “no nothing to see here!“ proclamations a week or so ago. It’s pretty obvious they are covering up or ignoring it.

This is quite incredible.

I think that means Beijing is gearing up for a wholesale scapegoating of the locals.

Did you, by any chance, save a copy? The pdf seems to have been taken down.

excuse my exceptionally bad hegelianism here but war (death) is the method by which humanity (or any complex system) ultimately learns - though the point is somewhat tautological in the sense that all living (complex) systems are evolutionary. "not everything that happens will happen for a reason, but everything that survives will survive for a reason."
communism & socialism will not "die" until they are "killed" in outright, full-on war - just like fascism, slavery, absolutism and the old-style monarchical systems, etc. people today continue to believe them because something something bioleninism.

corona-chan will force humanity to learn a bit about heavy global centralization, and perhaps (🌈) will force the chinese citizenry to think about their own level of centralization, the same centralization which built a now-underwater hospital due to rain (can't find the video ITT atm) in only six days. thank you, CCP, very cool!

some countries will "get" it, some won't. i highly doubt the US (i.e., the elites who run the US) will get the message because they are invariably insulated from the costs, just like with deindustralization, heavy immigration legal and extralegal both suppressing wages, the ever-expanding welfare state allowing the dissolution family units of all sizes (UBI will be the big ticket for 2024-2028 i would imagine), failing infrastructure, etc. something something lack of skin in the game and so on and so on.

It depends how bad it is at the end. I don't know what X is, but if X people die because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Grass Roots level backlash against Chinese goods.

Which is what needs to happen for the importation of goods made with slave labor to stop. I get it's easy to blame the elites but at the end of the day it's the consumer that drives the economy. We know iPhones and Nikes are made with child labor, they still sell and get endorsed by the most "woke" among us. Gervais had a funny bit about this.

I trust the Israelis on this because they’re one of the few western countries that still gives a shit about their people. They know like we know that the reports of coronavirus are being downplayed to save face and preserve their fragile economies that require high growth to survive.

I heard crocodiles taste like chicken

It's pretty oily, and to me the taste and texture was equal parts chicken and fish.

Fugu licences for chefs are issued by the respective prefectures and not all are transferrable to other prefectures - I know Tokyo issued ones are though. The toxin accumulates (mainly in the liver but in all organs and skin as well) because pufferfish diet consists mainly of shellfish which harbour the tetrodotoxin - farmed fugu contain no toxin (and that's no fun, so farmed fugu isn't really a thing).
It's really only the tiger puffer that is deadly, the silver fugu etc just make your lips, tongue and finger tips tingle/numb a little. And it's nothing special taste-wise imo.

Thank you Dr purr, very cool.
