That's basically what it is. They identify all the "traits" of being female as material things like clothes, hair, etc. They can't literally become a female but they can try and replicate through those things, so those become the focus. It's that extra step beyond "normal weird" like crossdressing. You can tell it in how they describe it, especially the whole doing it in secret and getting caught (which they want) and so on about being shamed for it yet how good it felt. If they simply liked dressing in women's clothing for a fetish they could be more honest and open about it. Even if it would be an awkward conversation with their wife. But they really do want to just replace them with themselves rather than it be the more simple fetish.

The one guy above describing all the aspects of it is a good example, it wasn't just putting on his wife/mom's panties. It's doing all the tucking, seeing his "mangina' plus all the other shit he describes like roleplaying as women characters. If it was just about wearing women's clothing as a fetish he'd jack off and be done with it, but instead it's one part of a much larger thing.

I first ran into this kind of theorizing from an interview with a drag performer who was pointing out they don't want to be women, they just want to dress as women. There may be something to the idea that this is all it was at one point but the troon's... uh... unique environmental factors led it to developing into more. It is a vent sub after all. All the things she's saying are things I've heard from detransitioned fakebois countless times before. If there's one thing you can glean from this thread, it's that trans "spaces" (read: echochambers) are filled with belligerent, narcissistic, and/or horny language and literally almost nothing else. She's absolutely right about how trans communities online enable anger and perversion, and I don't blame her for getting sick of it.
