Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Wuflu will give us a future where 99 percent of of the world's population will be Amazonian muscle women with perfect immunity to everything.
Or the grannies at the end of ‘mad max, Fury Road.’ Immune, able to produce canned goods, work an allotment, and a crack shot with a firearm.
It could be worse...

Comfy at home today, since apparently I won't work for a week, so I took advantage of the day off to go to the clinic and retrieve the results of my RMI. All the clerks at the counter wore latex gloves (last week they didn't). Later, my sister called me to tell me that today she went to the hospital for a blood test, and all the nurses wore goggles and masks in addition to the usual gloves.

Meanwhile, apparently the other European countries think about Italian government as a bunch of paranoid crazies, because the coronavirus should be treated like a normal flu.

At this point, I'd just like to avoid nuisances caused by other people's incompetence and lack of common sense.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but everyone's favorite Youtube Doctor (and medical alarmist if you're the type to panic easily,) has posted a video about Corona-chan:

He links to some other YT vids covering it. Also, apparently the right way to say Wuhan is Ooo-han, if you're a native speaker.
I like the "As Described By Doctors In China" that means we should take it with a chunk of salt.
Are the Chinese health workers (pre-corona) as effective as described, or it's the case where the victims are rich enough to get a treatment that's comparable to a western country?

Confirmed infection in Afghanistan at Herat. Now we'll really get to see how the Taliban and other groups handle it besides the government.

It's spreading more in the middle east.

I suspect the Taliban and other groups will not said the real numbers.

I need to sperg; why would anyone fuck off to Mexico during a zombie pandemic is beyond me. The infrastructure is shit. Water you can't drink unless purified. Cartels will more than likely be even more ruthless. I mean I get la was pretty bad but I'd sooner fuck off to Canada than Mexico. :/

DN readers traveled by train to suspended Italy

330 of the newspaper Dagens Nyheter's subscribers went to Venice this week.
The majority of passengers jumped off in the Alps, but 60 of them are currently in the city of Italy where the corona virus is ravaging.
The subscribers went down with a "climate train" and the purpose is to prove that "trains can be driven through Europe".
That's what the newspaper's editor-in-chief Peter Wolodarski writes about in his Sunday chronicle.
The subscribers who went all the way have visited a carnival, among other things.
- They are in Venice right now and the carnival was partially canceled, says Peter Wolodarski.

Wolodarski is following the trend
Due to the corona virus, the Italian authorities have taken action in several cities. Several popular locations have been closed and / or canceled. Football matches, among other things.
Peter Wolodarski says that you are following the trend closely.
- We have our own train with which they go, he says.
“Now a full DN train with 400 readers goes towards the Alps and Venice, the first passenger train that runs all the way without switching from Sweden to Germany over the bridges in Denmark. Claimed to be "impossible". Now we do it! ”Tweeted DN's editor-in-chief on February 21.
Infrastructure is being kept open in Italy despite the virus outbreak and the hope is that travelers will be able to move on Monday. Switzerland will not close its border with Italy, Austria closed the train traffic for a few hours on Sunday evening but reopened at midnight, writes Corriere della Sera.

Council: Attention to symptoms
How the infection came to Italy is still unknown.
Authorities are chasing the person who should have taken the virus to the country and gathering power at the same time to minimize the spread.
A joint teleconference with Italy and other EU countries' infection control authorities will take place on Monday.

The recommendation to all Swedes who are in or have returned from Italy is to pay attention to disease symptoms.
If signs of airway infection should be contacted immediately, according to Anders Tegnell, state epidemiologist at the Public Health Authority.
- The same applies to Swedes as to everyone else who has been to the area. If you come home and get symptoms then you should contact the health care so that you can get advice from them on what you need to do, he says.
TL;DR and some context
~ Last year the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter started hosting train trips to countries such as Italy and Austria. They call the train they use for their trips "The Climate Train" because their goal is to prove that it's possible to travel in a more climate-friendly way and not just take the plane. (Especially if you are rich enough to pay 18 000 - 35 000 kr/per person for a train trip)
– This week the DN train went to Italy... just as the Corona virus broke out there
– A lot of the people who were on the train got off in the Alps but around 60 people are currently in Venice where they went to visit the carnival.
– The editor Peter Wolodarski is "monitoring the situation closely"
– Currently they're stuck there but the train is expected to be able to continue later today

Because of this little incident "DN-tåget" is currently trending on Swedish twitter.

Maybe the Climate train will later turn out to be the Corona train

Corona Chan's rape train has no breaks!

A new vid from the good doctor.

If the WHO doesn't want to lose a lot of credibility, they must declare this a pandemic right the fuck now.

The Italians are handling it pretty competently so far.

Iran meanwhile lost a lot of precious six days by trying to control the flow of information instead of reacting immediately. We don't know the real situation, but Dr. Campbell's contact says it's really bad as in people dying by the hour. And that's in Teheran alone. Fucked up if true.

China is still pretty fucked, but the number of new infections seem to be stagnating. At least according to the available numbers. Chinese officials even admitted "shortcomings".

Has anyone published Corona-chan's real death rate? I've read anywhere from 2% to 20%.

The issue with this is that the death rate is going to vary based on the health of a given population, the medical care available and the prevalence of the disease at any given moment.

In a Western nation, with good health care it's probably sub 2%, in 3rd world nations... well, we'll have to wait and see.

hmm this is where the party should step in and provide him with the materials or have a talk with the suppliers.

I thought one of the benifits draw back to communism was having a command enconomy

In case the EU's treatment of spanish exports didn't get you the clue. This is the issue with government tyranny. They can force you to lower the price but no one can force the components to EXIST. So if the prize is too low to make it, the product simply stops existing. In the case of our veggies they get thrown at the cattle and floofers around our farms. Because trying to transport it to buyers is too expensive to bother, in the case of the masks, the imports of textiles simply never happen.

Well if the went to the reasonable places to go the series wouldn't have much tension now would it?

No one can calculate it because china lies. Probably close to 2 by Italy's numbers.

I got a suspicion something might be going down. Tonight I'll post. It's probably nothing.

I read about him in Red China Blues. Apparently he thought people in America respected Mao more than George Washington.
Well, if you were a 4 star General who constantly indulges on a state-funded supply of illicit drugs, fucks around 100 different prostitutes a year, consumes an all-pork diet, plays video games about 3 hours a day, and has carte blanche to execute your fellow countrymen for any perceived slight, you might live in an alternate reality as well.

Mao's grandson has 3 doctors permanently assigned to his entourage to deal with overdoses as they happen. The cult of personality is still alive and well.

Tbh I would have just stayed on the boat.

Seventh death in Italy:

An 80 yo brought last Thurday to the hospital for a heart attack, just when patient one was also in the process of being hospitalized. He was first in ICU and then moved to Milan at Sacco hospital once tested positive.
Corona-chan got him in three and a half day.

I will probably post a better link once the news got its own article, instead of the 'hour-by-hour" general update.

EDIT:
New Picture (2).png

it says: Death of woman from Crema denied.
The retractin comes from the Region of Lombardy: in the past hours the news of a woman from Crema dying at the hospital in Brescia had begun circulating.
This was the alleged 6th death. So six deaths for now, the last one being the heart attack guy.

Everything is fine when prime ministers cancel their schedules one week ahead of the country's parliamentary election in Bratislava, Slovakia, February 20, 2020

“Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini was hospitalized yesterday night due to acute upper respiratory tract infection accompanied with high temperature. Due to his condition, he is cancelling his entire schedule temporarily,” Pellegrini’s office said in a statement."

Is this serious enough yet for europe to close all it's fucking borders, please ?

I tried to verify with sources but couldn't find any yet, but word on the street is that the U.S. is about to send 3 to 5 billion dollars to China to keep them afloat.
Drop in the bucket.

China has put around $800 B into the Shanghai and Shenzen stock markets since January to keep them afloat. It should reach $1 T by March 1.

By comparison, in 2008, the US invested around $19 T into the US financial system to keep it afloat. The Chinese bailout is not that big, but... if the quarantines remain in place for another couple months, they will need to pump in a a little more, possibly twice that.

So I'm not sure it makes sense for the US to send them money. They need a vaccine, which we absolutely can produce.

Pity.

Maybe it's ass-backwards but I was always isolationist, and in the past few years I've gone from isolationist to "fuck the world" pretty quickly. Let them die, as a "superpower" and as a regional hegemony.
