Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

It's down over a thousand. There should be a late day sell-off, might be as much as a 3k drop before the day is done.

This is mostly driven by fears over what is happening in Italy and South Korea. US markets have some exposure, but not that much.
I'm waiting to see if plunge protection is going to be used, Meanwhile, watching the gold and silver prices.

This is long, but worth a read - really gets you in the mood to punch a hole in a wall.

Austria is a banana republic, but come on:

"Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg was on a European mission to Iran from Saturday to Sunday. The minister was excellently prepared for his meetings - including with his counterparts Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rohani - as he demonstrated in various journalist briefings. After a long time, Schallenberg, another EU foreign minister, took the first step and sought to talk to Iran. Apparently with successful results, as he confirmed after the meetings.

Accompanied by a smaller delegation made up of a spokeswoman, consultants and journalists, one thing went unnoticed: When the travel group - including KURIER - arrived in Tehran, the corona virus had long spread in Iran. Five deaths have already been confirmed. Iraq and Kuwait stopped all flights. "Let's see how quickly you get back home," quipped the reception committee.

The situation worsened again on Thursday. All universities in the city had to be closed. Since Austrian Airlines does not fly to Tehran until the end of March - due to a plane being shot down in January - there are rarely direct flights to Vienna with other lines. There was no direct return flight.

Of course, one was prepared for this: Schallenberg was supposed to continue flying directly via Doha to Geneva for the UN Human Rights Council on Sunday evening. The nine-member rest of the Austrian delegation should have returned to Vienna via Turkey on Monday morning. Nothing came of the second thing.

While Schallenberg met the most important politicians in the country - a high-ranking mayor near Tehran, by the way, is suffering from the Corona virus - and strolled through the bazaar without a protective mask, nibbled pistachios, the rest of the group received a juicy bad news: “Your stay should really be extend. Turkish Airlines no longer fly to Tehran. "

Everything remained as it was for the minister - except if he shook the wrong hand. Then his visits to Geneva and afterwards to Washington may cause diplomatic or even worse outbursts. But the rest of the delegation was threatened with stranding in Tehran. Your flight was canceled. Happiness in misfortune: The nine affected could be rebooked on the Schallenberg flight.

But what then? If they had entered Qatar, the delegation would have had to be in quarantine for 14 days - because they came from the Iranian Corona risk area. This had to be prevented. Thanks to the foreign ministry's formidable crisis management, the already tired group managed to get a connecting flight to Vienna and “slept” for about four hours in three shared rooms in a Qatari airport hotel. On the one hand in the best school trip mood, on the other hand always with a keen eye, people in protective suits shouldn't come into the room."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????? :stress:

Seems like quarantine is just for plebs, I really hope the USA nukes us back to the dark ages when Schallenberg infects someone in Washington.

the levels of absurd pandering disinformation radiating out of the WHO is staggering. “Praise China! No new infections! Xi has saved us all!” Really? You believe that shit? I’m fairly certain the Chinese people don’t. They’ve just stopped reporting numbers. Or in fact anything.p in support of their “liquidating” the virus. We know it’s in Best Korea. We know it hit their two northern most hospitals and there were at least 5 deaths, before all news stopped. We can guess how bad things are. South Korea is reporting 2 Military units quarantined. Imagine how bad the Norks are?

someone had asked what the expected fatality rate is for Corona Chan. It’s hard to judge in totality. Because the disease has such a broad spectrum of presentation. The 2% that gets kicked around is really 2-4% of those patients admitted to hospitals needing advanced respiratory care. So ~2.5% or so of those admitted to the ICU will die. The problem is no one has numbers on the total pool of infections as many just suffer the flu at home and recover. It also doesn’t account for home deaths.

the rate of deaths will also vary greatly by available resources. Of those severely sick, even small or low level interventions can have a big difference in outcome. If Oxygen says are dropping, putting the patient on Oxygen can make a huge difference. If that is not available the patient will rapidly decline and die. The availability of basic medical thereapy’s will make a huge difference. In China or even a Italy Oxygen will be readily available to every patient in a hospital. In Iran or Best Korea? It’s likely not piped in to every bed. Rather they wheel in a bottle with regulator as needed.they probably only have 2-3 setups per 20 bed hospital ward on the Med/Surg floors. And likely only a dozen ICU beds per facility, if even that many.

Adding to this, the thing that greatly increases the fatality rate is it gets into the Health Care system. It starts spreading through the hospitals or nursing facilities. That’s when you see the spikes of deaths like in Italy, where weak elderly and already compromised patients start dying quickly. When you start seeing such a spike, it means the Doctors have it and are carrying it from patient to patient. That’s what is going on in Iran, NK and Italy. South Korea managed to seemingly avoid that, but was undone by the idiotic cult becoming a cluster outside the health facilities.

oh and as an added bonus. In talking to some Doctor friends, it seems the growing concern among them is the masks do nothing. The Virus is small enough to go right through them.

Heard it hits babies pretty hard, but that's just anecdotal. It's fucking disgusting the borders have not been closed.
What? Ive heard the opposite, Children and young takes it with ease! 🤔

Got no sources now, but ive seen it mentioned on several places (probably some of them here in this thread)

Does anyone have advice on how to cheaply prep 2 weeks of food?

I just came back from the store, as I expect that corona chan will be arriving in my country in the next days. I got flour, rice, potatoes ,onions, garlic, pasta, canned beans, instant noodles, bouillon cubes, frozen veggies, frozen pizza, tomato sauce etc.

Just the basics, this doesn't spoil and you would it eat anyways. You can make 10000 things out of this.

And don't forget lot of toilet paper ;)

WHO finally admits this will be a pandemic, while still underplaying it. Fuck the WHO.

Well I'm leaving tomorrow.

Yes.
Raw materials up by at least 1500%, labour and etc all well over 1000%.
Yet the government has laws to prevent mask manufactures from increasing the price of the product.

So something that costs a dollar to make will now be at least 25 dollars. Ordinarily they will sell the product for say 3 dollars and bag the $2 profit, now they have to sell it at $25 to just breakeven, however the state deems this illegal and they are forced to still sell the product for 3 dollars if they want to sell it, which results in astronomical loss since masks are sold by the thousands.

Therefore they decided to keep doors shut.

Hope this sounds less autistic and makes more sense.

Sounds extraordinarily Venezualan; allow costs to spiral, fix prices low to the point you ruin yourself selling at that price point.

Govt needs to take over production of subsidize mask manufacturers for the duration of the epidemic. It will be far less costly to do that than to deal with the economic costs to the nation that endless further infections and death will impose.

Well I'm leaving tomorrow.
Will you have to do any quarantine protocol when you return home? Plus, glad you are coming home.

Bullfuckingshit. Over a thousand are dead in China and several dozen others elsewhere (before actual numbers, however many that is). How in the living hell does that not qualify as a pandemic?

Yes, all doctors I personally know say that masks are completely worthless against the virus. Then again, all of these same doctors seem to think that coronavirus is a nothingburger and regard people panicking over it as extremely hilarious.

Thought you guys might find this interesting, I've been following Coronavirus news on twitter for awhile now and one of the accounts that has been quite consistent in uploading videos is Harry Chen PhD, maybe some of you are familiar with this account as his videos have been posted in this thread previously. Any way I've just tried to visit his account and surprise surprise I suddenly find myself unable to do so, it seems as if his account has been banned. Now of course I don't know the full story, but its awful fishy that a account that has posted numerous videos from the Wuhan itself, from ordinary Chinese people, has suddenly been wiped off the face of the earth by twitter.

Just saw this news was already posted, these late ratings are well deserved.
