Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Shelves in America are about to take an ass-whipping from anyone here who's paying attention. My household is preparing as I type this from the same bullshit AFB who's keeping human pitri dishes on the loosest 'lockdown' I've ever seen in my life.

8:56 a.m. CDC says Americans should prepare for virus:
With coronavirus now spreading community-wide in multiple countries, including parts of Europe, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the world is on the cusp of a pandemic and advises that Americans begin preparing now for the virus to circulate here. “Ultimately we expect we will see community spread in this country,” said Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases with the CDC. “It’s not a question of if, but when, and how many people in this country will have severe illness.” She said the world was “closer to definition of pandemic.”

Please buy yourselves chest freezers if you haven't already got them; they need about 24 hours of not moving before you plug them in and get them started due to the Freon that makes them work. Once they're good to turn on, keep them on their absolute coldest setting at all times with several bottles of water lining the bottom. Buy up LARGE amounts of boneless chicken breasts and lean ground beef to divvy into quart freezer storage bags (1-3 chicken breasts per). Go fucking apeshit on the frozen veggies and canned fruits (preferably in 100% juice). Load up on rice and beans as other Kiwis have said, get plenty of purified drinking water; "spring water" is just tapwater and home filters don't actually purify anything. Dry pasta and shelf-stable sauces will be your new best friends if shit does hit the fan regarding food supply. Do not underestimate the usefulness of shelf-stable broths and seasonings; they can help you to keep your head screwed on straight if you're stuck eating pantry foods and the same meats for more than just a few days.

Even if the food-prep for a potential US epidemic turns out to be unnecessary, the foods you just stocked up on won't be going bad anytime soon and your new chest freezer will give you a newfound opportunity and appreciation for sales on meats at the supermarket. They also keep that discount Valentine's Day chocolate perky and fresh for multiple years. Everything will stay fresh for a ridiculously long time if you keep your chest freezer on its coldest possible setting.

Will the WHO just accept the fact no one believes their numbers and finally be honest about the situation?
Or course not. It's somewhat understandable that they don't want to start a panic because people will start doing stupid things when they're scared. The flipside of that is the longer this goes on without a robust, sensible response the worse the inevitable panic will be.

TLDR bureaucracies suck at getting anything done.

That's not exactly it. They get obscene amounts of money from China and so do their bidding. The WHO might be the most openly corrupt global organization currently existing. There's plenty of material on it available that's been linked in this thread.

I mean, I already knew that part. I just kinda figured that a super virus would sober them up and they'd at least pretend to get shit done.
Sad, I know.

I've read the entire thread, minus some blog posts and retreads of tinfoil hat sperging. I'm saying that they're treading carefully on China's behalf and (probably) because of fears of panic.

They’ve also lived through far harder times than most of us soft post war generations. My parents remember rationing in the UK, plenty of people that age remember outside toilets, no heating, make do and mend, the winter of discontent etc. Psychologically they’re probably better prepared than the rest of us.

Anyone with frail elders should be getting them stocked up on basics and any medications they need , and checking in every day just to make sure they are alright.

Hello, mum of Botchygaloop!

I'm only middle aged and I remember the extensive power cuts of '73-74 (just). Mum had us little ones making toast via the gas fire, sitting in the dark, with candles burning for light. I also remember the winter of discontent. One of the (many) reasons I have never voted Labour and never will. I was just a little kid and the politics at the time were beyond me but I recall the rubbish piling up, the anguish at the dead remaining unburied and so on. I also had older relatives in the old mill towns with outdoor toilets still back in the 1970s. Brought up on war stories. It's amazing how you can get by with very little when you absolutely have to. The key is planning and co-operation between people though. People back then relied on each other far more, there was less 'I've got mine, fuck everyone else' mentality among the working classes.

I cannot remember the last time I heard of an antibiotic resistant strain arising in a western country. It’s always India or China or somewhere and it’s a problem because people bring their fucking multi drug resistant TB back to the UK (where some London boroughs have rates well in excess of third world areas) and spit everywhere

I assure you the migrant crisis of 2015 and beyond has quadrupled the issue. There's drug resistant TB in Republic of Ireland too. I know someone who managed to acquire it and they had no idea how or who the vector was, which is so worrying.

The story about the drug of last resort being fed to pigs though. Fucking hell. Fuck China.

Link I found about it, read it and weep:

What would a "I hope coronavirus kill all x" monkey's paw look like? They get replaced with something worse, or their tragic death inspires a boom in their population several years hence?

They sell the death of 6 million of their countrymen for the next century all while using it to blackmail every other nation and people on earth into giving them untold amounts of political and economic power and influence?

2 more cases in France:

23 now in Bahrain:

First case in Algeria:

Bureaucrats literally have to be blessed by any number of Pappa's Nurgle's gifts before they get a clue maybe they should be doing things differently. But by being bureaucrats as long as one remains unblessed they will keep doing the same thing. So Corona-Chan will need to personally lap dance each and every single one she encounters before it get better for the rest of the human population.
