I had a weird epiphany today and thought I'd share.

The last two weeks I've been working from home, where I live alone. I'm kind of connected to work through email and skype but besides that, it's a strangely isolating experience. Talking to people through the computer isn't the same as proper socialising. Also I'm very close to the kitchen so I find myself snacking more than I would, and walking around less. So less exercise and socialisation, and eating more/more snacking. I'm kind of letting myself go (for me at least) - not showering or shaving because I won't be interacting with anyone. Wearing similar clothes to phil.

Also you have more time to be alone with your thoughts, without the moderating influence of other people, or really the ability to process thoughts through venting with friends. The man is so isolated, and it's one thing to identify it but to actually try it for a couple of weeks in his shoes really drove the point home. If this is me after two weeks, imagine if this was my lifestyle for many years. When he says things like comparing lost save files to a real tragedy, or doesn't know what the rainy day metaphor is, I think we need to remember he's had no real interaction for ten years. Nothing to constrain his behaviour and no real social cues to read. Maybe that explains the entitlement and the sheer greed, and behaviours which would embarrass most people but he lacks the awareness to be ashamed of.

Anyway i think I realised the extent to which Phil is at least partly a product of his surreal existence and not just his personality, although it's probably his personality that means he can't snap himself out of it in circumstances where most probably would.

This got me thinking - I used to work in an area that involved psychological reports being obtained so that people who work with difficult personalities could better understand the people they're dealing with. A bit like the legal, accounting and tax experts who have explained the tax arc for the rest of us, a qualified psychologist would be able to analyse what is already available on Phil and come up with a really interesting, credible profile. Are there psychologists here who would be willing to put labels on the behaviours we see or alternatively a way to generate that report? Kickstarter or something? Or does this report already exist somewhere?

This is the first thing I saw when I loaded up twitch to see what Phil was up to

That would be largely impossible. Those professionals can diagnose people because, in a perfect world, the patient is honest and open with the practitioner. I don't believe there is anyone in the world DSP is honest and open with.

I assume the "perfect example" is Bill Goldberg won one of their big titles and will get a big match on Wrestlemania instead of Bray Wyatt. I'll avoid getting too smart marky, but it's one of those decisions WWE often does that pisses off the hardcore fans that watch regularly. Which means Phil is still watching regularly.

AFAIK Wyatt holding the title was an absolute blowup due to a match against Rollins.

DSP did also tweet about it.

Avoiding powerleveling too much, I work have worked in psych wards.

You cannot diagnose/put labels on someone without doing interviews with them. It doesn't matter if they lie because you're still able to create a picture of how that person is doing based on the everyday talks you have with him and how he reacts to your questions. Otherwise, mental patients wouldn't be interviewed.

It's not about lying, it's about having the chance. And Oddly Shapped would rather throw his crusty loveseat than sit with a professional 2 days in a row.

There's a publicly available psychological analysis of Adolf Hitler prepared for the CIA during WWII, where obviously the psych didn't get to sit down with Hitler but was still able to provide a report that explained Hitler's behaviour and predicted how he would behave when subjected to various stresses. It's a really good read and I'd love a similar one for Phil.

I agree - most psychs would need to sit down with the person and any report prepared without that opportunity would be full of qualifications, but DSP isn't like most people, there are thousands of hours of video of him online. Watching some of that video might even tell the psych more than 10 hours over four days or whatever they get to write the typical report. It wouldn't tell them everything but it would be a bit to go on.

but I agree -the full report where the psych gets to put questions to this guy would be fascinating.

While I am no psychoanalysis, I think Phil would be both a boring and sort of interesting case study. It's obvious that he's insecure, narcissist, an utter shut-in who avoids human contact to the point it's almost like aversion as well as a fairly fucked up perception of himself, money, his life, etc. However, we do only see the Phil on camera which is mostly him chest-thumping and acting the big man because he can control the environment that gives him lots of money and asspats for simply being Phil but can only speculate on what Phil is like the other 14 hours of the day.

For all this, Phil isn't that unusual. He's an American hikikomori, the Japanese term for shut-ins who close themselves off to society and simply exist within the walls of their room with a rough estimate of perhaps a million social recluses in Japan. Though while in Japan it tends to be people collapsing under the social pressure to succeed, I would imagine for Phil it was him being unable to be successful that made him withdraw into the walls of his condo like a hermit crab but the similarities between the two do match up.
In the condo he doesn't have to conform or act like normal people do which is why he burps and snorts (which he suddenly doesn't do when he's being interviewed so he is able to consciously stop it) and makes shitty jokes that only he has to find funny. No one to correct him or tell him he's being stupid to upset his applecart, no other men to compare himself with when he and his wife spend one day together watching youtube or walking around a mall and his insistence that more successful people than him won by error or simply Phil is the one being unjustly hobbled for no reason. Phil is king inside his tiny kingdom and that tends to be the trend for most social recluses; the outside world is tough and inside it's safer and easier. The only difference is Phil withdrew because of his crippling mediocrity and inability to force changes in himself, instead blaming the world for not turning around him. That might be clinical narcissism or just shitty upbringing, I'd say half and half but that's just speculation.

The only thing that makes Phil somewhat interesting is the fact streaming gives us a tiny window into the Phil kingdom where he acts like the big tough guy so it gives you an idea of how Phil sees himself, kind of like the little patient observation windows to see whatever the fuck he's doing. Considering most recluses tend to be just that, Phil hopping and down infront of a camera thinking he's a very successful and amazing entertainer who is just a victim of circumstance gives you a pretty good idea of how he views himself. Unfortunately without a camera in the mansion it's harder to guess how he interacts with the one other human in his life for six days out of the week or even how he goes about outside. I doubt he's some turboautist biting his wrist and bashing his head against the wall in a tantrum but likely he's just one of those hundreds of other guys that says nothing at the time and brags later about how he was just a few seconds from going absolutely nuts on this guy.

All in all, he fits many of the already given and studied criteria of shut-ins and spoiled upbringings, perhaps there's a little bit more under the surface of his day to day living and maybe we'll see how confrontational he can be with the court recordings if he has to defend the bullshit that he likely thinks is a work of genius, but otherwise I'd say he's your average beta male who talks shit when no one else is listening and utterly convinced he's the alpha.

Good read - I think you're right but there's also an aspect to him that feels underdeveloped to me. Like there are things people go through in life by the time they hit 37 which makes them who they are as people, shapes their worldview and sense of self and identity. Phil seems to have something missing which he fills with bluster and delusions of adequacy, and playing a part of what he imagines success to be. What would a psychologist think of him describing videos on youtube of him playing video games as a "legacy" with a straight face? I think he believes it. Imagine what a typical teacher, nurse or social worker his age has achieved in that time. We've watched him so long we come to expect it but that's not normal. It's exceptional. It's so pathetic and unaware that I need an explanation.

There's a whole thread for that if you're interested in further reading.

I don't think DSP is that complicated. I think he's a deeply insecure man on a number of levels who came to prominence through very little action on his own part and has been watching that prominence fade for a long time knowing the lifestyle to which he's become accustomed is threatened as that happens. I think he's a lazy, shallow person to some degree but that his insecurity paralyzes him from making decisions that would improve his life and forces him to cover himself with lies and bravado.

All this to say that I don't think he's worth pitying. Mental illness is a terrible thing and people who have it deserve help but when they start beating up on the others around them on account of it while simultaneously refusing to get help then I lose the will to empathize with them. Phil's been foisting his livelihood off on others for ten years now. He's facing a bankruptcy hearing next week despite all the goodwill he's been shown by countless people and his entire "career" has been characterized by consistent greed and spite toward his fans. To me that's the single aspect of him that puts him beyond sympathy. You could give this man a million dollars and then ask him what his favorite Final Fantasy game was and he'd treat you with the same contempt he'd show a pile of dogshit he'd just stepped in. He will never show gratitude or humility and for that reason I will never care how depressed he actually may be. He can fuck right off the edge of the planet and I'm pretty sure it will continue to spin for everyone else on it.

Reading the farms often benefits Phil because he can find out what the detractors are focusing on and perhaps change his plans to prevent information from getting out. You also get people jumping the gun all the time - like for instance with the mobile gatcha game news and people trolling Phil in his chat and giving him a chance to damage control before everything is archived. Another example is people telling him all the things he got wrong on his bankruptcy document giving him a chance to change the lies that are too obvious (although everything on there is a terrible lie anyway).

But this court day saga is different. I hope Phil knows all about the court discussions and the fact that people are planning to obtain the recording. It adds an extra layer of paranoia which is sure to hit the pig hard on the morning of his big day.

if he gets his bankruptcy application dismissed, he has zero excuse, all his mistakes are here, yet he still made an amendment with the same false information on it

there's definitely something he's trying to hide

I'm late as hell to this, but that "eating out vs not eating out and that it costs the same rant" just blows my socks off.

Why was he so quick to anger for that anyway?
Expect to hear a lot of this this week. Baby Phil will throw many shit-fits because he has to protect his fragile delusional fantasy world where: He will have to change nothing about his life, he gets to keep all his stuff, all his unsecured debt will be wiped away, and he will get to keep $4+K of his income every month from here on out. Because that's how bankruptcy works.
