Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

There's some fairly robust evidence that communicable disease increases preferences for closed borders beyond what could be accounted for by prudence. Such evidence also supports the idea it increases support for authoritarian policies - which I guess underlies what you're arguing here... But given how leftism is tied so closely to open borders now it may do little to add to support for the left.

All the leftist position needs to do (which is hard in the US) is to morph into an isolationist position. No biggies, already happening in Denmark.

But yes, perhaps Trump could counter Bernie with the argument that he wouldn't have closed the borders. Now if Bernie would say "I would've for the sake of the health of Americans", that destroys much of the popular support the right has in the US, and who is the democratic base supporting open borders going to vote for then in the general? The Green party? lol.

All it takes are balls. If he has them he can win the general with 70% if Corona blows up, healthcare *will be the only issue* let alone the major issue.

The problem is, the Left has been promising free shit for as long as I've been alive, and one of their key issues is free healthcare. The only way to counter that is to get the legacy media to admit that socailist medicine would literally kill us all in a deadly pandemic. Good luck with that, because ORANGE MAN BAD.

the relatively low mortality rate. We are literally crashing the economy over a seasonal flu

1-3% is not a low mortality rate. Seasonal flu kills 0.1% and a bad flu year can strain health systems to breaking point. this is 200x more deadly than flu. Ebola isn’t a good comparison, it’s so deadly and it’s relatively easy to quarantine because of its transmission route.
The most likely outcome in western countries will be supply chain issues, and a BIG strain in the health systems. We do not have that many ventilators, healthcare staff are hit disproportionately. The knock on effects mean that elective surgeries get cancelled, and people die of stuff because there aren’t enough beds or kit and the hospitals are overflowing.
Get vaccinated against flu at the least because the last thing you want is flu, and the slight lung damage it causes, in a year where all the ICU/vent places are filled with corona victims

Northern California city struggles with coronavirus mystery
https://apnews.com/57177e2e35d7d0d518361166935c614e (http://archive.vn/TdSXa)

VACAVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Residents of a Northern California community are at the epicenter of what officials are calling a turning point in the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus, as investigators try to retrace the steps of a hospitalized patient they believe to be the first in the U.S. to be infected without traveling internationally or being in close contact with anyone who had it.

Some took the news in stride even as federal infectious disease experts fanned out across Vacaville with teams of state and local health officials. Others stockpiled supplies for fear things could get worse despite official reassurances.

The community of about 100,000 is between San Francisco and Sacramento in Solano County, in the agricultural Central Valley near California’s famous wine region. It is about 10 miles from Travis Air Force Base. Public health officials said they can find no connection between the infected woman and passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship who were evacuated to the base from where the ship was docked in Japan.

The development marks an escalation of the worldwide outbreak in the U.S. because it means the virus could now spread beyond the reach of preventative measures like quarantines, though state health officials said that had been inevitable and the risk of widespread transmission remained low.

McKinsey Paz, her husband and her boss at a Vacaville private security company weren’t taking any chances. They hustled to a warehouse store Thursday for 10 cases of bottled water, canned food, staples like rice and beans, and cases of toilet paper and paper towels.

“We’re not sure what’s going to happen. Panic seems to do that to you,” she said. “In case things get a little crazy, we didn’t want to be the last ones. We’re preparing for the worst.”

Solano County Public Health Officer Dr. Bela Matyas said public health officials have identified dozens of people — but less than 100 — who had close contact with the woman. Those people are quarantined in their homes. A few have shown symptoms and are in isolation, Matyas said.

Officials are not too worried, for now, about casual contact, because federal officials think the coronavirus is spread only through “close contact, being within six feet of somebody for what they’re calling a prolonged period of time,” said Dr. James Watt, interim state epidemiologist at the California Department of Public Health.

The virus can cause fever, coughing, wheezing and pneumonia. Health officials think it spreads mainly from droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how the flu spreads.

Several Vacaville residents said they will try to avoid crowded places for now, while taking other routine and recommended precautions like frequent and thorough hand-washing.

Others plan to do more.

“I’m definitely going to wear my mask and gloves at work, because I’m a server,” said Denise Arriaga, who works at a popular bowling alley. She has seen more patrons there wearing masks recently and said she doesn’t care if she’s criticized for the extra precautions.

“At the end of the day, it’s my life,” she said.

The case raised questions about how quickly public health officials are moving to diagnose and treat new cases. State and federal health officials disagreed about when doctors first requested the woman be tested.

Doctors at the UC Davis Medical Center said they asked the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to test the woman for the virus on Feb. 19. But they said the CDC did not approve the testing until Sunday “since the patient did not fit the existing CDC criteria” for the virus, according to a memo posted to the hospital’s website.

The woman first sought treatment at NorthBay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville, before her condition worsened and she was transferred to the medical center.

CDC spokesman Richard Quartarone said a preliminary review of agency records indicates the agency did not know about the woman until Sunday, the same day the woman was first tested.

That’s the kind of confusion that concerns Paz, whose security company has already stockpiled 450 face masks and is scrambling for more “since they’re hard to come by.” The owner also bought enough cleaning and disinfectant supplies to both scrub down the office and send home with employees.

But they are at the extreme when it comes to such preparations.

Eugenia Kendall was wearing a face mask, but in fear of anything including the common cold. Her immune system is impaired because she is undergoing chemotherapy, and she has long been taking such precautions.

“We’re not paranoid. We’re just trying to be practical,” said her husband of 31 years, Ivan Kendall. “We wipe the shopping carts if they have them, and when I get back in the car I wipe my hands — and just hope for the best.”

Investigators were focused on tracing the woman’s movements to figure out how she got the virus and who else she may have unwittingly infected.

With the patient as ground zero, they are interviewing immediate family members. Then, as with any similar case, they are expanding the net to include more distant family members who may have been in contact, social gatherings like church that the patient may have attended, and any possible time spent at work or events like a concert.

All of the 59 other cases in the U.S. have been for people who had traveled abroad or had close contact with others who traveled.

Earlier U.S. cases included 14 in people who returned from outbreak areas in China, or their spouses; three people who were evacuated from the central China city of Wuhan; and 42 American passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

The global count of those sickened by the virus hovered Thursday around 82,000, with 433 new cases reported in China and another 505 in South Korea.

tldr, new info to me:

Hungary update: Only people with fever are tested, even if they were in Italy or China, even if that was near or inside the infected regions. Tests are refused for people without symptoms accorsing to HVG , the local Bloomberg equivalent. Cant post sauce since I work and typing on the hand phone, but google is your friend.

Our population age is like Japan, and we are part of Grorius Road and Bert Initiative. So we suck China's little yellow rice dick. Our healtcare is definately worse than China and somewhat better or at least equal to than Iran. Most hospitals were (re)built after the allies bombed then.

Canned goods, masks and hand sanitizers are gone. New canned goods are gone by 8:30 am in a Tesco that opens at 6.

If Turkey is releasing migrants, we may as well coof on them. Part of why China is numba one super ally is their kebab removal. Coof kills 10%, kebab can go up to 90% so I choose Ching chong waifu over Islam any day. I just wish I could choose neither.

As I said earlier on this thread, Trump dropped the ball on this. I don't like how he didn't take this as seriously as he should've. I don't like how slow he was to respond to this. I don't like how he seems to still be in denial.

But if you think the Democrats aren't using this as their golden opportunity to bash Trump in every way shape and form, you're also in denial.

The Democrats are thanking God right now for this plague - they had NOTHING good enough to go on him. This is it. This is the one that even normies may listen to. But they didn't give a shit a week ago about this virus just like Trump didn't. And they're going to come out and act like they told the world this would happen? Fuck them. They did NOTHING.

Hey Nancy, Bernie, Chuck, and Elizabeth - where were you a damn month ago when the CDC said this thing was going to get bad? Mister Meteokur, a fucking lolcow YouTuber warned us about this a month ago. A YOUTUBER. I got a damn Youtuber to thank for getting my N95 masks a month in advance before they were all gone. Not the Democrats.
n95 ain't gonna do shit for sars a you need p100. as for why Trump is doing shit about it what do you expect when half the government will scream racism if he does?

Regarding the case in Nigeria - if this is true … oh well.

First corona case in Wales, another gift from Italy.

Wales has confirmed its first case of coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 17.

The patient had travelled back from northern Italy, where they had contracted the virus.

Wales' chief medical officer said "all appropriate measures" were being taken to care for the patient and reduce the risk of transmission.

They should have been doing that weeks ago
The way they tell if he's infected is a thermometer, which taking into account a lot of infected have no fever, and it can be fooled by the heat of the car trip under such ambient, is fucking stupid. And most of the cops were using only surgical masks (which are horridly insufficient) and no goggles. So really. That shield ain't worth shit against someone that's actually infected. So... no. They shouldn't have started doing this weeks ago. They should've started doing something actually efficient months ago. But this ain't it chief.

Again, as I said on a prior post. This is the same as china always does, treatment that seems extreme but forgets the basis and as such has no real efficiency. It's like having a patient with a sore throat and giving them chemo. It won't work.

EDIT: And now on the list of reasons why in a few weeks this old doomer might wind up dressed in flags proclaiming my patriotism. Three murican THOTS got an anti-rape insurance and then tried falsely accusing 3 guys of rape. The very next day the cops had investigating and the whores had fled the country as they were being searched for fraud, false accusations and a few other minor charges. And now even the more feminist part of the media are saying shitheads like them make real victims look bad and they should be punished as such, none of them are making excuses or trying to push politishite. Fucking hell what kinda parallel universe have I woken up in and why am I in a country that doesn't relentlessly suck I am so fucking happy since shit started getting better 2 weeks ago holy shit spain why aren't we like this always?

Virus infects bacteria, lives in guts indefinitely:
The 2019 Wuhan outbreak is caused by the bacteria Prevotella, which is aided by the coronavirus, possibly to adhere to epithelial cells - Prevotella is present in huge amounts in patients from both China and Hong Kong

What a year...

It fucking does not matter and this politics bullshit has to stand to one side. The virus is here in the US and has to be dealt with in a timely manner. Fuck Religion and Fuck politics. They will both turn people into absolute retards and ignore the truth of the matter.

What is important to know is that no government nor corporation is really going to help you. You need to help yourself and do it in a calm manner, using your common sense in the process and be informed of the real situation.

One of the ways in doing so is to read my previous posts about preparing yourself for the flu season. Again for almost a month now I've exposed to so damn many sick areas, such as care homes and hospitals to tell you that so far I am not sick. And the reasons why I am not sick is on how I am presenting the information to the masses.

I am not no Red Neck Johnny hunkered down and masterbating with my AR 15. But I am prepared if there are no food or water sources for 2 people for 3 weeks. I will be eating in a comfortable manner rotating my freezer meat every 3 months and having can and dried food available.

But this is what I have been doing for 35 years how I store and prepare my food. The reason why is because of the savings that I got out this that I have learned from my grand parents and from the people of the depression and silent generation.

And I fucking live great. I eat very well and I am saving money in the process. Within those 35 years, I have invested in several areas (and continue to do so) and did retire in my early 40's. Never to work for anyone else again. It is a simple concept to get ahead in life which works well concerning a possible crisis situation, because you already got the most important things covered.

Again what I am saying as posted before is to use your common sense that god gave you and prepare yourself for a flu/cold season. If you do that your chances of getting ill in general greatly will go down.

You don't have to over react to this. Use your common sense. Get your info on things on KiwiFarms from people are are taking this approach in a calm and logical manner.

If the shit really hits the fan and you are smart about all of this then you should have no real worries. If you bought enough of the right things in the food department and this virus slows down and the danger passes then, you are going to have great meals to make in the near future.

Tomorrow I'm making my Ghetto bread pudding out of a stale french bread loaf I forgot that I had in the fridge. It's dry and its perfect with making that kind of pudding. I'm that guy who makes old skool traditional fruit cake that heavily doses it with alcohol to preserve it. The same goes with the bread pudding as I will add a brown sugar/vanilla extract/vodka sauce.
Make it now, freeze it later and have a nice dessert for a full week. With my ghetto Meat Loaf as a base, you can eat it plain because it has a lot of veggies in it or turn some of it into a spaghetti meat sauce with mushrooms and olives. Or Manwich, or whatever you can make it interesting. Make your basic food stuff and work from there.

With your basic food stuffs you can eat will during a situation. There is no reason why not too.

As of this moment where I live and there are 3 major Chink Towns in the general area, there is plenty of food and stocks of masks. There has not been any sort of panic buying and there should not be. Again I am still healthy because of the precautions that I have posted previously.

Previously posted I suggested that you get a emergency radio of some sort and there are many types to choose from.
Was told by a friend that Kaito makes some decent models to choose from. Again I did not go all whole hog on this. Just something that will pick up AM/FM SW1/SW2. I picked up a compact KAITO KA888 for under $20. If you want something with more bells and whistles then you might want the KAITO KA600L or KA700. It just depends on how much money you want to spend.

And as state before Unless you are in a 3rd world country which includes those shit monkeys in China, you are probably going to be fine.

Just remember to keep clean, take your vitamins, avoid large areas of people as possible. Change and separate your clothing and wash them separately and calmly store up on food as applicable.

So stay clean and stay safe, use your common sense and everything is going to be fine.

These videos coming out of china are just like all my favorite works of Dystopian Fiction (more so than regular videos from china) and it's just filling me with glee.
Gonna suck when it hits my country though but I should beat Pathologic by then,

I downloaded this. I hang around a lot of Chinese students. I will show them this when they try to make excuses for their government or talk smack about other countries. It is absolutely tragic that they refuse to accept this situation stems from failures from their government.

Is this then the case of "it couldn't be this retarded unless it was real"?

Good shit .
