A dog in Hong Kong has tested ‘weak positive’ for coronavirus

The pet dog of a coronavirus patient in Hong Kong has been found to have a “low level” of the virus, the Hong Kong government said early Friday.

The dog tested “weak positive” for the coronavirus, the city’s agricultural and fisheries department said in a statement, without giving further details. Officials will carry out further tests to confirm whether the dog has really been infected with the disease, or if it was a result of environmental contamination of its mouth and nose.

Much is still not known about the virus that is spreading around the world after emerging in central China late last year. It is thought to have transferred to humans from bats and has been shown to spread in a number of ways, but the Hong Kong agricultural department said it doesn’t have evidence that pet animals can be infected, or be a source of infection to people.

If confirmed, the dog would be the first case of a pet catching the coronavirus amid a global outbreak that’s now infected more than 82,000 people and claimed more than 2,800 lives.

The dog is being quarantined at an animal facility, the Hong Kong government said. The department strongly advised that pets of confirmed virus patients also be put under quarantine.

I’m extremely skeptical of this. Most likely explanation if true is the Dog was not infected or carrying the virus, but rather had it around it’s nose and mouth from environmental contact. Such as from licking it’s sick owners face. The dog maybe a vector to transfer the virus within a household, much like the toilet the food and linens can be. But it’s doubtful a Dog and almost certainly not likely for a Cat to function as active hosts. There are some major metabolic differences from humans.

From Rush Limbaugh's interview with Vice President Pence earlier today:

RUSH: What should the American people know today about the status of the coronavirus in America and how it is being dealt with, and — as best you can tell — what the future is?

THE VICE PRESIDENT: You bet. You bet. Well, look, President Trump has no higher priority than the health and safety of the American people. That’s why in the month of January, when we first learned of the coronavirus outbreak, the president took two steps that were unprecedented. No president in American history had ever done it. He suspended all travel to the United States from China by noncitizens of the United States.

Then he instituted a quarantine policy for American citizens that were coming home, that we would make sure that they were taken care of, but also receive treatment and the proper screening to determine that they were not in any jeopardy for their health, for the health of their family or their communities. We also instituted screening at about five different major airports around the country.

RUSH: This is in January.

THE VICE PRESIDENT: In January — and again, the first two steps had never been done by any president. I remember I was in the Oval Office at the time that the White House task force on the coronavirus came in, and they said, “Mr. President, we have a very low risk in this country of an outbreak.” That’s what they told him at the time. The risk remains low to this day. But they said, “We’re recommending you take this step even though it’s never been done before.” The president said without hesitating, “Do it,” and all of our health experts… I attended my first White House corona task force meeting yesterday.

We convened at HHS. I’ve been on the phone the whole way here to Florida with all of our team talking, and talking with governors around the country and members of Congress. Every single one of our health experts have said that if the president had not taken that action in January, we would be in a very different place than we are today. As of today, we have 15 people in the United States who contracted the coronavirus here. All of them have received treatment. All of them are doing well. There’s another 46 Americans that we brought back from China, from overseas. Again, all of them have received treatment, all of them are doing well.

I talked to my brother again, and he's furious that no one seems to be telling the truth.

He said that as a doctor you have to be completely honest, and have statistics, and facts that you can trust to fully understand, and prepare for what you're up against. We don't have that in this case, and it cannot be stressed enough how much harder this makes this virus to treat. Yes, you don't want to cause a panic, but by blatantly withholding, and obscuring vital information like the actual rate of infection, the number of deceased, and how long the incubation phase is, you drastically increase the death toll in the meantime, and the amount of panic that's going to occur once the truth finally gets out.

When I asked him to give it in layman's terms, he said. "The sooner we know what this thing actually does, the sooner we can cure it. Until then, we're basically playing a randomized game of Punch-Out!! while blindfolded. Yes, we know we're boxing, but we don't know if we're up against Glass Joe, or Mike Tyson. And unfortunately, it's starting to appear to be the latter."

No just really busy with work. Only cases we have so far are the ones from the Diamond Princess. I will admit I have been prepping quite a bit but I'll make a more comprehensive post on India's situation in a couple of hours
Thanks man, take your time on reporting, medical life is always busy. Just good to hear from you 👍

Folks, once again, DO NOT TAKE COUNSEL OF YOUR FEARS. Am going to reiterate this every time I sense "The sky is falling!" No need to do this to yourselves. And don't let the MSM get you all aggravated. They just want the eyes/clicks, don't give a shit about the real picture.

Keep in mind even during the Spanish Flu of 1918, the vast majority of people either never caught the disease or caught it and recovered. Same thing's going to happen here.

Lots of good, thought provoking info and analysis here. Use common sense, for crying out loud. Watch where you go if there are cases in your area. Cover your sneezes. Wash your hands. Stay hydrated.

Will also say this. In my opinion, the vast majority of KFers are relatively young and healthy. Doubt you have much to worry about. But take care of yourselves, especially for those of you who have elderly/already in poor health/infant and toddler relatives. They'll be more at risk, and they may well need your help. You may be all they have.

In 1918 immigrants had to go through Ellis Island and people were afraid of disease.

Well, it didn't take long for Democratic politicians to use the Coronavirus to get elected. People like Michael Bloomberg are talking about Trump's decisions in their shitty ads to get voters.
How pathetic, and not surprising.

I know I'm working the wrong crowd for details but what the hell do they think was done wrong? The response was a little low-key but it wasn't out of line with everyone else.

lmao, straight up boomer talking points. My professor told me? Do you watch a lot of PragerU? The whole point was that there are countries that have socialized healthcare where you don't have to have insurance or pay out of pocket on top of it, like European countries. It's possible to have this, China just sucks. And yeah, I do believe European governments care more about their citizens than China's. And your economic theory on why Europe can afford socialized healthcare is just wrong and dumb.

Your the one that pulled the Not tru communism card and you have the nerve to call me stereotypical. Sweatheart I really hate to brake it to you but the European countries that don't force you to pay have limited services given. Maybe when you get older or injured in a non generic way you can test these systems out and see how awfull they can be. They always run short on budgets and even in countries like england and france they have options to pay for better services.

As for my economic theory, here's the aid we give to european countries https://www.securityassistance.org/programs?page=2. throw in the middle east and africa and there is a couple trillion were using to pay for the worlds problembs. Laughable, I mean in the sick twisted we could cut this for a year and solve our deficit way you bet it is.

They're also repeating the false statement that the CDC got defunded, Trump proposed it, but was never approved by congress. Meanwhile all the democrats support less immigration controls, making pandemic spread much easier

Michael Bloomberg won't shut up about how Trump cut funding. I think the ad is annoying and misleading and unfortunately that ad keeps showing up at almost every commercial break.

The American system is probably the least prepared out of all of the western countries. The insurance bureaucracy and high cost of going to the doctor + the lack of safety nets means people will work when sick because they have to and not go to the doctor.

I can see the coronavirus forcing a shift in the view on healthcare. Eisenhour's ww2 experience was the basis for his belief in investing in infrastructure and Teddy had the panama canal built based on Mahan's naval theories.

Public healthcare reduces the costs and gets more people to go to the doctor.

I'm like fifty pages behind, trying to catch up but I wanted to check this out. It's been a month, wanted to see if any new satellite images of Wuhan/China have been released, but I guess I'm too stupid to know where to look. So instead, I decided to check the air pollution stats.

Well that doesn't look bad. If it's in the green/high yellows, guess the air quality's going up.

What's all of China looking like?

:story: They're fucked.

That's a lot of burnt corpses, man...

Also reminder that Xi is saying no new contagion is happening and the factories will reopen.

Knowing their precedent I'mma go with *existing*. That seems the only thing they really hate about the guy.

Which is a crock because that budget cut didn't make it through Congress (Yet) and it's all stuff that's included in the 2021 budget, it has nothing to do with the current or former budgets. The funding for the CDC and NIH has actually increased because Trump tried to take a hatchet to it and they cranked up their budgets in response. Welcome to checks and balances with a touch of Orange Man Bad.

Even Snopes is calling this one out as misinformation.

Here's an article from ABC News about Michael Bloomberg using the Coronavirus to get votes.

His campaign released a public health emergency preparedness plan on Wednesday, and began airing ads on television in all 50 states and online knocking Trump's response to the coronavirus.

MORE: Democratic debate reveals Bloomberg as main foil but Sanders as main threat: ANALYSIS
"Managing a crisis is what Mike Bloomberg does," the narrator reads in the 30-second spot.

“Health experts warn the U.S. is underprepared. Managing a crisis is what Mike Bloomberg does. In the aftermath of 9/11, he steadied and rebuilt America’s largest city, oversaw emergency response to natural disasters, upgraded hospital preparedness to manage health crises, and he’s funding cutting edge research to contain epidemics.”
— Bloomberg campaign ad

And here's the ad:

This is the lowest thing I've seen him do. The fact that he's using this to get votes just pisses me off.
