I live in a mid-south state in the largest populated area, and it was business as usual today at our local big box store, with the exception of the hand sanitizer being out along with one brand of liquid soap, although there were two other brands available. Also have reliable info that at least one hospital is confident in their preparedness for the Wu Flu. Source wasn't downplaying the virus or overplaying their procedures; source is 100% trustworthy.

yes because if China goes completely down were looking at a lot of shortages while we play catch up.
I did prepping 2-3 days ago. The bagger lady mockingly asked if I was buying a bunch of canned food because of coronavirus. I should have warned her she was about to see a lot more of that.
I tried to buy a good mix of frozen and shelf stable things, ones that need cooking and ones that don't, and only stuff we already eat. I bought a lot of that canned corned beef hash because we already eat it, so why not stock up?
I also liked someone's suggestion to stock up on cat food, so I did that. I'm also a vape fag and my favorite vape cartridges haven't been in stock for the last week. The lady at the convenience store finally told me that it's because of supply issues from the virus as some components are made in China. So I found a place online and bought a shitton of them, because who knows when they will be back in stock now?
Even if nothing happens I don't have to go shop for awhile. The area I live in (which now has coronavirus cases) also is at risk for earthquakes so I should have done this a long time ago. I just really hate buying a lot of stuff at once.

P100's. But for most people personal space and proper hygene is going to be far more effective than masks. The n95's are about 80% effective. And if you are in open space, such as shopping, are likely more than enough, and are probably overkill. If you are working closely in close contact with others is when the mask kicks in. If you have a 3m painters mask you can get the P100 cartridges for it. But you will look a bit odd wandering Walmart.
I feel for you. This is a particularly virulent and nasty flu like disease. This is the recommendations your doctors give you about flu season amped up. limit your social gatherings to avoid crowds. Do wear a mask when you go out. Wash hands frequently. And keep your living and work spaces clean and disinfected. Keep in touch with your Doctors. Get their advise But as much as possible try not to go to healthcare centers for routine or trivial matters. Dr's waiting rooms and ER's will be your greatest risk vector. Be alert and know your risks. But don't panic or despair. Just take appropriate precautions.

The press conference did not feel like an address to its people. It felt like a cry for stonks to the point it was actually disgusting. The bit where he said about Starbucks being open again in China was gross. I am not in the Orange man bad camp but he has royally fucked any chance he has of a win this election.

Welp I now got 25 pounds of rice, 5 pounds of brown sugar, 20 pounds of flour, 8 pounds of butter. 4 gallons of canola oil, 12 pounds of cheese, two big things of peanut butter, a tub of protein powder, 8 pounds of pasta and a couple bug cans of crushed tomatoes. Gonna get the potatoes, onions and beans tomorrow. Costco sucks for produce.

I ordered some food online to pickup at Target. The store brand canned pears were all out of stock and honestly it's the only canned fruit I can stand. I had no idea you could buy buckets of 30 day emergency food rations through target and their stock is running low atm.

I don't like Trump as a person. I think he takes the wrong moments to lash out a lot of the times. As a president? Different story. I don't think hating a person and liking their presidency is contradictory.
But I don't think this is the death knell of his reelection.
Back on point. Right now I have a panicky boomer relative that is sending mass Facebook messages featuring people thinking Lysol knew about this brand new coronavirus in advance! Couldn't tell them that we've known about the virus class for decades.

Same at work today. People kept asking me if we had any hand sanitizer but it just keeps flying off the shelves. Paracetamol, cold medicine etc is going quickly and overall the shop's just been really busy these past few days. I've been quite dismissive until this point and will probably make some more purchases tomorrow.
I have a relative who has a compromised immune system and recently I've been experiencing health issues of my own. This is not ideal.
