They'll cower into a corner and delete it, thinking the shitstorm will go away and that they can get back to doing their thing. In some cases people will even quit scenes over this.

I wonder if the trans aspect was lifted from the Bradley/Chelsea Manning shitstorm and legal case. The campaign for them managed to hammer home the fact that they were trans and being denied HRT in prison which was a human rights violation. The difference is they weren't a fucking pedophile and they leaked government documents, winning them support from plenty of groups online (though not as many as Edward Snowden would get later.) Once Chelsea got out of prison, they networked hard with Rat King Twitter users and became a "trans rights" icon to stay in the limelight.

Also Sisk dug their own hole. Sisk took a guilty plea which meant that they're now an unemployable, on the registry NEET for life. Sisk didn't help investigations of the other people involved either which hurt their case hard most likely.

To add to this, this mindset is pretty common in the furry fandom and was even before the trans craze. Furry lifestylers and otherkin were variations of this as "on all levels except physical" became one of the defining memes of the 2010s. The furry fandom revolves around escapism and as such furries will see their fursonas as literally them. This mindset is also common in the trans community where bitmoji/picrew icons and ideal anime girl versions of themselves are common.

It's why furries will piss away so much of their money on art. They need art to live out their lives as a fictional character, but not too many of them can draw. It's also why they're like Sonic fans on DeviantArt when they receive criticism of their fursona. Their fursona isn't a cute mascot, it's literally them and represents their true selves.
