Kinda. Doug did what Doug does on all his "big think" takes, which is waffle and not take much of a real stand. He's said he enjoyed all of them before, and his criticisms, shitty as they are, are more about him justifying his love of Spider-Man 3 ("It's just as good as the other two guiz, they're all flawed) and the Amazing Spider-Man movies (which most people fucking hate for being dumpster fires) than him actually disliking the first two Raimi movies.

And a character demonstrating a previously unseen side isn't always dimension. Sometimes it's derailment. See Daenerys Targaryen going from zero to thrill killer mass murdering psychopath at the end of Game of Thrones for no reason, which coincidentally Robert likes and defended, and not just as an artistic choice.
