Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Update on the case in Tennessee
Tennessee has decided to close Williamson county schools on March 6 and March 9 in order to disinfect. I’m assuming that means either the infected man works in the school or has kids that attended school after he came home and exposed them to the Wu Flu. However, that’s just my speculation. Additionally, the infected man had traveled to Boston, MA. He had direct flight from Logan International Airport to Nashville International Airport.

China’s numbers are bullshit. Epidemiological studies indicated that the number of infected were over 1 million by the 12th of last month, and China was only detecting 5% of all infections. That means that by the 12th of February, as many as 100,000 to 200,000 people had swarmed Wuhan’s hospitals complaining of serious symptoms.

Barron’s published an article indicating the r-squared of China’s data was 0.99. Very low variation in the data. That means a spreadsheet formula generated it. They undercounted the number of infected and dead severely. My own estimates were somewhere in the ballpark of 1 to 2 million infected, and 50k to 300k dead.

Wuhan is a fucking war zone.
But that guy with the R^2=0.99 has to re-fit the data and change the sample set every few days to keep getting values like that. Why fake it with an equation if you have to change it that often? Extrapolating his old equations into the present gets mismatches around 4%.

SanFran "expert" foresight in a nutshell:
SF Mayor London Breed: "Wee liek totes soopur reddy, u guize! Corona-chan dun got shit on our street-shitters!"
SF RN union: "We're not fucking ready, we're understaffed, OH GOD HELP US."
SF Mayor Stupid Fucking Bitch: "Wee bin plannin foar weekz u guize!"
SF RN union: "The fucking hobos are going to get us all killed and so are you, stupid bitch. Say goodbye to the nearby medical facilities that just closed down and say 'hello' to all of their plebs who will flood us in stead."

Meanwhile, a goddamned school teacher at Moonpark Ave was just tested positive. Tie down your lawn furniture motherfuckers, the hurricane just made proper landfall. Yee-haw.

Sounds like China didn't use maths to do it and simply put in a number in a spreadsheet and said "That won't get me shot" before publishing it.

Sorry if I'm behind and this is already posted, just came across a nurse reading a statement critical of the CDC's procedures for testing. Not painting a pretty picture at all, I hope heads roll at the CDC (yeah right).

Lol these stupid faggots are still at it pushing that nonsense? I pointed out that it was nonsense immediately after some retard posted that crap here, when it was several percentage points out the first day of actual predictions.

Are they even still using the same number of factors they were originally?

They say that the S type is older, less infectious and less deadly. That means the L type is a newer mutation. Fine, but I don't see how you can take that piece of info and then leap to "China saw more of the nasty L type in their testing and glorious Chinese quarantine is perfect, which means they prevented L type from leaving Wuhan." I think the good Doctor is letting a nice-sounding story take over the facts.

The distinction is pointless, regardless.

What happened, I think, is that Chinese scientists came up with this as propaganda to describe why the CFR in Wuhan was so bad compared to everywhere else.

CNA is an activist organization that has been making waves about corona virus for more than a month. They are one of the biggest lobbying organizations in the state and are constantly bitching about something.

Anything they have to say, consider it propaganda until you can find supporting facts elsewhere.

Socialized medicine at its finest.

An Arizona and Colorado representatives voted against coronavirus funding (it still passed).
Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona said Thursday he voted against Congress’ $8.3 billion emergency coronavirus package because the plan became politicized and bloated.

Biggs and Ken Buck, a Republican from Colorado, were the only no votes in the House; 415 colleagues voted yes Wednesday.

The bill, “isn’t designed to address the immediate needs,” Biggs told KTAR News 92.3 FM and “is not straight up for coronavirus.”

In a statement issued after the vote, Biggs called the bill “bloated” and “larded-up.”

The Senate passed the bill Thursday by a 96-1 vote and sent it to President Donald Trump’s desk, with only Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., joining Biggs and Buck in opposition.

The White House asked for $2.5 billion to spend on a plan to deal with the global virus that has now caused the death of more than 10 in the U.S.

“… We could have given them the $2.5 billion last week when (Democrats) asked for it,” Biggs told KTAR News. “And if they needed additional funding or money we could have voted on it.”

The legislation would provide federal public health agencies money for vaccine development, tests, and potential treatments, including $300 million to deliver such drugs to those who need it.

The federal Health and Human Services department pledged $500,000 to Arizona’s effort to fight the outbreak.

The state has had two cases of the virus – one confirmed and the other a confirmed presumptive case. Both patients have been in Maricopa County.

More than $2 billion would go to help federal, state and local governments prepare for and respond to the coronavirus threat.

An additional $1.3 billion would be used to help fight the virus overseas.

“They don’t need $8.3 billion … they will not be able to spend the $2.5 billion even within the next six months,” Biggs said.

The second-term congressman from Gilbert added that there was no plan to pay for the proposal.

The Trump administration, Biggs said, “had a plan and we knew where we were getting the money from out multi-trillon dollar budget.”

Lawmakers are briefed by experts daily, he said.

“Believe me, I’m in a coronavirus hearing now.”

Biggs said elected officials were taking the virus threat seriously, but tripling the budget didn’t have to happen.

“Basically, they throw a bunch of money at it to say, ‘We’ve taken care of it.'”

North Korea’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) recently sent an official complaint to Chinese authorities criticizing their complacency in policing the Sino-North Korean border and even threatened the use of weapons to control movement in the region, Daily NK has learned.

“The Ministry of State Security sent what essentially amounted to a complaint against the Chinese to the Chinese border guard,” a military source told Daily NK on Monday. “The complaint demanded that China must better control the activities of its people in the border region, particularly in the Yalu River region.”

The complaint comes after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called on officials to take “special measures on disease control” at an expanded meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK)’s Politburo on Friday.

“Our preventive measures are about more than prevention. They are key to our national project of protecting our people, and the responsibility of the Central Committee of the Party,” Kim said during the meeting. “All must adhere strictly to the decisions and directions of the Party center, and focus all energies on the safety of the nation and in protecting the lives of the people.”

CONCERN OVER COVID-19

The MSS sent the strongly-worded complaint to the Chinese border guard on Feb. 29 through customs offices and sentry points on bridgeheads in Ryanggang, North Pyongan, North Hamgyong and Chagang provinces. The gist of the complaint was the demand that the Chinese exert more control over the movement of Chinese people in the border region.

North Korean officials reportedly stressed in the complaint that the Chinese need to “ensure that Chinese people and animals do not interact with our [North Korean] people.” The complaint also emphasized the need for Chinese border patrol to put more effort into preventing smuggling and illegal crossings from occurring.

The complaint also mentioned the issue of Chinese people abandoning animal carcasses and allowing their livestock to graze near the border, and demanded that Chinese authorities take measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus through animals.

The emphasis placed on these issues is likely based on North Korea’s concern that COVID-19 originated from wild animals sold in markets in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus.

“We don’t have anyone wandering around on our side of the river, but the Chinese side often has people who bring their sheep or cows to drink from the Yalu River,” one source told the Daily NK. “North Korean authorities likely have received many complaints about this behavior and decided to send the official complaint in the hope of stopping it.”

“The complaint also reflects a concern held by the authorities that they can’t prevent the spread of the disease if Chinese people are wandering around freely near the river – particularly given the fact that there’s a high likelihood they could pass on the disease,” he added.

USE OF WEAPONS ON THE BORDER

The complaint also suggested that North Korean authorities could use weapons to control the border if the Chinese failed to control border violations, although it did emphasize that any issues arising on the border would be dealt with as “fairly as possible.”

During the expanded meeting on Friday, Kim Jong Un ordered that any and all measures must be taken to protect the country from the spread of COVID-19. North Korea’s threat to use weapons to control movement on the border most likely stems from Kim’s emphasis on “any and all measures.”

The mention of weapons is also likely aimed at directly criticizing the complacency Chinese authorities have shown in policing the border.

Daily NK sources that the Chinese responded to North Korea’s complaint by agreeing that “joint efforts are needed” to improve the situation; however, Chinese authorities made it clear that they are “absolutely opposed” to the use of weapons on the border.

“The Chinese will [respond to the North Koreans’ complaint] by quickly improving their policing of the border,” one source said.

“As both sides continue to communicate freely on how to improve border security, the Sino-North Korean border will be shut tight to any movement for the time being,” he added

Possibility of lockdown quarantines in densely populated cities and areas, places like San Francisco, much of Silicon Valley, central areas of Sacramento like downtown/midtown, east side, Oak Park and southeast, north side slums. If you live in Cowtip BFE you likely won't be locked down personally but if you have to go into a crowded central city you will find National Guard and You Shall Not Pass. Prep for a few weeks without stocked supermarkets, since corona is passed via touch (see below).

I just dont see quarantines. Maybe its because I've never seen it here but I really cant wrap my head around it happening here.

While it probably sucks to share a border with China, the way the complaint is worded like bickering roommates is pretty funny.

Officials are also setting up isolation units in trailers on public parking lots or other land. Up to eight trailers are currently being set up on a vacant lot of land in White Center, just outside Seattle. 'They are kind of like little mini-hotel rooms,' a King County official told KOMO News. 'They have two beds in each, and public health (officials) will determine if there's only going to be one person in each room.' The trailers will not initially have water or sewage so a portable restroom will be set up on site.

Washington State went full CCP with this.

Pussy faggot, just fucking call it a pandemic. Your pussyfooting around the issue is causing this.

Washington State went full CCP with this.
Who will go there?

Two more people being investigated in quarantine.

This guy wants to take on Corona Chan. Wish him luck.

A former Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine student has come up with a method he thinks could fight the virus. He said he wants to use a medication calls “Soloris,” which allows him to manipulate how the immune system works.

Corona Chan messed with the wrong rocket man.

AMD's Financial Analyst Day is going on right now. Hopefully there isn't much of a crowd. And Corona-chan isn't a big AMD fan.

How many American people here go to the doctor for every sniffle, vs go only when things don’t clear up? God knows I don’t. The last time I did go was when a cough didn’t clear up for two months, ended up wasting money on an xray to confirm I didn’t have pneumonia, and was told it was bronchitis and would eventually go away on its own. And in another two months it did.

I always laugh at the ads for the anti-virals that you have to take within 48 hrs of symptoms for it to be effective. Who the hell can tell the difference between a cold and the flu in the first 48 hours? A family member has had each person at their work take a day or two off this week due to some kind of crud going through. They’re home today. Maybe it was corona. Maybe it wasn’t. Since each has recovered uneventfully, none of them went to a doctor, they just spent the worst of it at home staying hydrated and eating soup.

Pretty sure from the way it’s popping up here and there it’s fully unleashed in the population. Unless someone is in a bad way it’s unlikely the sick will bother with a doctor visit.
I don't, but I know a ton of people who do, it's pretty common amongst Karen's and hypochondriacs, and with the added paranoia people are having I have a feeling that number will increase and people will go into ERs/urgent care/doctor's offices with common colds and end up contracting it that way in a sad bit of irony.

I wouldn't go to the doctor for anything non-essential right now. I just feel bad for people who are going to need the ER for non-corona reasons in the upcoming months. Imagine like, breaking your leg and you know the ER is full of infected patients but what can you do?

Also I'm confused about the "when to wear your masks" do you wear it if you are infected or to avoid infection? I'm hearing all sorts of shit every where and I don't know wtf is going on. I have my meme M3 P100 mask with me.

first thing is being aware it's not an immunity bubble shield. even if you wear a mask, touching a doorknob then rubbing your eyes makes it pretty pointless. also know how to wear it properly so it's actually tight and the filter can work (so no beard) and how to take it off. people have been posting the guides in this thread, but it's probably faster to look it up on the cdc or 3m sites directly.
and like I said the mask is only part of what you can do, washing hands and hygiene is even more important. lot of people aren't aware how "dirty" the stuff is they touch constantly and how they use their hands subconsciously. when it itches, you scratch. when there's a sandwich you grab it and eat it. most people don't think about it and do it out of reflex.
and since you probably aren't running around naked clothes are a factor too. doesn't mean you should burn everything before entering your home, but simply taking off the mask and washing your hands isn't necessarily enough (especially when you were in a higher risk area where wearing a respirator is necessary). can't remember how long a virus sticks around on clothes and if it was posted, but the more informed kiwis should know.

TLDR: read the manual, know the procedures, use common sense.

edit: The Arte-documentation in French (UT) touched on that subject. It felt very 1984-ish what they showed out of Beijing. If you loose your account, you seem to loose all accounts there (also for payments, transportation etc.). And for posting unwanted info your account can get terminated.

I think winston mentioned it in one of his videos. for example to get on weibu you have to be invited, and everyone only gets a limited amount of invites (I think by time), so they can also track who brought whom in (iirc, so I might be a bit off). chinese are also a lot more electronically integrated like payments and stuff to a level apple and google can only dream of. I think even doctor's appointments etc are now done this way.

so yeah, everything is tied to your phone, once you go offline you are quite fucked. and I think the video was a few years old, it's probably even worse by now with their whole social score thing.

The real impact of corona virus will not be medical, it will be economic

1%, 4%, even if you don't die it's not like business as usual where you can just make an appointment or buy stuff from a pharmacy. it's probably the worst time to get sick, even if it's not corona, so taking extra care isn't necessarily wrong.
and like I said before, even if the chance is minimal, why risk it? way too many people are already way too retarded with their "it will only affect everyone else, not me!", and that's not even considering that there's a good chance you'll drag it around with you before you even know it and transmit it, maybe even to people you care about and have a higher risk.

not saying anyone should go full end times bunker mode, but adjusting accordingly and being aware of the situation should be common sense at this point.

I think you're being sensitive.

kiwis have been triggered by less, and there are two threads if someone wants to sperg about trump. really no need to drag it in here.
