It is not just a flu. I spoke to a very reputable source (Downtown Los Angeles Pediatrician) who told me that this virus does indeed discriminate. My post is on an earlier page, (664) includes more details.
Basically it is an opportunistic infection that most of us can fight off, if we are currently free from disease, and have a history of being healthy.
This is not the case with the flu virus. The flu can get you really sick, but it behaves differenty in doing so.
If you have a pre-X like a heart condition, lung issues, poor kidney function, weakened immune system, etc., this virus can indeed kill you. It likes to "stick" to weak parts of you and overwhelm the immune system of the vulnerable.
Emerging data as well as knowledge from the SARS and MERS coronavirus outbreaks yield some clues as to why SARS-CoV-2 affects some people worse than others.

Another thing, is that there are dozens of corona viruses circulating. This particular one is very contagious and lethal to some people. Also, if anybody has watched Dr. G Medical Examiner, or casually read autopsy reports, that Y incision they make post-mortem .... can reveal a lot that the descedant was completely unaware of.
Of note are liver problems, heart defects, inflamed organs, abscesses, dirty lungs, heart disease, cancer, venerial disease ... just saying that a lot of people end up on the Medical Examiners table dead, due to the mix of a catastrophic event (ie. ordinarily survivable cocaine exposure) and a heart condition that they weren't aware of.
People under the age of 30 are very resilient, meaning their organism can usually compensate for its "silent" defects. (That become more apparent with age.) All I am saying is that nobody is completely "safe" unless they are absolutely certain about their perfect health. As in, have solid evidence, beyond going to the gym every day.
So please ... unless you know somebody's medical history inside and out, it is about as reckless to say "just a few drinks" as it is to say "just a flu."
