There is a horrifying ignorance about this virus. I just spoke to a guy I get supplies from for our business.

"Its not really worse than the flu", "Its population control ha ha!", "Quarantines wont happen here". and "It won't kill many people, not like the flu does!"

Some fundamentals of understanding what SARS-CoV-2 would dispel this ignorance quickly, but with attitudes like this, it really is no wonder why it is going to slam the United States hard.

He will be eating his words in 4 weeks from today. I bet him all the cash in my wallet of such.

Massachusetts reports 51 new cases of coronavirus, governor declares state of emergency

Amazing how Las Vegas which has tens of thousands of asian and european tourists at any time still only has one confirmed case.

12:46 p.m. Person in Sacramento County assisted living center tests positive: An individual at an assisted living facility in Sacramento County has tested positive for COVID-19, said Kim Nava, a spokeswoman for the county. Nava said health officials could not disclose more information, but The Chronicle obtained a letter sent out by Carlton Senior Living in Elk Grove that said a resident at the facility’s hospital tested positive for the virus. Carlton officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In the letter, officials said the facility planned to stop group activities and deliver meals to residents’ apartments. Also, guests will be asked to postpone visits. Health officials have said the coronavirus is especially dangerous for seniors and people with respiratory conditions.

Round. Two. FIGHT!

I haven't given you guys an update in a while, nothing that important happened since then. Here's everything that happened this week

So it looks like some of this is due to a sick King of Prussia doctor that kids came in contact with. Pretty bad if Cheltenham closed every school in their district. This is way too close to home for me.
King of Prussia? That's no bueno. I've been waiting for the names "Mall of America", King of Prussia", and "American Dream" to appear in this thread. And not with any anticipation, mind you.

The King of Prussia Mall is the second largest shopping venue in the United States. Buckle the fuck up...

Yeah! Let's totally lock down a country of 66 million people when our rate of infection and daily infection rate is far fucking lower than everyone else in Europe with a half decent sized outbreak! For 60 people in a city of 14 million, and an average of 30 across each major english region and six in a whole Home Nation!

Yeah, let's just stop the nation for a fucking month when the majority won't even see a fucking coronavirus patient even in its absolute worse case scenario!

'cause that won't panic the shit out of everyone at all. Nope! No siree!
Yes, yes, economy more important that people's lives, very good.
If we kill off all the boomers, this question will never be answered.

The anecdotal stories I've heard over the years about LSD as a last ditch vs the flu are from that era.
Intriguing, see a few stories from Reddit along those lines. I can definitely understand how someone could spend half a day completely out of it, feel better naturally, and attribute that to the LSD.

And of course there are people touting cannabis as a cure for the flu (and presumably this coronavirus too). Thanks potheads!

Yeah, I'm calling bullshit on this. If a more approximate number is given then there goes the Strip's business overnight.

There was a Canadian who came back from Vegas and has it. I don't think they ever actually followed up with if he'd come in contact with the one person diagnosed in Vegas but phew is it incredibly sus. They're about to have the conexpo, I think it actually started today, and somehow I imagine post that it's gonna get real bad there. There's no way a massive tourist hub like that is just gonna get out unscathed, unless there's credence to heat destroying the virus before it manages to get a foothold. Which might be possible as the guy whose from there and sick got it from Washington.

At least you can tell one another apart / your role by color. It's pretty smart to color code frankly. If everyone is wearing the same thing it could get very confusing.

My local Home Depot is sold out of regular bleach, Lysol wipes, and the cheaper brands of toilet paper, but they have a display up front with cleaning supplies. Same deal at Target. They have a display with lots of bottled water and cleaning supplies next to the "Get ready for summer!" sign. Interestingly enough, the local pediatric oncology clinic has not put up any signs about Coronavirus or changed any protocols, but they're already operating under flu precautions, and most of the parents are already dealing with immunocompromised kids, so I guess there's not much point in reminding everyone there to wash their hands.

NPR last night said it was a doctor at the Children's hospital of Philadelphia's specialty care and surgery center in King of Prussia. They're closing schools in Cheltenham and other school districts because the doctor came in contact with 11 kids. Who knows if any of them went to the mall though.

This would be alarming if it was a Disney Park that anybody goes to...
Disneyland Paris Staff Worker Tests Positive For Coronavirus
By JAMIE LOVETT - March 9, 2020 11:05 am EDT

A Disneyland Paris maintenance worker has tested positive for coronavirus according to a report from Reuters on Monday. Reuters cites a resort spokesperson as the source fo the confirmation. Management says the technician has not had contact with visitors to the resort. Nonetheless, the individual’s coworkers have been asked to remain in quarantine for the time being. Disneyland Paris remains open at the time of writing. The park sees 15 million visitors per year on average. According to the World Health Organization, the novel coronavirus has infected almost 107,000 people with COVID-19. Worldwide, 3,639 people have died from the disease.

This news follows reports that Disney Parks stateside are monitoring the spread fo the coronavirus on state and federal levels. Disneyland is located in California, which is now under a state of emergency. In Florida, Disney World placed extra sanitizing stations around the park the help fend off the spread of the disease. Disney is reminding its workforce to take precautions by frequently washing and sanitizing their hands.

Other Florida parks including Universal Studios and SeaWorld are also monitoring the situation. Legoland has restricted employee travel to high-risk countries and implemented “enhanced cleaning regimes” at the Winter Haven park.

“The health and safety of our guests and our staff is always our top priority and we will take all necessary precautions to ensure their continued welfare," said Merlin Entertainment spokeswoman Julie Estrada in a statement. "Like many businesses, we continue to monitor the situation closely and are in regular contact with local authorities so we may respond quickly to any developments.”

The spread of the COVID-19 has caused wide-scale disruption across the entertainment industry. WWE is monitoring the spread of the virus in Tampa Bay, Florida, the site of WrestleMania 36. Warner Bros. canceled the premiere of Superman: Red Son. Netflix is struggling to film Dwayne Johnson's new movie, Red Notice. Disney delayed the Chinese premiere of its live-action Mulan movie indefinitely. The Game Developers Conference canceled its 2020 event after a series of company pullouts. Emerald City Comic-Con has been canceled. London Book Fair was canceled. This year's SXSW was also canceled. The release of the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die was pushed back into November. Other films, including Marvel's Black Widow, seem poised to arrive in theaters unabated by the thread of the virus's spread.

Well that's kind of upsetting. Telling Trolls on the Internet to "DRINK COLORSAFE BLEACH!" just doesn't have the same flow to it.

Dutch town randomly tests 300 medical workers who didn't travel and weren't exposed to Corona patients. 10% test positive.
