The panic seems to be centered around things they think come from China. They, if I am reading this right, assumed their imported asswipe comes from China and not some papermill in Arkansas or wherever. Imports=China, because dumb.

Maybe the WHO has a point about deemphasizing the origins of the virus thing. It's causing people to hoard in strange unpredictable ways and fucking up distribution.

I bought a big box of oats and a bag of rice instead of other grain products because they're cheap, and they're easy to cook with nothing but water. Many other grain products are much more expensive (quinoa), taste gross without a lot of other stuff added (cornmeal), taste gross no matter what's added (millet), or can't be cooked on its own (flour).

We've reached the point of the crisis where we should stop asking 'how will I survive?' and instead ask 'how will I profit off of this?'. Chances are we will make it through this, unless there's a sudden spike in Coronachans deadliness and we all suddenly stop washing our hands we'll see the other side of this pandemic. But now we need to start figuring out how to exploit a financial market heading straight for a recession/possible depression. What people on Kiwifarm should do is to point NORMAL people to this site so they can get what is really going on so they can see and take action on how to deal with this virus. In this way our helpful information can spread more to the masses.

So that more people can avoid of being a statistic. Spread the word about our logical think tank so that more people can not only learn what is going on but give us their input on what is going on with them.

This is how we can win and be safe against any virus/illness/disaster/situation.

I know if i was ever in that empty of a flight i would get naked and try to bang the stewardesses or other passengers.

I looked up flights, and it was basically half price for most places i checked, and because a lot of that shit is run on algorithms i guarantee you it will only get better from here. Honestly i'm waiting to see how cheap cruises are, not to go on one, but just to see. the virgin one looks like a real life version of Avenue 5, but its prices haven't dropped yet, and its first voyages is in 2 weeks.

Baking powder biscuits and cornbread isn't that complicated to make nor do they require exotic ingredients. You can get them pretty easily right now. Empires have been built eating this stuff and there are all sorts of things you can do with it.

The flu vaccines available when H1N1 hit weren't effective against it, and it took a couple months before they could get them out to pharmacies. H1N1 also caused a big run on antivirals like Tamiflu, mostly due to media coverage of it.

There were definitely accusations that the whole thing was passed off as a pandemic to sell vaccines and antivirals. I don't really follow the WHO enough to know the veracity of these claims, but they were there. These accusations were used by antivax types to encourage people to take their side.

Walked into work today to find out we're now on lockdown, and so is every other long term care facility in the city. We dont have a case in my county yet, but there is multiple cases 1 county over. The only people allowed in and out of the facility are the employees, not even pharmacists are allowed to deliver meds in the building they have to be met at the door. I honestly question the effectiveness of this measure, but I think management is just trying to cover their asses. Of course family members sperged as soon as they were contacted "what do you mean I can't visit pappy, I haven't seen him in 6 months!!!". Joking aside though my boss told us if it comes to it, and it spreads in our community they're considering locking employees in for an undetermined amount of time.

I think people are stocking up on items which have good, long shelf lives and so they don't have to bother shopping again. It's silly panic buying.

Personally I have a meal of pasta and rice at least once a week. (Had one last night, in fact) so stocking up in my case makes total sense and I did so a few weeks ago. I've only just touched the huge 3kg bag of pasta I bought and it will probably last me several months rather than weeks or days.

The only real difference I've done is I bought some flour to make my own bread, but that was largely down to the fact I'm not eating enough bread these days, so again makes sense to me.

Also, people still calling for the whole nation to shut because of less than a thousand cases remain blithley idiotic. Not even a "muh economy" argument. It's just dumb and an unnecessary interruption to daily life that's pointless while its still such low increases in cases anyway.

As I mentioned elsewhere in thread, I have a compromised immune system and are generally not going out as much (normally I'd be out most days doing small errands, grabbing items etc) but "not going places" is just not an option for me as I have to visit the Hospital twice a month. Pillockshire's still seeing basically no cases and so I am not terrified despite the fact my underlying condition might mean I'm more susceptible to it killing me than the average bear.

Not sure how many states this goes for but EDD CA short-term disability insurance will pay out even for exposure to medically certified coronavirus, so for two weeks of paid staycation all you have to do is find a coronavirus haver, hold your breath for a minute, and then go see a doctor!

The correlate the results for cultural habits, social kissing, use of cash, propensity to lick shrines, hue of president etc. See if you can crack this thing.

It’s just how things spread when they’re novel. 33% rise a day, it’s the normal expansion curve of something spreading fast, or growing in culture, or whatever. It continues until everyone’s exposed or something stops or slows it. Compare the numbers in Japan - they don’t go up so high.

If it doesn't stop in a couple of days I'll go to a doctor. Or the ER might be better.

Do not, please, just pitch up. You need to find whatever number there is to call for suspected cases and call it. If you turn up at the ER or your doctor you’ll trigger procedures for everyone being exposed. Call first.

For a world running on UberEats, rice and dry pasta are still manageable. Water, heat, mix in one or two more ingredients.
