High Guardian Spice - Tumblr: The CalArt Anime

So I've done some research and apparently HGS is based on an obscure webcomic nobody has ever fucking read on Tumblr, and despite what the creators have said (that this is not the case), it absolutely is the case.

This is some outrageously good fail. I can't wait to watch this train jump the tracks.
Didn't Star vs start off as a web comic?

Uhhh what web comic? You just linked to Raye's blog, I dunno what web comic you're talking about.

Also Raye's 24-hour comic strip makes me snort because even though Raye identifies as male, she still draws herself looking like a girl and not just because of her art-style.

Link got truncated; I was trying to link her comic section, though it matters little: Raye baleeted the ones that were actually on her blog except for like two, so none of you are missing much. I'm not surprised by that, since the artist behind it is the same person behind this shit:

HEY GUYS.jpg

Fittingly, the ones that are still there are content-less filler that give us zero information about what the show is actually about.

Amidst all of that though we had some Dobbybear-style kvetching about how hard being an artist is paired with shit like this:

.....That apparently is the artist plunging into glorious rage over Everybody Loves Raymond.

Oh my God that is fucking amazing. What a little bitch, getting offended over something as literally inoffensive (yet easy to make fun of) as Everybody Loves Raymond. :story:

I don't know why but this comic makes me question so much.

1. Why are they still living with their parents?
2. What is your relationship with your parents when you have to sneak by them but live in their house?
3. If you're trying to avoid some show your parents are watching you don't sneak by you do your best to avoid it. You are waiting for something to piss you off so you can feel vindicated in hating your parents.
4. Their parents are against the trooning aren't they? or at the least not for hormone therapy right?
5. What is sexist about a son telling their mom that they don't see them as a woman?
6. How does she want the son to see the mom?
7. What's her relationship with her mother like?
8. How much incest porn does this fucker consume?
9. Will that fetish leak into high guardian spice?

This comic reeks of some rebellious teenager trying to find any reason to be upset with their parents. It also shows that when you get pissed off about banal things you tend to either reveal shit about yourself or create unintended implications.

My favorite part was they threw in literally two or three seconds of footage VERY briefly and put it next to stuff like 'Tower of God':

Like Jesus fucking Christ, why would you EVER give the people that made this any money whatsoever? Nobody is going to watch that shit except for faggot normies and they won't be signing up for Crunchyroll. Its so fucking perplexing why you'd give scum who can barely get shit off the ground over a shitty cal-arts imitation of anime than just getting another decent property to do.

To be expected: both are based out of Texas. Its the same in Canada and California; actors move between different studios to maximize the amount of work available. It was also the case in New York City back when it was a center of anime dubbing. However, its actually much less common in Texas; there are plenty of actors who primarily only work for Sentai over Funimation, and vice versa. This is because Funimation is based in the Dallas area (in a suburb called Flower Mound), while Sentai is based out of Houston.

That's pretty crazy. Hopefully Sentai doesn't get gobbled up by 'family friendly' fucking Sony Entertainment. Its why I only pay them, use Hulu and pirate everything else.

Some other Kiwi discovered that already but it's worth repeating: a Madoka Magica/Bee & Puppycat knockoff webcomic nobody was reading from Tumblr got greenlit for a full series. I can name at least ten webcomics with big followings AND look like anime that would draw in a crowd better than this.

What did Raye have to do to get this to happen? It's a Women in Animation production but Raye is a trans-man.What if he initially joined WiA as a woman and when she got the go-ahead to make her own show she went, "Surprise bitches, I'm a TRANSMAN! Make my cartoon or you're transphobic!" and they were stuck with HGS? Seems weird that something that boasts its diversity remained in the shadows even now that it's being released soon.

Didn't Star vs start off as a web comic?

No. Star used to be called Star AND the Forces of Evil, but it was always a cartoon pitch. Star and Marco were going to be sworn enemies too.

8. Judging by these designs on her blog tagged "yaoi", it could be a fair amount. The third and fourth designs look like brothers.

9. There's going to be gays everywhere in this show so I bet there will be either a tranny like her or a tacky drag queen.

Woman in Animation?

I have no qualms in taking advantage of something like that just so you know.

God damn, is this supposed to be the finished animation?

That is some 1st year student tweened animation shit right there. It’s like it’s been animated on 10s with absolutely no squash n’ stretch or smears. The girl flipping while shooting the bow is especially egregious.

Considering Raye's getting her breasts removed in about 15 days and has gone on about how several of the characters are trans, the question is not if, but when. Hindsight's gonna be a bitch when the trooning fad moves on, though. Definite lolcow potential there.

I'm seeing smears, but that's about all I see. Whole thing feels like the Koreans crapped it out in a day at best.

Of course, when actually compared to American cartoons these days, I'd say it's about on par with most Fox sitcoms and CN crap at best. Or maybe with something from a b-tier anime studio like Bridge or J.C Staff if we're being really generous here.

My favorite is that second one. The pink haired chick is moving at a linear rate making it look like that sword she's carrying has no weight to it. I also like how that sword in the foreground just kinda awkwardly moves around in place.

What still blows my mind about all of this shit is how they could fund almost literally any decent manga to anime adaptation, and even if it absolutely sucked, it would still likely gain more interest than this shit.
