Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I was sick for the last two-ish weeks and without doxing myself too much I'm in one of the regions hit hard by it. I basically had what I'd describe as a medium flu. (Emphasis on medium, captain trips this wasn't, and I'm male and not young) I never saw a doctor or went out in that time (mostly because I felt like shit and work didn't force me to, and I really didn't feel like spending hours in some waiting rooms admist this) so I guess I'll never know if Corona-chan visited me. Oops.

And Disneyland is now closed for two weeks because of Coronavirus concerns.

The last time I saw Disneyland close something down for that long was when one of the Disneyland workers got crushed to death on the America Sings attraction.

Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will close through the end of March amid concerns about the coronavirus outbreak and an executive order from the state regarding large gatherings at entertainment venues.
“While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month,” Disneyland said in a statement.

Disneyland resort hotels will remain open until Monday, March 16 to give visitors the opportunity to make travel arrangements. Downtown Disney will remain open.

“We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies,” Disneyland said in a statement. “Disney will continue to pay cast members during this time. Disneyland Resort will work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period. We anticipate heavy call volume over the next several days and appreciate guests’ patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries.”

An executive order from the California governor called on entertainment venues to cancel or postpone events.

“Disney made the right call in the interest of public health and agreed to shut down their California parks,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement. “Expect more announcements like this shortly.”

Disney has temporarily closed its theme parks in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo in response to the coronavirus update.

The Disneyland Paris resort remains open with extensive restrictions and precautions in place.

Disneyland Paris has indefinitely suspended parades, fireworks spectaculars and outdoor shows, according to WDW News Today. Capacity has been adjusted for some Disneyland Paris attractions and theater shows as well as in shops and restaurants to increase social distancing, according to WDWNT. Single-rider queues have been suspended to reduce exposure between groups and the Princess Pavilion has been closed to limit interactions between costumed employees and visitors, WDWNT reported.
Three Disneyland Paris employees have tested positive for coronavirus, according to media reports. The Disneyland Paris resort has two theme parks, six hotels and a shopping district.

Universal Studios is also closing.

The local Walmart is out of toilet paper, paper towels, and instant ramen. A bunch of things seem to be getting canceled as well. I live in a very low-risk zone, and people here are freaking out.
On the plus side, gas is now under $2 a gallon, so that’s nice.

Just returned from our local Walmart. No water or asswipe, very few paper towels. I went there for something else, anyway, which they had in stock.

I want to believe that even if everything turns out to be ok the scare will be enough to pop Americans heads out of their asses and be the end to the SJW era, since people will have realized that we have things pretty good and not to take things for granted by obsessing over petty bullshit.

Yeah, that's highly optimistic, I know.

To be honest, I'm less concerned about the virus and more about everything shutting down because of the virus. I recognize the safety measures and precautions that need to be taken behind this, but goddamn. All the news about places that define American culture being shut down is making everything seem really empty. The paranoia around this virus is a bit too much and I think the intention is to influence that within to make people scared. Even our own presidink has given into the whole paranoia approach.

Update: my community college (Mississippi) is closed until March 23.

We are actually on spring break this week.

Several schools in my native state are also preemptively closing for a while. We don't have a reported case yet but we are trying to get a headstart. It is currently the only southern state to not have a case.

Was just looking at the Brianna Wu thread, and it kinda made me wonder something. So far the death rate has been substantially higher in males. Trannies take a lot of hormones, and the gender death rate disparity seems to indicate that hormones do play a role in the severity of the symptoms. Kinda makes me wonder how this is going to impact trannies.
Trannicide?

Giving you an optimistic rating, because, yeah ... It is optimistic.

However, I'm with you on hoping that this wakes people up (but it probably won't, given the partisan reactions from the media and our representatives alone).

Le sigh.

I know that a lot of people are panicking at the headlines about Disneyland shutting down for two weeks.

Here's some perspective to get people to calm down a little bit:

Park attendance has probably been abysmal over the past week. It would be probably far more expensive for Disney to keep things up and running for such a low attendance than it would be to just shut it down for a while.

Is COVID-19 bad enough to the point where Disneyland has shut down? Yes. Does this mark the absolute end of times? No. This is a business decision on Disney's part where they chose the option that will cost them less money in the long run.

EDIT: Disney World and Disneyland Paris have closed until the end of the month as well. My point still stands.

Aren't hazmat suits like giant condoms?

They could design one that is see through, with a slit between the legs ... that would enable them and others to take care of urgent needs, in a sanitary manner.

Gah, stop reminding me of furry latex suit comics, where the slit between the legs is another piece of the suit that goes up and inside their orifaces.

American culture has basically been flash frozen in November 9th 2016 ever since, we needed some sort of shock to the system to shake things up and this might be it.
