Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Welp looks like someone in my apartment building came in contact with a person who tested positive for wu-flu and now they're showing symptoms too. It was enough for the building manager to order a cleaner to come in and sanitize the whole building. So that was fun.

Out of curiosity I went to the local walmart in a pretty low IQ area just to see what was disappearing from the shelves. As expected, zero hand sanitizer left, couple people in masks, no traditional brown and white rice left but plenty of Basmati rice (probably because most backwoods whites don't know wtf it is) dehydrated camping food was untouched but the soup aisle was pretty ravaged. Immediately stripped when I got home to shower and wash all my clothes. I'm more concerned about panic shopping and subsequent shortages do to quarantines than anything at this point.

Oh and fuck the lanky nig that spread the virus to god knows how many handyball players cause he's a dumb nig.

Now that things are finally starting to move with event cancellations in the US it feels pretty scary, but I have to keep reminding myself that these are the things I was hoping would happen a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks to this thread and the fact that I work(ed) with a factory in Wuhan, I knew what was coming and had plenty of time to prepare. Now that things are getting shut down it feels like the first time I weathered a hurricane. I've prepared but I have to stop and take a breath.

Funny how I have yet to see any news articles ending in (and that's a good thing) lately.

Can confirm, tried to pick up some last minute stuff today before the panic settled in here and there's barely any pet goods. No normal cat litter, not even hamster litter. (PSA hamster litter is great for cats and lasts longer please try it)
It's fucking annoying. Half these people here let their cats roam outside, the fuck you need that much cat litter for? Can you even expect an outdoor cat to stay inside for months?
I'm so glad I stocked up on cat food and litter 2 months ago. Guys, its all canned, it lasts for several years. 0 excuse to not have some extra laying around.

Went to discount grocery store this morning, and Costco around noon Pacific.

Discount grocery store normal, saw a couple people buying water, but still a good amount available. Plenty of ass-wipe.

Costco was rather busy, but had no problem finding a parking spot, getting everything I wanted (except a cherry pie), and getting out in less than 30 minutes. Saw people buying water and asswipe, among other things, but didn't see any purchases in panic amounts. Shelves overall a little depleted, but not bad. Didn't check out the water and asswipe. Don't buy them at Costco, anyway. Had a whole pallet of gloves on the sales floor, but it looked like nobody had purchased any. Did see some people buying three-packs Clorox bleach.

See MLB has cancelled the remaining spring training games and pushed start of season back two weeks. Oh, well. Don't care about the NBA or NHL, just MLB. Guess Pornhub will be a little busier.

Looking at the latest WuFlu scoreboard, worldwide up to 127,863 cases. Don't believe China's numbers at all. Subtract China's claimed nearly 81,000 cases and we get 46, 863. Of that number, 30,606 come from just three countries (Italy, Iran, South Korea). Believe Iran's numbers are higher than reported. That leaves 16, 247 for the rest of the world, six billion of us.

Watched President Trump's speech yesterday on YouTube. Have listened to a number of his speeches. The President normally comes across as confident, if not brash. But the tone of last evening's speech was businesslike and somewhat subdued. President Trump also looked tired, not his usual self, if you will.

He obviously knows something, probably a great deal, more than we do about this virus, but for some reason isn't sharing it. One reason may be to protect sources of intelligence. Another reason may well be to stave off panic.

But what I hear and what I am seeing these days don't match. Have never seen such a large number of disease-related closures, postponements, etc, in seven decades of life. These closures and postponements remind me of what must have happened during the Spanish Flu. Don't remember such a scale of closures/postponements, etc. during the swine flu. Not even sure there were this many closures/postponements during polio epidemics. And you don't see such closures/postponements in regard to the "regular" flu.

We are told the average person's chance of catching the virus is low, and most who come down with the virus recover. Yet, in my opinion the actions taken seem to fit a very virulent virus with a very high mortality rate. So far in the USA there have been just forty deaths, thirty of them in one state.

Something much more is going on here, something we aren't being told, in my opinion. Because right now the WuFlu numbers I see don't approach the hospitalizations/fatalities for the "regular" flu.

Believe the American people can handle the truth. Always have in the past. Understand the natural tendency of those in office, of any party, is to play down what's happening. Then we get a nasty surprise when we learn the actual magnitude of the problem.

So pay attention to what's being said, but pay more attention to what isn't being said.
I'm not going to lie, the past few days have pretty bonechilling. We've been seeing things that I'd never thought we would see - conventions being postponed in Vegas (which will cause a stifling effect on a town based on tourism,) the NCAA canceling tournaments with the NBA and NHL taking similar actions, and even Disney shutting down each disneyworld after a year where they had some mean losses. And yet the death tolls outside of Iran, S. Korea, China, and Italy have been far too small for this level of fear.

Even you've been having more and more trouble being a voice of reason here amidst all the chaos. There was even a partner for my company that was meeting new people, and he went out of his way to politely decline shaking anyone's hand due to the virus. He'd carpooled for fourteen hours with coworkers as he didn't want to risk flying.

Follow the money. Always, always, always follow the money. The market's seen what's happening, and the money is fleeing for the goddamned hills. If people haven't prepared for the truly big shocks, they're a month or so out from losing that chance.

Ohio health official estimates 100,000 people in state have coronavirus
A top health official in Ohio estimated on Thursday that more than 100,000 people in the state have coronavirus, a shockingly high number that underscores the limited testing so far.
Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton said at a press conference alongside Gov. Mike DeWine (R) that given that the virus is spreading in the community in Ohio, she estimates at least 1 percent of the population in the state has the virus.
"We know now, just the fact of community spread, says that at least 1 percent, at the very least, 1 percent of our population is carrying this virus in Ohio today," Acton said. "We have 11.7 million people. So the math is over 100,000. So that just gives you a sense of how this virus spreads and is spreading quickly."
She added that the slow rollout of testing means the state does not have good verified numbers to know for sure.
"Our delay in being able to test has delayed our understanding of the spread of this," Acton said.
The Trump administration has come under intense criticism for the slow rollout of tests. Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top National Institutes of Health official, acknowledged earlier Thursday it is "a failing" that people cannot easily get tested for coronavirus in the United States.
Not everyone with the virus has symptoms, and about 80 percent of people with the virus do not end up needing hospitalization, experts say. However, the virus can be deadly especially for older people and those with underlying health conditions.
The possible numbers in Ohio are a stark illustration of how many cases could be in other states as well, but have not been revealed given the lack of widespread testing.
More than 1,300 people in the U.S. have currently tested positive for the illness, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, while about three dozen people in the country have died.
Vice President Pence, who is overseeing the administration's coronavirus response, said earlier Thursday that the U.S. can expect "thousands of more cases."
Ohio officials said they are taking major actions to try to slow the spread of the virus. They are closing schools in the state for three weeks and banning large gatherings of 100 or more people.
The state currently has just five confirmed positive cases, and 30 negative tests. Acton said Thursday that it appears that the number of cases of the virus doubles every six days.
As other experts have as well, she urged actions to slow the spread of the virus to avoid overwhelming the capacity of hospitals. Banning large gatherings and stopping school is part of that process.
"We're all sort of waking up to our new reality," she said, adding later that the state is "in a crisis situation."
Noting the concerns about hospital capacity if the number of cases spikes too quickly, Acton said "there are only so many ventilators," referring to machines that allow people to breathe when they cannot on their own.
Models indicate the number of cases could peak in late April to mid-May, she said.
If people are not seriously ill, she urged them to stay home so that only the sickest people who most need help are showing up at hospitals.
"This will be the thing this generation remembers," she added.

I don't mean to fearmonger, but this is some terrifying shit if it's real. It would almost double the amount of known corona cases globally, although it's more then clear that foreign governments aren't telling the truth. This is just Ohio too, how many people are affected in the US, let alone globally?

There is also the genuine possibility that mass hysteria is setting in. Yes, this virus is a nasty motherfucker, yes there are still a lot of unknowns. But coronaviruses have been around for a long time, covid 19 will eventually settle down as people develop immunizes to it. This year is likely gonna suck, but ti wont be the end of times, especially as it seems, much like the flu, the vast majority of patients do not require treatment.

It's hard to forget with infection numbers being thrown around, but remember, in most places the only ones getting tested are the ones that require hospitalization. Most who are sick stay home and think nothing of it. Italy likely has hundreds of thousands of cases. When china had 4K cases, infectious disease specialists said there would likely have to be over a quarter million infected for the spread Corona had managed. Many suggested China was covering up numbers, and I agree with that, but at the same time its likely most in china did not need hospitalization.

The flu, when it first started appearing in humans, had a nasty habit of tearing holes in your lungs. That almost never happens anymore, because most human immune systems have adapted. They will adapt to Corona-chan as well, and it will simply become another strain of common coronaviruses nobody thinks twice about like 229E , NL63 , OC43 , and HKU1.

Tomorrow he's going to play the victim over the responses he gets. So predictable.

Apparently Justin's wife does indeed have the Wu Flu.

Fucking lol! I was just watching a Ukrainian news segment where the news anchor specifically referred to it as the "Chinese Corona Virus".

And here it comes. The year of spitefully wishing death on those you hate becoming not only mainstream, but POSSIBLE.

This election year owns. Owns. Ooooooowns.

Justin's fine though. He only ever gets physically close with men.
