Well, just tried to do a little grocery shopping. Normally, the middle of the day isn't busy. Today, everyone is out panic buying food now instead of just toilet paper.
I stocked some food, but not a lot. We have some frozen ground beef and canned food (corn, and chili), and plenty of rice.
Also at Walmart, they appeared to be keeping the toilet paper in the back, just inside the big entrance to the back and were handing it out to people one at a time. King Soopers had a sign outside about limiting water to one gallon I think, but inside I saw some spics loading up a cart with water. Pretty sure they didn't make it outside.
IT'S NOT IN THE WATER SUPPLY, STOP BUYING WATER YOU FUCKING MORONS. Guess what? It's also not in the meat supply so stop buying all the fucking meat.
My wife just checked Target, two Sprouts and a Whole Foods. No chicken, no potatoes (except Target had some sweet potatoes). I hope everyone that panic bought food gets infected and dies. Fucking faggots.
Edit - Sweet, Target brought out some more single potatoes as my wife was standing there so she got some.
So I work in retail (non-essential department store) and the store buys hand sanitizer for departments to keep at the registers. Apparently people have been coming in and refilling their own bottles from ours or just straight stealing the bottles.
For anyone who's curious our store has been progressively getting slower and slower the past 2 weeks. We're also getting a ton of rain right now, so the place is like a ghost town most of the day. I work on the online orders that come to the store and we normally get around 90-120 orders most days, but yesterday and today we only got 50-60.
So far the company's not closing stores or modifying hours except for like one store in Pennsylvania and that's only because the governor's shutting down everything there anyway.
A 10 fold increase since last Friday in the USA. Trump however fell short (as usual) on his steps which are far far too late. If you wont shut the airlines down, then they will carry the virus far and wide.
With no domestic quarantines place, I'd put the figure by Friday 20 March at about 10,000 with 40,000 assumed out there - if they actually do the tests.
50,000 by March 27th. I doubt it will get to this level before congress executes mandates for quarantine across the United States and testing becomes secondary to treating ill people. so the numbers get under-reported by coincidence rather than choice.
NYC will be at it's hospital capacity by and large by about 18 March and start to struggle.
USA oil demand will plummet either way by 27 March and $20 per barrel oil will be realistic. Junk Bond downgrades to occur between 16 March and 15 April causing a number of Junk Bond companies and brokers to go belly up and oil fields will reduce by 10%.
IF Russia and Saudi can keep the pressure on until 15 May, 30% of rigs will shut down in Texas with a vast number of bankruptcies.
By 27 March Congress will have to approve tax relief and credit AND payments to low income earners and a fight will ensue in Congress over what to do with the massive number of Contractors (we get 200,000 "new jobs" each month because most of them are actually just contractors re-signing or temps "re-hired").
Social unrest becomes prevalent by 15 April. Stocks hold at 18,000 on the Dow Jones and ETF traders go belly up. If there is no real quarantine by 15 April, then 300-500,000 deaths across the United States is all but assured by March 2021.
All of this could be avoided if we do real quarantines before 20 March. It is that simple. The WHO made it clear it is that simple. Governments don't want to do what must be done.
Wuflu panic shopping has been going on in my area for the last few days. The cops have had to break up some fights over toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Imagine these fights set to the Bandit Radio song.
I'm really not understanding the hysteria over this virus. Sure, it's new, but going by all that I've had to read on it at work it's only going to seriously affect people who weren't healthy to begin with. That's basically any virus out there. Also it greatly affects elderly people, again, something that viruses already do constantly. Is it just the novelty of it all?
Most people have recovered, most of the time the symptoms aren't horrendous unless left untreated (which, I think the mortality rate for part of China was due to hysteria causing too much of an influx of patients and making people who would otherwise have been fine dead), and it's spread similarly to flu/cold? All things we can easily work against without killing someone over toilet paper.
So, spain news after the first day of alarm. Gotta say, shit's going much smoother than it may seem due to our dumbfuck politicians. We still have no clue what the alarm state will be, and we're making all kinds of jokes about it. And that's the important part, seems people have taken these quarantine vacations to make jokes as much as possible and help each other locally and online, we're seeing the best of the country that's for sure so morale is at an all time high, hell I hadn't seen people this happy in ages. Healthcare professionals outside of Madrid are celebrating the hardest btw. Since family members have been restricted to 1 per patient to stop the theft the hospital is actually the calmest it's ever been, it's actually genuinely soothing even while preparing for a pandemic, that alone has taken a massive strain out of our system, and it seems patients are getting less entitled and comming less for dumb shit as they realize going to the hospital is probably a bad idea during these times, so yeah, hospitals are better than ever. Over in Madrid they are a bit panicky after La Paz collapsed for less than an hour but honestly that's also probably because as I said Madrid is more panicky. Also btw it's been confirmed reason that collapse even happened is because La Paz made arrangements thinking population would be going to hospitals equally and of course since they actually went to the nearest hospital and la paz is in the most high density area well shit got real, thankfully the plan to send patients to other hospitals has now been consolidated with a branch in case of temporary collapse so they don't fuck up this much again. Fucking kek. Yeah just assume people will magically know what hospitals are filling up first I'm sure telepathy will just work magically.
Catalonia has gone full "block access to everything, stop everyone, close the frontier" which I find fucking hilarious because, well as I said they're our version of Cali. And here we can see the difference in our cultures. As many of you mentioned going to american villages is an easy way to get shot, meanwhile my rural family members were just posting on wazzap they've gotten a buncha turists from Madrid in their village and they've spent the whole day sharing tales with them and invited them to family dinner. In burgerland Cali lets everyone in without checking, the government is surprisingly competent in times of need but the people keep sabotagging everything and going to villages gets you shot, in spain Catalonia sends everyone away, the government goes full retard while the general population is surprisingly competent at holding everything up and going to villages gets you a nice day of shared tales and good food. Seems crossing the ocean really changes things.
In general, the whole day has been memes and tales, supermarkets are running out of toilet paper and for some reason roticery chickens but the TP is being replenished fast, the chickens aren't, yes people are memeing it to hell and back and I love it. So I decided to share some with you and translate them so you can also have a nice day in these trying times. Nothing better than a smile to go with self isolation, eh?
But first a helpful hand. Here's an initiative to enjoy museums online so you don't need to leave home just to enjoy culture. The museum of El Prado has been reinforcing the platform for the ocasión, enjoy.

Unrelated to Corona-Chan here we got our National Center of Intelligence's new director pulling a Biden by having to be told where the mics are. In all seriousness she's likely not as senile as he is (seriously I kinda pity the guy he's clearly loosing it) but that was a nice gaffe and we sure as shit won't let it go.
Here we have an audio calling out all the dumbasses claiming to be or know doctors to cause panic, translation by me in spoiler:
Hi guys, I've just left my Urgency turn, I've been 36 hours here, this is exhausting I can't anymore. Of course I never saw this, there's patients on the floor, we don't have enough beds, it's terrifying. So I don't know what we're gonna do because on top of that it's expected that the number of infected will rise significantly and we're in La Paz that we can't anymore. On TV they don't say it but it's clear they're gonna close Madrid, 'cause police has come escorting ambulances and all that due to the urgency, saying that tomorrow they're gonna close everything. The police has also told us that they're invading Catalonia, they're gonna take advantage of the process to get in and kill everyone. They're doing a maneuver for, for that. And also I wanna say that if you see any symptom not said on TV you should also go to the hospital because there's being a lot of cases of Genital explosion, and they're saying nothing on it, and you can imagine going through the street and suddently one of your testicles explodes. So anyway I just wanted to thank you all for believing what I say, I'm a neurosurgeon, astronaut, civil guard and president of the government. Kisses.
I love how he managed to spew all that without chuckling. Bloody master right there. So let's change tracks by getting a meme from our Italian friends! I'm not translating this one, it's fucking italian not spanish, also you should get the memmo even without translation.
This next video is just a representation of what we'll have to do, as here culture is you gotta eat what you bought before it goes rotten:
Here we have a MASTER PREPPER in his natural habitat:
And this guy has finally starting tellecommuting!
These guys on the other hand just got their priority's straight: (Also, fun fact, by their choice in beer I can tell they're from Seville.)
Here we have someone planning their new house, with a room helpfully labelled "hoard of toilet paper."
I got some more but it's getting late so I'mma leave them for tomorrow.
Finally, memes aside, since I guess this thread is serving as an archive for my weird history of patriotism, here's my next rant.
I find it funny, really. You'd think when the alarm is declared and our government proves to be even dumber than we thought, that would be the point that breaks the spanish spirit. But no, my compatriots have mostly taking to organizing local aid groups, helping strangers, and memeing to hell and back, even if paranoia has left to a TP shortage, we'll be damned if we're letting our neighbor die due to fear. Hell the government has sent a plan to hire a fuckton of extra healthcare personnel and despite the fact they're basically gonna be thrown at the first lines people are answering in droves, we have more willing people than we're even able to pay, hell, some have taken to local groups to offer medical aid expecting nothing in return because they have no job but they have studies and they signed up to late to the government plan.
In most games like Hoi4, black seas, etc. you'll find spain is represented as having completely incompetent leadership yet being otherwise extremely strong, and by god, that's no stereotype, we are cursed with a political caste with no brains but were it not for them, this country would be a fucking paradise. I guess it runs in our culture. That's why we've always decentralized, it's not so much that our politicians are morons as it is that the country is an untammable bloody beast, that one italian king was right, we are ungovernable despite everything, too stubborn and diverse to be driven like any other country despite our willingness to cooperate. And this is nothing new. Even before aragon and castille, before the moors during the roman empire spain was in constant war as roman-loyal iberians fought roman-hating iberians for no good fucking reason other than political disagreement, even before that the phoenicians, first culture with written language to make contact with iberia, recorded just how fucking stubborn and self-hating iberians were, we've ALWAYS been this way, there was never a changing point, this is just who we are.
I have today been reminded of a song, which I think encapsulates this mentality perfectly, let me translate it for you:
The night falls, and with it the pain.
Your memory begins to burn,
my skin looses heat with the absence of yours.
My hope screams louder,
louder than the fear of loosing you,
I'm contempt with seeing you again.
Don't tell me it's love.
Don't tell me it's love.
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
My heart still loves you, my mind wants to flee.
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
In this boxing match for points,
filled with low blows and testosterone,
fighting to save what we have together,
while the kisses go to the audience.
Words of grey suit.
Bad tongues of metal.
Each month a vis a vis.
Each day Carnaval.
I can't hear your voice, there's no need to scream.
You beg me "don't be to hasty."
Don't tell me it's love.
Don't tell me it's love.
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
My heart still loves you, my mind wants to flee.
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
In this boxing match for points,
filled with low blows and testosterone,
fighting to save what we have together,
while the kisses go to the audience.
(Instrumental)
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
My heart still loves you, my mind wants to flee.
And the years go by, and we're still in the ring.
In this boxing match for points,
filled with low blows and testosterone,
fighting to save what we have together,
while the kisses go to the audience.
And even if we cross every day on the calendar,
as if it's a sentence to bear.
Fighting against you is the best thing that's ever happened to me.
You taught me so many things about myself,
than today I got courage, to come and ask you.
Will you accept me as your eternal rival?
I guess what I'm trying to say with this is, even if our culture is so different, even if you speak another language, even if we can barely tollerate each other. To all my fellow countrymen, be them our weird speaking neighbors in basque country, our panicky friends from Madrid, our our not so weird jews on catalonia… I love you all. We fight all the time and throw insults at each other, but if you need help, my door is always open for you, and I know that as much as you wanna pretend otherwise, if we needed help you'd also be there for us. Because in the end Spain wouldn't be the same if we weren't fighting each other all the time, and honestly, I think there's no country I'd have rather been born in. Thank you all for giving me faith every time we suffer a blow like this. It makes all the crap we go by every other day worth it. Stay beautiful, in your own, unique way.
And for everyone else, be it our tea drinking rivals in the north, our western peninsulamates, all our fellow sufferers in the mediterranean and balkans, all y'all outside of france and germany. We may not be in the same country or have the same bond, but same goes for you all. Being tied to you by the EU has been insuferable, but, you're still good people, it's the krauts and baguettes I can't stand, and hell even to those two, I wish our government hadn't closed our doors to you all, but, if you need something I can help with, from emotional support to information, I'll be more than glad to help. We're supposed to be allies and I for one won't forget that when it's our time to help. That's not how spain is supposed to work. I guess that's why Sanchez's cancellation o flights has angered so many of us so deeply. Spain knows what it is to be used and betrayed. But we're not supposed to be the ones doing the betraying. So far spain's always gone frontally and without reservation, we were never good at the whole scheeming thing, we may bitch and moan bout the EU's shit but you are supposed to do that when you can, not when your end of the bargain is called upon, Aznar fucked us over on the EU's end of the bargain, Sanchez broke our word. The second thing is much worse for us. Hell, look at our country, our economy's shit our emigration rates abhorrent our social issues blatant… If there's one thing we still had that was our word. I guess now we don't even have that. Thank you Sanchez, you'll be made to pay by loosing the next elections, that I can assure.
So I guess what I'm trying to say in the end is, Remember. Mental health IS health. And a little solidarity goes a long way. Treat yoself and your loved ones, and don't be afraid to help a stranger in need but don't also fall for the scam artists out there. Take care, have fun, and, in the words of pinkiepie:
When you're rife with devastation there's a simple explanation, you're a toymaker's creation trapped inside a crystal ball. And wichever way he tilts it, know that we must be resilient, we won't let them break our spirits as we sing our silly songs.
Is there yet any reason to believe cases of re-infection aren't extremely rare flukes? If enough people get infected, every once in awhile that's going to happen. Doesn't make it a standard feature to expect from the thing.
If you're looking for toilet paper; try more obscure stores. Most camping and hunting stores, big lots, and dollar tree and general had some in stock today.

"(FOX NEWS) -- Now that the number of new people infected with the coronavirus in China is slowing down, the country's Communist Party is ratcheting up threats against the West, with a particularly nasty warning about access to life-saving drugs aimed at the United States.
According to a report from Fox News, an article in Xinhua, the state-run media agency that's largely considered the mouthpiece of the party, Beijing bragged about its handling of COVID-19, a virus that originated in the city of Wuhan and has spread quickly around the world, killing nearly 5,000 people and infecting thousands more. The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into "the mighty sea of coronavirus."'
"In one way we think a great deal too much of the atomic bomb. “How are we to live in an atomic age?” I am tempted to reply: “Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat any night; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer, an age of syphilis, an age of paralysis, an age of air raids, an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents.”
In other words, do not let us begin by exaggerating the novelty of our situation. Believe me, dear sir or madam, you and all whom you love were already sentenced to death before the atomic bomb was invented: and quite a high percentage of us were going to die in unpleasant ways. We had, indeed, one very great advantage over our ancestors—anesthetics; but we have that still. It is perfectly ridiculous to go about whimpering and drawing long faces because the scientists have added one more chance of painful and premature death to a world which already bristled with such chances and in which death itself was not a chance at all, but a certainty.
This is the first point to be made: and the first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human things—praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts—not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds."
Turned out my workplace will be closed over the next two weeks. Not like we didn't see more tumbleweeds than customers throughout today's shift; a ton of students were leaving campus. At least this means more family time with mom.
Just spotted: giant ass bus with a driver wearing full-body PPE, visor and all. The cunts are dumping MORE infected here with us. The number of quarantined people now exceeds 10% of the entire base's population, including civilians. None or few of those people have toiletries and have actually been told by people running this mess to "try to order what you need from Amazon". I doubt they're being given adequate food if they don't even have the free shit normally in the facilities hosting them. If those people want to riot, I can't honestly find it in myself to blame them.
On a lighter note, spotted in the Visitor's Center parking lot is a food truck called "Hannibal's Food Catering". Fucking hell, what a time to be alive. Or dead.
The wailing of planes and beating of chopper blades is not letting up. Combined with the constant shrieking of the feral vagina goblins all fucking day with schools cancelled, I've got a migraine trying to start in my right temple every half hour. Not a single parent in sight, they just run around screaming.
I take it back actually; I blame them for landing themselves here in the first place. Who the fuck goes on a cruise after the Diseased Princess fiasco, much less with the same company? It's their own fault that they're in this mess and it's their fault that they're contaminating the base. I'm starting to low-key hope that their stay here ends in them either starving, dying of WuFlu or rioting and getting a hot lead shower from Security Forces. Just thinking about what they've done makes me genuinely mad on the internet. Between their stupid asses and the retarded military brass who never cared about containment, I'm probably going to die inside of two months.

Watching a bit of ESPN today, sports networks and radio stations are absolutely boned for the next few weeks/months. What they fuck do they talk about 24/7 when there is NO SPORTS? How many times can you opine on cancellations especially days and weeks after they happen? How many people want to hear the latest news about some players sitting at home who got tested positive?
She's in her late 50's but has been significantly healthy. We don't live in an affected area nor is infected (yet), but if push comes to shove, I'll just stay put in my dorm.
I posted a link yesterday to a Facebook group of people, some very well informed and educated, others not, who were looking for ways to DIY ventilation devices as well as other things that would be useful in a pandemic. Some of the posts were very interesting. For instance, there is a discussion going about a 1994 patent for allowing a single ventilator to be used for multiple patients.
It really interests me how many of these super old things are being floated in discussion; some very old medications, too. I swear I walked by someone talking about iron lungs yesterday.
In my country, the celebrity/extremely wealthy to normal person ratio of infected is such that I can only assume that the barn door has been open for a very long time
Speaking of resurrecting old therapies, I wonder if serotherapy has been considered? Does anyone here know anything about the subject?
